Why is Abhishek Bachchan underrated?

Q: Don’t you think Abhishek Bachchan is underrated, even though he has proved himself many times as an actor? - Rishi

A: Professionally, right from the very beginning of his career, Abhishek has had to carry the immensely huge burden of being the son of India’s greatest ever superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Unrealistically high expectations is probably the biggest reason why Abhishek is underrated.

The other big problem for Abhishek has always been that he has struggled somewhere in between. He could never attain the superstardom of Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor, nor was he as bad an actor as Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan or Tusshar Kapoor.

To his credit, even though most of his films have flopped, he hasn’t given up. He has stuck in there for 14 long years, delivering good performances in Yuva, Guru, Dostana and a few others. He was unlucky not to win the Best Actor award in 2007 for Guru.

Is he under-rated as an actor? We think so, yes. Will Abhishek ever be a bankable solo star? Nope, he has passed that stage and he knows it – which is why he is mostly seen in multi-starrers these days.

  • Abhishek is duly underrated. Just because he’s got a beautiful wife because of his surname, it doesn’tmean that you can put him in the league of Aamir, Salman, SRK, Hrithik, Akki, Ajay, Ranbir etc. Even Sonu Sood is way ahead of this guy in terms of skill, acting, looks, screen presence and dialogue deliveries.
This guy is even unable to utilize supports given by his father. On the other hand, Hrithik has managed to utilize his papa’s support and carved a niche for himself. @Romance.., as far as I remember, it was a mass hysteria at the time of Kaho Na Pyar Hai release.

  • If abhishek was the lead in dhoom 3 then also the movie would have crossed 200 cr… Aamir success thief… Stole a great opportunity from abhishek bachan… But still being the hero of dhoom 3 abhishek broke all records… How come he’s underrated… He is the biggest superstar(after SRK) of the country right now

  • I can’t vouch for what sort of an individual AB,jr is as a person apart from being an actor, but I do feel that he is underrated as an actor. He is a convincing enough actor portraying his characters. He is an attractive man (tall, dark, handsome, suave). He looks good in almost anything he wears. His father’s fame certainly is a factor that hinders his talent and popularity. He’d have to be extraordinarily spectacular in order to rise above his father’s talent, fame, fan base, etc. If he sees it that way, it could be discouraging. Is it possible that many of the films just don’t excite him enough to give it his all, or that in some cases the direction he is given is not in harmony with how he feels he should play it out? Could he be a bit complacent, feeling that no matter how good he acts or how good he looks, etc. — unless he does something really spectacular— he will not gain the recognition that he feels he deserves, and possibly would not even get it no matter how spectacular he is because of comparisons to his father and other actors? Well, there were a couple of movies of his that I did not like at all because the movies were dull and because I didn’t like the characters he played (a crazy man & a desert orphan helping people leave their country), but I watched them because it’s intriguing to watch his way of acting out the characters. However, many others of his movies I have enjoyed, especially the romance and comedies. It may be true, for now though, that he fares better in movies where he works with other actors that he’s partnered or teamed up with whose character or his popularity does not overshadow Ahbishek’s such as in the Doom series or where he worked with Shah Rukh Khan. As popular as SRK is, Ahbishek does not usually fall by the wayside working with him. SRK shines in his part and AB,jr. shines in his own part. In fact his whole demeanor is different. Is it their friendship? Is it that he’s actually excited about the film he’s working on? Is he receiving direction that he can appreciate better? I don’t know but I hope that he is able to shine as a person by his own merit in his personal life and that he does not allow being underrated as an actor to rob him of personal happiness and success.

  • I apologize for misspelling Abhishek’s name. I’m still earnestly trying to learn the proper spelling of Indian words and names but my mind and my fingers just couldn’t seem to cooperate together. Forgive please. Thank you.

  • What world we live in. An actor with 8 Filmfares and countless other awards, ruling since 3 decades, is called overrated by fools like R20.
@R20 Akki is rightly bashed by flop kumar, floppy etc. He is a hack who makes craps after craps like Joker, Boss.
King Khan has more talent and stardom in 1 strand of his hair than whole of Hrithik and Akshay.

  • Abhishek is third biggest star in 2000 to 2009 after srk and akshay
    Refujee- average
    Dus- average

    Dhoom2 – blockbuster
    Kank- hit

    Dostana- average
    Sarkar- semi hit
Bunty aur bubli – super hit

He delivered excellent performance in yuva, guru, bluff master, dostana, b&b and kank

log to mujh bichare ko Bakra kahte hai :D

  • @Indicine : First of all thank you for posting my quest :)
And for Abhi haters… he has proved his metal many a times… as previously mentoioned films like YUVA, GURU, KANK, BNB, SARKAR – SARKAR RAJ, DOSTANA, BLUFFMASTER DUS…. to do a film like refugee and to show such a maturity is not a small thing… again if u have forgotten 1 film names Mein Prem Ki Diwani Hu, HR was pathetic in that film… probably useles… whatever appreciation the fil received was only coz of Abhishek for his subtle acting :)

  • Bollywood has seen 3 LEGENDS who RULED it their respective generation:

    DILLIPJI
    BIGB
    KING SRK

actors from DILLIPJI lost to him at his time.dharmendra/jeetendra/rishi/vinod lost to BIGB.akshay/ajay/salman/amir/hr lost to KING SRK at their time.So these 3 LEGENDS RULED Bollywood at their own strength with out having any filmy background even though came from middle class family, really SALUTE to these LEGENDS.

however KING SRK has strongest contenders among these 3.Still HIS contenders and their fans have hopes one day they will overcome at the end of CAREER PERIOD,lol,So my advise to them-carry on as much as you can, lol.

@jolly,how funny but the real dialogue that modified by you is:

hoga tu kisi jungle ka sher
par duniya KING KHAN ko BADSHAH bulati hai.

  • There are 4 Bolywood legends:
    1.Dilip Kumar
    2.Amitabh Bacchan
    3.Salman Khan
    4.Aamir Khan

    According to stardom/popularity
    Salman>>Aamir>Big B>Dilip Kumar
These 4 are the legends bollywood will never forget.
    And just like jolly said,
srk:hoga tu kisi jungle ka sher,
log to mujh bichare ko Bakra kahte hai :D

  • Only 3 actors of Bollywood hve achieved superstardom Salman / SRK / Akshay…them rest r depending on other actors fans….After these 3 only ranbir cam achieve dis !!

  • @sunny chaachi you foolish joker fan of flop king gobar khiladi, aamir is miles ahead of your sadakchaap gobar non actor floppy kumar. PK $38 million in overseas alone+340 cr in china. even srk and salman are far behind him at the movement. who is your floppy in front of aamir’s stardom. talk with sense. your star is stardomless flop actor without any looks, talent, acting skills and fan following.
