We begin the Indicine Awards 2009 with a few very talented people, some who promise to take Bollywood beyond typical formula movies. Check out the nominees and vote.
Ayan Mukherji (Wake Up Sid) – A director with a lot of confidence and enough skill to extract great performances out of his cast. Wake Up Sid was soulful, well-paced and very refreshing. Not much of a plot, yet its those wonderful moments that made the film, a great watch.
Anthony D’Souza (Blue) – 60 crores+ as its budget, stars like Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt and Lara Dutt.. What more can a director ask for, in his very first film? Anthony D’Souza had a dream debut, unfortunately, the film lacked much of a plot and overall was quite forgettable.
Indrajit Nattoji (Aagey Se Right) – Its the writer and not the director in Indarjit Nottoji, that is to be blamed for the failure of Aagey Se Right. The film was a non-starter at the box office.
Prem R Soni (Main Aur Mrs Khanna) – In one of the biggest disasters of the year, Prem Soni direction was too out-dated. He’s probably better off as a television director.
Prabhu Deva (Wanted) – Remaking his Tamil blockbuster Pokiri in Hindi with Salman Khan, Wanted was a runaway hit at the box office, re-establishing Salman Khan as one of the top stars in the country.
Rensil D’Silva (Kurbaan) – One of our picks for the Best Debut director of the year along with Ayan Mukerji and Zoya Akhtar, Rensil is a director to watch out for.
Zoya Akhtar (Luck By Chance) – Critically acclaimed, but didn’t get what it deserved at the box office. Zoya Akthar is one fab director. She has signed on Hrithik Roshan for her next Running With The Bull and we just can’t wait!
Sabbir Khan (Kambakkht Ishq) – Whose to be blamed if a 2 and a half hour long movie, seems longer than J.P Dutta’s 4 hour long LOC? The writers and the director of course. Torture had one more name in 2009, Kambakht Ishq.
Umesh Shukla (Dhoondte Reh Jaoge) – Not much to say here, Dhoondte Reh Jaoge was watchable only due to its casting.
Note – The original Pokiri was made in Telugu, written and directed by Puri Jagannadh. It was then remade with the same title in Tamil and was directed by Prabhu Deva.

My review::
1>Taali(sukhwinder,rahat ali khan,wajit,newman pinto)-not worth listening song.First song of album n this one is dissapointing 1.5/5
2>Surili Akhiyon Wale(Rahat fateh ali khan)-I m his fan n he donot dissapoint me.Its a superb song n english word sung by suzzene is also good. 4/5.It has another track on duet.it is also good
3>Salaam Aaya(roop kumar rathod,shreya ghosal)-This is another good song back to back .Lyrics are very good.All credit goes to gulzar sir.4/5
4>Meherbaniyan(Sonu nigam)-this one is quite different song if i have to compare to another song.It is commercial type of song.Sonu nigam is good but music doesn’t match but still it can be listen when u r in happy mood.3/5
5>Kanha”Thumri”(Rekha bharadwaj,shabab,toshi&Sharib):It is typical song of place like Gujarat or some like that place.I never prefer this type of song n it is decent song.2/5
6>Taali (Solo):Similar to first track taali but only difference is it is whole sung by sukhwinder .it is better than taali.Still it is ok type song.2/5
7>Spirit of veer(instrumental):Again ok type of just 58 sec.
Overall,Only impact from the album are Surili akhiyon wale on both track n salam aaya,both r best song of the album while Merbaniyan is time pass song .Except them,other r not gud song.Little dissapointed but overall ok because most of histrorical movie ,song r not important.
My overall rating will be 2.5-3/5(Just because of surili akhiyon wale n salam aaya).If you want to listen the gud song then just listen these two song.simply superb lyrics aswell as sing beautifully by singer.
It is not the best album of sajid wajid.Partner would be my first choice

My Vote for best directorial debut award is truly for “Prabhu Deva”, though the “Wanted” is remake of “Pokiri” but for any film until a director don’t gives his best the film doesn’t go well and here “Prabhu Deva” has given his whole efforts to make “Wanted” a successful movie. “Wanted” is the wonderfully directed movie, every director has his aim to make his film hit on the box-office but some of the directors can achieve this aim and “Prabhu Deva” is one of them. No one can be such confident about his/her film as much as “Prabhu Deva” was. Thus, he don’t made any extra promotion for his film or didn’t create and unnecessary controversies for his film, these are the qualities of a good director. On other side, my second vote will be to “Ayan Mukharjee” for “Wake Up Sid !”, it is also the nice and well directed movie and further more my last vote will be to “Zoya Akhtar” for “Luck By Chance”, she has done an incredible job by directing this film.
