Trade talks about Bajirao Mastani vs Dilwale clash

Now that the clash between Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale is confirmed, the battle for box office supremacy has begun. Shah Rukh Khan has planned a extravagant promotional strategy for his much-awaited film directed by Rohit Shetty. And given the power that he commands in the industry, the actor has booked most of the important theatres to showcase his Christmas release.

Eros, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the team behind Bajirao Mastani too are quietly confident of their film, which promises to be a modern day classic.

The trade, though, is anxious. When two big films clash at the box office, the more deserving film can sometimes be the film that suffers. For example, when Lagaan and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha released together in 2001, an all-time classic like Lagaan was the under-performer and the more commercial (and universally appealing) Gadar went on to be the biggest grosser in the history of Indian Cinema.

A trade expert who doesn’t want to be named, talks about Shah Rukh Khan using his clout to block book single-screen theatres across the country: They (Dilwale) have the clout. No one says no to Shah Rukh Khan. Remember when his Jab Tak Hai Jaan had clashed with Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar over Christmas in 2010? Ajay was left with little choice in terms of theatrical outlets.

Taran Adarsh: I don’t think Dilwale or Bajirao Mastani will shift from their December 18 release date. The respective producers are sticking to the release date. Bajirao Mastani has already commenced promotions, while the trailer of Dilwale will be attached to Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. In any case, the release of these two biggies is timed during the Christmas and New Year vacations and I genuinely feel, two good films can easily co-exist in today’s times. It’s a great period, with holidays aplenty, so why postpone?

Atul Mohan (Super Cinema Magazine): We have enough number of screens to accommodate both the films. Suggesting to anyone to bow out to make room for the other can appear to be a biased move. Agreed that the stakes are high but both the producers are strong and know the business more than we know. The point to be noted here is that 18 December is not a festive week, like Eid or Diwali. The business will be elevated in the following week when Christmas holidays begin. May the better and bigger film do big business.

  • Hey SRK.. Why are you showing ur Power on Minions ? Come Next Eid aur agar Dum hoga toh dont u dare to post/prepone ur Raees.. Clash with Sultan.. I want this clash to happen taki tuje teri aukaat pata chale..

And a mediocore Movie like SON OF SARDAR ne teri watt laga thi..ur overhyped so called last romantic saga of Yash Chopra with Katrina, Anushka and music of AR Rehman and such big production house ended up doing to just 105 crore, same as SOS..

  • Hopefully Dilwale crosses 275cr which will be huge with clash. If BM got rejected than 300cr is onn!! KING WILL WIN ONE MORE CLASH!!

  • With one man army SRK present in Dilwale, it will be one sided race but box office is very unpredictable.. Even BM can surprise one n all.. fingers crossed.. but one thing is sure Dilwale can’t create any records..

  • im not a huge fan of SRK but mark my word dilwale win the clash with atleast 50cr collecting higher than bajirao mastani

  • A crap movie like dilwaale will suffer and a boring film like bajirao mastani will flop..

    Both will flop…

    Waiting for Star Wars ..

Star wars releasing on Christmas is an event film that will shred craps like Dilwaale into pieces…

  • Celebrate xmas with mastani….it luks superb! Lovd the deewani mastani song..
    Dullwale wil suck n sink

  • Hopefully Dilwale crosses 275cr which will be huge with clash. If BM got rejected than 300cr is onn!! KING WILL WIN ONE MORE CLASH!!!!

  • @RANGIL SINGH
Ur dad Raees will come definitely on EID….agr pichhe hatna hota to teaser nahi deta….after all itzz king khan…lets wait and watch…either sultan will run away or sultan will be defeated

  • Lagaan was underperformer ? Than JTHJ was all time disaster in front of superhit son of sardaar. Ashoka was also disaster. Indicine you have seriously lost your screw. Get a job retarded editor. Lagaan was a superhit despite being non commercial and clash with gadar.

  • Cöntent rich BM wil destroy srKAYz crapwaale…
Dullwale wil get a gud start becoz of varun and rohit.. Then it wil fall..

  • “Bhaji Pav” will not work out side Mumbai…..avg grosser, suicide attempt Mr. SLB am not saying Dilwale will be good or super good film but honestly speaking as cinelover i love to watch Dilwale in holidays for entertainment with family not period drama (blood shed, rona dhona, extra marital affaire of king shing) but my expectation from Dilwale is AVG. so this is in safe hands of Rohit or if he give wholesome entertainment than this will be next CE or chanllenge Sholay…as entertainmnet quoteint. 350 also possible…but expectations is with clash is 220…

  • Dilwale will mostly flop. This shahrukh is oversmart. Always overpromoting his films. as of biggest film in the world. He should be shown his place.

  • though bm looks classy bt such historical films looks borin n only 1 historic pic stands in recent time tat was bahubali which was massy classy bt bajirao didnt seem so on other hand srk is comin no doubt a khan film can get very better result in a clash dilwale can do more than 250 if accrpted well nor 200 is minimum as even jthj did 120+ with so many problems so 200 is an easy note for dilwale

  • Because of many big movies coming in a single year and there is a shortage of release dates we will see many clashes in the next coming years . 2016 can be called as the year of clashes with 4 Box Office Clashes taking place as of now .
Fan vs Kabali – 15th April
    Sultan vs Raees – Eid
Mohenjo Daro vs Rustom – 12th August
    Shivaay vs ADHM – Diwali
Out of all the big movies scheduled to release in 2016 only Dangal will not have a clash as of now . So Producers, Directors, Distributors, Theatre Owners, Actors and Audiences should be ready for a clash because a lot of clashes will take place in the number of years according to me . Dilwale has a slight edge because of the starcast and the genre but BM if received well can dent the collections of Dilwale . Both the movies can be profitable as both the movies are releasing on Holiday period and will have 4 weeks before Ghayal Once Again and 5 weeks before Airlift .

  • Not interested in both. Hope Dilwale flops. Oversmart shahrukh needs to be taught a lesson. And dont like ranveer, he is too irritating.
A classic like Airlift deserves to release on Christmas. But sadly not.
