Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who is riding high on the success of ‘Airlift’ and ‘Housefull 3’, has said the delay in release of the controversial ‘Udta Punjab’ will help his film.
With less than a week to go for the scheduled theatrical release of the Abhishek Chaubey directed film, there continues to be uncertainty over its release.
The makers are currently fighting it out in the court, after the Censor Board’s prescribed several cuts. The film fraternity has come out in support of the film and have held a press conference over freedom of expression.
While making it obvious that he wasn’t too comfortable answering questions from the media related to the film, Akshay said “I want Chunky Pandey sahab to give the answer to this question. His first film ‘Aag Hi Aag’ was made by Pahlaj ji (Nihalani).”
Chunky said “Pahlaj ji is my godfather in the film industry. Nowadays, numerous people call me related to him, I’m very proud of him. As far as ‘Udta Punjab’ is concerned, I haven’t seen the film but ‘udte toh tote hain, Punjab kaha se udta hai’ (It’s the parrots that fly, not Punjab). But I don’t know; I can’t tell anything about him”
The media, however, wanted Akshay to comment. After all, it’s his statement that’s ‘quote-worthy’.
The actor simply said “If it gets pushed ahead, it will be beneficial to us”
You have to give credit to Akshay that he gave an honest reply and not a diplomatic one.
@ANK, we were at the Press Con yesterday.. he was clearly uncomfortable and hesitant. But section of the media is relentless. They ask, till they get an answer. Most times, ask till they get an answer that they want to hear.

Wah, Maan Gaya! I think Akshay is behind the controversy in his connection with Pahlaj through Chunkey Pandey to sell HF3, one of the worst films of the decade. Sad that an excellent film in the level of Lootera getting delayed because of this houseful 3.
We want justice for Udta Punjab. Creativity should not die to some people and a bad censor board.
He was joking around..UP isn’t a commercial entertainer so it won’t have much impact on Housefull 3.
The way the article has been published it seems Akshay wants the movie to be postponed whereas he was a jovial mood in the press conference and laughed after making this statement.

@bollyboy : I dont think so. A diplomatic answer would have been that UP should release on time and we will be very happy that it will do well and both films can continue to do well blah blah blah. These are the typical responses u get when asked about movie clashes.
So for me he gave a very honest statement (whether his thinking is right or wrong is a separate matter) that UP moving ahead will benefit HF3. Such statements are not normally liked by people in general and many people will troll him which doesnt happen in diplomatic statements.
And obviously I dont support UP moving ahead.
