Veer Box Office Updates

The trade had huge expectations from Veer and as of today, the Salman Khan starrer directed by Anil Sharma has managed to live upto it.

As we all know by now, business at multiplexes all over India was on the lower side (30-40%) right from Day 1 (Friday). Monday witnessed a further crash and the film has been rejected at the plexes. Collections down south are disastrous, business in two key centers in Karnataka – Bangalore and Mangalore – is way below expectations.

But what’s heartening is the fact that, the target audience of Veer, have taken to the film big time. Business at B and C centers in India is strong and the trending is pretty good.

Collections were strong on Friday, followed by a minor dip on Saturday, picked up again with Sunday recording the best collections for the weekend. Weekdays were always going to be crucial and the film has sustained well – Monday witnessed an expected dip in collections, but business on Republic day  (Tuesday) was record breaking, similar to the boost that Wanted received on its first Monday.

Below are the day to day collections of Veer

  1. Friday – 7 crores
  2. Saturday – 6 crores
  3. Sunday – 7.5 to 8 crores
  4. Monday – 3 crores
  5. Tuesday – 6.5 crores

5 day total – approx 31 crores.

Week 1 is expected to be somewhere between 34 – 36 crores.

What remains to be seen in the next few days

  • Can Veer sustain and match its Monday collections during the remaining two weekdays i.e today and tomorrow?
  • Will the release of Rann and Ishqiya affect its collections? Unlikely to, since both releases this week are targeted mainly at the multiplex audience.

  • With the release of Veer and the following continuous efforts to bring down the movie , one thing has been established without a doubt !!

SALMAN KHAN IS WITHOUT DOUBT THE BIGGEST SUPERSTAR OF THE COUNTRY

How many times in the recent past has something of this sort been witnessed in Indian Cinema –

A big budget movie with a lot of hype attached to it releases and the critics damn it…Every possible move and effort is made to bring down the movie and turn it into a flop….Media , news channels , critics , journalists , articles – all the means possible are used to pull down the movie……But the movie emerges a super success with a distributor profit of over 20 crores….

It is only and only Salman Khan’s mega stardom and unmatchable star power that pulled the masses to the theatres and turned Veer into a success…..

Which Superstar in Bollywood can still bring out his movie victorious when almost the entire entertainment industry is trying its best to bring it down ??? No one , except Salman Khan….

With all respect to them , Shahrukh Khan , Aamir Khan , Akshay Kumar , Hrithik Roshan etc need an error-free script , A grade director and producer , best music , numerous re-takes , enormous media support and full support of critics to make their movies hits……SALMAN KHAN just needs his star power and his fans , rest all aspects be damned…

Salman Khan has proved it , if not to anyone else , then atleast to me myself for sure….He is the biggest superstar of the country and the common mans favorite Superstar…..You can buy critics and ask them to write anything , you can use the media to insult the movie , you can own the multiplexes , BUT YOU CANNOT IMPOSE YOUR POLITICS ON THE SINGLE SCREENS…..YOU CANNOT BUY THE COMMON MANS OPINION….

THE MASSES AND THE COMMON MAN OF INDIA HAVE GIVEN THEIR VERDICT LOUD AND CLEAR :

SALMAN KHAN RULES THEIR HEARTS AND WILL CONTINUE TO RISE AND RISE DESPITE BEST EFFORTS TO BRING HIM

  • Salman’s next Release “Dabanng” is set for 10th sep..

May you guyz know this or not but its a bit information to all salman fans..

  • Adii! how much have u been paid by taran adarsh?
hmmm! i think a lot after receiving a lot of money you have gone mad coz you never seen a lot of money in your whole life.

  • Salman Khan is a person to be envied and sympathized with after the release of his epic Veer. The film has received some of the worst reviews imaginable, but still has managed to attract movie goers and box office revenue. Judging from all the reviews, and now the box office analysis, anyone might reasonably wonder whether or not media outlets in India are biased. The reviewers should pay attention to their readers’ comments, movie fans are not stupid.

Great new stars emerge like Lisa Lazarus, people rave about Salman in his latest role, record earnings for single screenings emerge, and still India’s main media outlets whine about how bad Salman and his film are doing. Why? Anyone can guess, but even Veer’s apparent successful monetization seems to be biased toward minimalising the films impact?

  • Azeem
no i think if srk can give mone to all critic s and news channel then salman can also give money to boi for wrong information.

  • The Justification of Being Right

Maybe all those news outlets have to justify their negative opinions in the first place? Now there is a novel idea. I have gone over the comments for some of these reviews, and for those which allow comments people are resoundingly positive about Salman Khan’s Veer. Here is one such comment, and I add some links to comments which illustrate my point here. Reviews are way out of balance with the reality in my view.

I am also a critic and after watching the movie my review would be the following.

