Update on Akshay Kumar’s Airlift

Akshay Kumar is gearing up for what could be the toughest film of his career so far. The superstar is working hard, not just to get into the skin of his character, but also to learn the arabic language.

A tutor has been visiting Akshay for the last three weeks and helping him get the diction perfectly right for the film.

Akshay’s dedication and hard work, has impressed Raj Menon, the director of Airlift – “Akshay always works very hard to get his roles perfect. His dedication is commendable and I know he will give the film his best.”

Airlift promises to be one of the biggest entertainers of 2016, a movie that is a edge-of-the-seat thriller. The story revolves around the biggest human evacuation in world history.  A rich and powerful businessman, Ranjit Katyal (Akshay Kumar), becomes the saviour for 1,70,000 Indians stranded in Kuwait for the Iraqi invasion. The lead character, who has never considered himself to be an Indian, has to speak in Arabic at certain points in the film.

‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ director Nikhil Advani, who is co-producing ‘Airlift’ went all out to praise Akshay

“Akshay is a perfectionist. The minute he found out he had a few dialogues in Arabic, he immediately started learning the language, so he could perfect the tonality and pronunciations of each word.”

Airlift releases in theatres during the Republic Day weekend next year. Unlike Baby, which was a fantastic film with limited appeal, Airlift promises to reach out to a larger section of the audience.

  • I am sure
Airlift will be the highest January earning movie, will beat Agneepath record

  • @rajnath, content means, the story and script combined. A movie which has a great story and a script that is complimented with good direction, will stand the test of time. Sometimes, without any superstars involved, it may start slowly at the box office, but people’s appreciation will start bringing in more collection as days pass.

A movie like PK or 3idiots could break records only because of the great concept (story idea) and script that spread the word among general public, and it sustained well in the 3rd and 4th week doing record breaking collections.

So, in the end Content is the King. A superstar can give you a good first weekend, but to sustain it in the long run, you need the content that is good and connects with people.

There are movies that may not make much sense but break records, but basically they are released on holidays with superstars involved and might have just hit the right chord with people, that it could break records – for eg., Chennai Express and Kick.

Holidays thus become very important, because if the content is not strong, it will work due to the star’s power and holiday factor. No wonder there is a big fight for festival dates, because you cannot have every movie with strong content and script, so it is better to grab whatever opportunity you have to recover the cost.
