‘Waiting’ is not for audience who watch or whistle at Salman – SRK films: Naseeruddin Shah

Acclaimed actor Naseeruddin Shah’s film ‘Waiting’ has been received positively by the critics, but the actor has said the film is not for those who watch or whistle at theatres screening Salman Khan or Shah Rukh Khan films.

“Audience, who whistle at or watch Salman and Shah Rukh Khan’s films, ‘Waiting’ is not for them. But, thankfully there is a set of audience, who enjoy or like such films” Shah said.

“It is a simple, sober, sweet and true film written and made by heart. I think no other formula than this can make a film successful. I believe this film will touch everyone’s heart” he added.

Shah also said that the audience wouldn’t enjoy the film if they watch it with 2000 people who are cheering for it.

“This film is not for single screen theatres. Its like there are few plays that are made only for small theatres, but some are for big theatres. If you will watch this film with 2000 people whistling, you will not enjoy it at all.”

“People, who are making films of this league have to accept the fact that they will never be as popular as typical commercial filmmakers. And if somebody wants major fame they should make that kind of movies” he said.

On his experience of working with new directors, Naseeruddin said he has had bad experiences working with veteran directors, but never with those making their debuts.

“I have never had bad experience in working with new directors. On the other hand, I had some really bad experiences with few veteran filmmakers. A new directors is working on his/her first film. They put their heart and soul in it. There is a fire to prove themselves. Their whole life is on the stake. The hard work by which the first film is made, I feel the second or third film doesn’t have that much in it. If you will see the track record of filmmakers be it Govind Nihalani, Ketan Mehta, Kundan Shah, their first film was their best” he said.

  • So u seriously mean Salman was a bigger star even before dabbang or 90s lol
Salman fans are trolling srk bcoj jungle book earned way more than Fan
If releasing one week apart and loosing is loosing a clash,, lets see those which salman lost
    1. 1992- Srk’s Chamatkar(Below Avg) Vs Sallu’s Jaagruti Disaster)
(Released one week apart,, Nasir was in carrer low)
    2. 2006- Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar(Disaster) vs Kabhie Alvida Naa Kehna(Hit in india,Atbb Overseas)
    3. Don vs Jaaneman (Same date)
    4. 2007-Marigold(All time disaster) vs Chak de India(Blockbuster)

  • Similarly some people may say overseas dont matter or Worldwide dont matter. But it matters,, Its after all that takes Bollywood to global platform and compete with Hollywood. So ours is biggest film industry
    DDLJ worldwide- 110 crore(domestic+Overseas)
    HAHK worldwide- 105 crore
Morever when DDLJ came,, kajol had only one hit in baazigar,, no stardom. DDLJ was not a solo release, It clashed with Yaaran which affected screen and theatres, In HAHK Madhuri had been a megastar already(Beta, Khalnayak, Saajan, Tezzab, Dil)
So srk was always ahead of salman throughout 90s.

  • Dudes u talk about acting
    Srks acting:
    1. MNIK
    2. Fan (Though movie was not that good)
    3. Don 2
    4. Darr
    5. Swadesh
    6. Chak de india
    7. Veer Zaara
the movies where srk has overacted is Chennai Express and Chahhat
Tell me one movie where salman has acted(barring Tere Naam), u may say Bajrangi Bhaaijaan,,, LOL though movie was claasic u would go rofl looking salman’s expression. Harshali and Nawaj totally overshadowed him

  • And when it comes to romantic genre u know who is THE KING OF ROMANCE.
Movies like ddlj, kkhh, khnk, VeerZaara Are landmarks of romace in cinema

  • lol, critics don’t forget single chance of talking rubbish about salman. they don’t know acting isn’t about experiments, it isn’t science.

  • Well watching with and without audience are two different things. I had watched housefull 2 with my family in theatre and surprisingly enjoyed it but when watched it on tv, most of the gags fell flat. I think masala movies are more enjoyable with audience(especially single screens) but watching alone on a laptop is unbearable. Classy movies are more enjoyable when watched alone, getting completely absorbed in the proceedings. These movies transports you to another world, keeps you totally hooked.

  • “Salman Fan” has gone ‘Bawra’. He is talking about ‘actor’ Lallu bhai who does ‘iconic roles’!!! ROFL. Not to mention his favourite propaganda against SRK, -‘stealing hollywood scripts’!! If SRK’s cult movies are copy of hollywood films then there is no original film in bollywood. But what to expect from south remakewala Lallu bhai fans!!

  • Naseeruddin Shah is a great actor but he has the knack of saying controversial and harsh things which doesnt look good.

  • @Anand:

List of People Naseer has bashed:
    -Amitabh
    -Srk
    -Aamir
    -Salman
    -Farhan
    -Raju Hirani
-Shabana Azmi (For defending Farhan during BMB)
    -Dharmendra (for Sholay)
    -Rakyesh Mehra (BMB)

…. List is unending. If this dude is so badly frustrated with commercial cinema, why did he let his son Vivan act in Happy New Year. Much hypocrisy??

  • Nasir sir we also wistile and claps for your movie like Welcome Back.

  • I just sat down and used just 15 minutes to recall all big stars and their acting capabilities and came out with an honest list removing favourism even towards my actors I hope you people will contribute and correct where I have gone wrong.

All time stars with acting they did in over half their total movies with nail biting and ovation performance and few to be named.

    Old generation
    Dilip Kumar
    Rajesh Khanna
    Amitabh Bhachan
    Raj kapoor
    Kamal Hassan
Dharmendra :( very underrated he did some very good movies in his time.)