“Salman Khan has finally done it , with the latest release of the spectacular movie veer. The fight cinematic are out of the world compared to many high budget movies of bollywood. Salman acting skills were also not behind any other star. Bombarded with the trend that Salman Khan is not a good actor by the media, is falsely proved by salman in this movie where his acting is admirable The movie is and looks like there been lot of money spent on it and the story takes an interesting twist as well ((spoilers)) . So do yourself and your family and if you can even take your dog to the cinema and enjoy this movie.”

when did akki bhai require support of press and critics to be successful?? he gave welcome, singh is king more than 70 crs net when everyone bashed it, and they were not from top banner house, sik was produced by vipul shah who found success only with akshay kumar.

  • well guys i am pretty sure how down market these ppl like raghu n rajib are……. using abusive language cn never prove u right….. its just an act symbolic of ur weak points…… i said that i am putting my point of view ….

  • indicine : dont u feel what i said was perfectly fine…… i m sure you will agree on it…… veer is nt good…. its out of curiousity that ppl r watching it … n the drop next week will elucidate this point as well….

  • Don’t be fooled by the trailers that portray Veer as just another medieval Indian sword-fighting film.

Salman Khan, pictured, playing the title role, delivers an excellent performance as a tender romantic, while also having a violent respect for family honour.

Veer is the son of a tribal leader in India in the late 19th century, torn between his love for the daughter of a Maharaja and his loyalty to his father, who has vowed vengeance against her father for betraying and wiping out huge numbers of his tribe.

His father Prithvi Singh (Mithun Chakraborthy) sends Veer and his younger brother Punya (Sohail Khan, as irritating as always) to study at an aristocratic school in London, so they can learn the divide and rule thinking of the British colonialists in India, in an attempt to defeat them at their own game.

But Veer returns home with blood on his hands after a spat with Indian royalty and a determination to win back his love, Princess Yashodara (Zarine Khan), and also avenge his tribe’s honour by killing her father, the Raja of Madhavgarh (Jackie Shroff). The huge canvas on which director Anil Sharma plays out this story adds to the entertainment value, as does some good music by Sajid Wajid set to Gulzar’s lyrics, although there are some inexplicable missing links, such as how Veer and Punya get back to India after slaying a lot of soldiers in public in London.

The climax also comes as an unpredictable surprise. Zarine Khan makes a good debut, with a remarkable resemblance to Salman’s current girlfriend, Katrina Kaif, especially in side profiles, even though Salman himself has strongly rejected this.

Veer is now showing simultaneously on all Bollywood circuits nationwide – CineCentre, Nu-Metro and Ster-Kinekor. – Fakir Hassen

  • Box Office: Veer heads out as a box office disaster!
    Wednesday, January 27, 2010

While some preposterous claims and figures are being advanced by associated groups in the trademedia about Veer having scored huge in various hard to seen ‘interior’ places, fact of the matter is the only likely havoc being created by this Salman Khan starrer’s performance at the box office is the panic amidst the distributors who have to be shocked looking at the actual crowds and collections across India.

Veer on Friday opened dismally (multiplexes) to average (single screens). How dismally has been reported already and can be verified by anyone visiting a multiplex nearby or calling/visiting a Chandan Cinema in Mumbai, a single screener, or an Alka cinema in Chindwara, MP to see what the percentage of occupancies actually are. As it so happened, even the single screens did not open well universally but rather in select pockets on Friday and there too the collections dropped by Monday, meaning just about everywhere the film is on its way out.

Even Tuesday’s, the Indian Republic Day holiday, which gave even duds like Salaam-E-Ishq a boost in 2007, couldn’t save it.

While actor Salman Khan tried to rally his fans to go to the theaters regardless of reviews or word of mouth, collections instead dropped from 20-25% opening on Friday to about 9-10% by Monday at most of the decisive stations.

The film can not even be safely termed a Lal Badshah or a Maa Tujhe Salaam, two flop films elsewhere which fared reasonably well in the northern interiors single screens.

But regardless of what is being said either way right now, in the end this Salman Khan-as-Brad Pitt fare will be out fast enough from the theaters to render any further box office discussion on it irrelevant by itself.

I dunno hw far it is true but someone did Quote IBOS yday so posted this article.

The article seems to me, has been written by MEGHA..;)

  • All critics demand money and other heroes, producers, directors pay them instead of salman the true gentleman the hero of poor and root level audience the man with golden heart the man which feels pain of poors the man which help to establish career of many people(Himesh.sajid wajid, katrina, zarine and lot of people) so any human with heart cant think bad about him.

Few black sheep which are similar to SRK(Hippocratic,Witty,Manipulator,Snake under the grass) just try to portray bad image of salman khan but they dont know salman is heart beat of people when they alive no one can throw this out of their heart.
