Now that the clash between Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale is confirmed, the battle for box office supremacy has begun. Shah Rukh Khan has planned a extravagant promotional strategy for his much-awaited film directed by Rohit Shetty. And given the power that he commands in the industry, the actor has booked most of the important theatres to showcase his Christmas release.
Eros, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the team behind Bajirao Mastani too are quietly confident of their film, which promises to be a modern day classic.
The trade, though, is anxious. When two big films clash at the box office, the more deserving film can sometimes be the film that suffers. For example, when Lagaan and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha released together in 2001, an all-time classic like Lagaan was the under-performer and the more commercial (and universally appealing) Gadar went on to be the biggest grosser in the history of Indian Cinema.
A trade expert who doesn’t want to be named, talks about Shah Rukh Khan using his clout to block book single-screen theatres across the country: They (Dilwale) have the clout. No one says no to Shah Rukh Khan. Remember when his Jab Tak Hai Jaan had clashed with Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar over Christmas in 2010? Ajay was left with little choice in terms of theatrical outlets.
Taran Adarsh: I don’t think Dilwale or Bajirao Mastani will shift from their December 18 release date. The respective producers are sticking to the release date. Bajirao Mastani has already commenced promotions, while the trailer of Dilwale will be attached to Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. In any case, the release of these two biggies is timed during the Christmas and New Year vacations and I genuinely feel, two good films can easily co-exist in today’s times. It’s a great period, with holidays aplenty, so why postpone?
Atul Mohan (Super Cinema Magazine): We have enough number of screens to accommodate both the films. Suggesting to anyone to bow out to make room for the other can appear to be a biased move. Agreed that the stakes are high but both the producers are strong and know the business more than we know. The point to be noted here is that 18 December is not a festive week, like Eid or Diwali. The business will be elevated in the following week when Christmas holidays begin. May the better and bigger film do big business.

how much can it collect
lets say its is received like ram leela
ram leela collected 110 crs
given a xmas release same movie could hav collected 150crs
the best part of ram leela was its music
it had a series of chartbusters lyk ram chahe leela, ishquan dhishquan, ang laga de , lahu mooh lag gaya and then two ultimate party , baraat and navraat no.s nagade sang dhol and tattad tattad
songs of bajirao are out and they are no match to ram leela’s album
also its teaser is not very well received
also the best period drama jodha akbar which had a much bigger cast of ash and hrithik(who then was at his best ) too was just a hit
so even if a movie as big and as good as jodha akbar is released, there is not a very huge chunk of audience for this genre
so even if bm is received lyk jodha akbar, then also ,all it is playing for is hit status
and given its budget and male lead who after aib roost has received a lot of -ve publicity, and is going thru a rough patch in his career ( both kill dill and ddd were flops) one can safely say that makers of bm are really acting like idiots by clashing their movie
also it is not clashing with any movie , it is clashing with srk starer or in better words its clashing with a srk starer directed by rohit shetty , or in more better words it is clashing with a rohit’s movie which brings back audience’s favorite on screen jodi of srk and kajol , or in best better words its clashing with srk’s home production movie directed by rohit shetty and its happens to star cast srk , kajol , varun dhawan , kriti sanon (and other huge comic actors).

but one thing is sure , bajirao will suffer some huge losses

As far as clash is concerned I feel that Dilwale will thrash BM…with clash 250 cr on cards for Dilwale with avg WOM..BM will struggle to cross 100 cr mark..lifetime would be 90-95cr…and if dilwale gets extremely positive response then 300 should not be difficult for Dilwale..
If you talk about the content, then there’s no doubt that a SLB film is always better than a Rohit Shetty ! But if you talk about stardom, then nobody can defeat King Khan at the box-office. Dilwale will easily win the clash !

Even I and few like minded fans had asked indicine the similar type of questions so many times but as usual indicine never even bothered to answer us and unfortunately I am sorry to say that it will wouldn’t reply to u as well (but I am hoping that at least after reading my comment they may try to give u some reply, they should be responsible & answerable to their users who send so much time, energy, effort and most importantly emotions in writing those comments).

Why are paying attention to this insignificant clash.Everybody knows BM won’t be able to collect even 1/3rd of Dilwale even it turns out to be a Jodhaa Akbar.Even in worst case scenario BM would collect way less than Dilwale.The clash is similar to Bang Bang and Haider.
@Rew1 What Indicine meant was Lagaan deserved more considering the applause it received and a clash with Gadar meant it couldn’t turn out to be a huge blockbuster which it would have turned out to be had it got a solo release
And I think I need to suggest you some Kindergarten schools where your parents need to enroll you because even those kids know the difference of 20 crores is huge and there’s no comparison between Lagaan clash and JTHJ clash because JTHJ earned way more than SOS both in India as well as overseas