NEWER GENERATION ; movies which the actors deserved standing ovation for stellar performance some were not so much successful @ box office but worth mentioning.
AAMIR KHAN . Lagaan, Sarfaroosh, Tzp, Hindustani, 3 idiots, Ghajni, RDB, MP Pk. Dil chahta hai,
SHAH RUKH KHAN . Daar Bazigaar, Anjaam, karan Arjun, Chak de india, Veer zara, Mnik, Fan, K3g, Swades RNBHD

Points to be noted. Some movies are not necessarily genre specific like Tzp, Lksha, rj hindstni, dch,K3g,bazigaar hddcs. In all those movies the actors intensive roles were 2nd to none. Masala Comedies omitted.

For me when it comes to Acting then this is my ranking.

  • @ JPM at 6:15 am : Nice comment. Agreed overall. And here we are discussing the rating of acting skills just to clarify.

Regarding old generation, I would break it down into two tiers. In the tier 1 of the old generation it would be following three only : Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Big B. Those three would come in my tier 1. Rajesh Khanna and Dharmendra I would place in tier 2 of old generation. They are quite good but for me not the same as Big B or Dilip Kumar.

In the middle generation for me it would be two tiered again. Kamal Hassan and Naseeruddin Shah in tier 1. They are way too versatile. And in tier 2 would be other names like Anil Kapoor, Sunny Deol and Mithun.

Regarding the new generation my ranking would almost be the same as yours with some variation:

    1. SRK, Ajay and Amir all three at 1st position with nothing to choose between them when it comes to acting skills. Each has his own strengths but overall in acting department all at par for me.

    2. Hrithik and Shahid

    3. Akshay Kumar

    4. Salman Khan (i know i will get a lot of dislikes for this one)

The above are actors of mainstream cinema. I would also like to separately specially mention awesome actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Irfan and Nawazuddin. They are doing great work. Very difficult to rate who is 1, 2 and 3 among them as all are superb.

In the future generation it is too early to call but as of now the ranking is:

    1. Ranveer and Ranbir. If Ranbir has delivered a Barfi and Rockstar then Ranveer too has delivered a Lootera and Bajirao Mastani. So as of now both are at par for me acting wise.

    2. Sushant. Again very early to call but he looks to be a fine actor.

    Varun and remaining others.

N.B. : These are my individual rankings and not meant to start any fan war. These rankings will obviously always vary from person to person.

  • @JPM

Wow been long I have seen some rankings of old middle young generation stars together… Phir be.. You tried.. Nice 1! Little variations from me too(just little dear).

    @ANK

Yeah well tailored mine can’t be far away from yours too.

    Old….

    Dilip Kumar
    Raj kapoor
Dev Anand… Many tend to forget this guy? Be it in a detective role, player boy, thief, comedy Dev Sahab was a treat to watch.

    Dishoom Dishoom generation.

    Rajesh Khanna
    Amitabh Bhachan
    Dharmendra

    Oye Oye.. Generation

    Kamal Hassan
    Naseerdeen Shah
    Anil kapoor
    Sunny Deol / Mithun Cvty
    Govinda

    Current Tinsel Town Generation

    SRK /Ajay
    Aamir khan
    Shahid / Hrithik
    Ranbir Kapoor
    Ranveer Singh.

    Critics
    Manoj Bajpayee
    Irfan khan
    Nawaz…
(tough separating Manoj from Irfan but I respect any ranking from others I won’t argue at all).

NB : Aamir khan any day his acting is 2nd to none. He is suppose to be up there no.1 with Srk Ajay, the only reason I placed him at 2nd spot is cos no one can argue the volume of experimental roles those two have done, their versatility is a case study for all, they have done almost every role you can think about. They are Risk takers anytime of their career even tomorrow. Aamir is in his comfort zones most times and acts when he wants too but when he does no one can deny him from his title Mr Perfectionist.

  • @ aisha : Your list looks to be the best and the most organized one out of the three with interesting titles like Oye Oye and Dishoom dishoom generation.

I forgot to mention Dev Anand but he deserves to be there. Have heard that just like the 3 Khans have dominated the industry for a long period once the same was done by the trio of Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand.

Have watched 2 Dilip Kumars movies and parts of some movies like Mashaal. Regarding Raj Kapoor, have watched only some parts of his movies. And Dev Anands I have watched only one movie “Guide” which was a great movie and some parts of his other movies. But yes all the three legends deserve to be in that list.

So cent percent agreed with your list.

  • @ANK

    Lol Thanks dear…yours too.

I havnt seen many though and usually not till the end I mean for the oldies. In my office there’s 4 different hindi movie channels… at home 6!! So it’s just to use the remote anytime I just wanna stay indoors ,alone I glance through them that’s how I noticed them though I try and finish any Rajesh khanna movie…like Kati pattang 2weeks back I had to make sure I finished it.. yaar hindi movies are just so special!!!

  • @ aisha : Can understand that. Have also heard that girls always liked Rajesh Khanna more (may be due to looks and his romantic style plus he was a great actor too) and guys liked Big B more (may be due to his angry young man image and intense and action based roles).

My elder brother (7 years older) used to be a huge fan of Big B and I was always a big SRK fan so we always used to fight who was better. During those fights I started watching Big B movies (watched all of them post 2000) and also started liking him. My elder brother still today has a full collection of Big B movies with him. Obviously everything is available on youtube now but he bought it long time back.

About Rajesh Khannas movies I have watched few like Bawarchi, Ittefaq, Anand (he was too good in it), Qudrat, Namak Haram and Amar Prem (again he was great). No doubt he was an amazing actor. Would like to watch more of his movies. But honestly like Big B more.

Regarding oldies me too watched those few scenes/parts on TV. Mashaal I watched in parts on TV. It looked very good. Karma I have watched in full and was superb. Shakti (of Dilip Kumar) I got to watch as it was a Big B movie.
