Trade talks about Bajirao Mastani vs Dilwale clash

Now that the clash between Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale is confirmed, the battle for box office supremacy has begun. Shah Rukh Khan has planned a extravagant promotional strategy for his much-awaited film directed by Rohit Shetty. And given the power that he commands in the industry, the actor has booked most of the important theatres to showcase his Christmas release.

Eros, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the team behind Bajirao Mastani too are quietly confident of their film, which promises to be a modern day classic.

The trade, though, is anxious. When two big films clash at the box office, the more deserving film can sometimes be the film that suffers. For example, when Lagaan and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha released together in 2001, an all-time classic like Lagaan was the under-performer and the more commercial (and universally appealing) Gadar went on to be the biggest grosser in the history of Indian Cinema.

A trade expert who doesn’t want to be named, talks about Shah Rukh Khan using his clout to block book single-screen theatres across the country: They (Dilwale) have the clout. No one says no to Shah Rukh Khan. Remember when his Jab Tak Hai Jaan had clashed with Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar over Christmas in 2010? Ajay was left with little choice in terms of theatrical outlets.

Taran Adarsh: I don’t think Dilwale or Bajirao Mastani will shift from their December 18 release date. The respective producers are sticking to the release date. Bajirao Mastani has already commenced promotions, while the trailer of Dilwale will be attached to Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. In any case, the release of these two biggies is timed during the Christmas and New Year vacations and I genuinely feel, two good films can easily co-exist in today’s times. It’s a great period, with holidays aplenty, so why postpone?

Atul Mohan (Super Cinema Magazine): We have enough number of screens to accommodate both the films. Suggesting to anyone to bow out to make room for the other can appear to be a biased move. Agreed that the stakes are high but both the producers are strong and know the business more than we know. The point to be noted here is that 18 December is not a festive week, like Eid or Diwali. The business will be elevated in the following week when Christmas holidays begin. May the better and bigger film do big business.

  • @Indicine
This is my first comment in ur site and I want you to plz reply on my comment, it’s really very imp b/c I and other Salman Fans wants some clarifications so plz reply

I want to ask you, why u do so much partiality b/w the actors. Out of 10 articles 6 article are on SRK, trust me I have no problem with SRk and if there is any news then go ahead and publish the article but sometime u also publish the useless articles which have no sence, its like you r doing publicity for his movie. Why, did SRK pay u for that then I have problem, but then u have to accept this in ur site.

Like :- you publish an article that SRk took a break from his shooting and visit Mumbai to meet his wife (why the hell we bother about that)
Another article you put on his son Abram ( Rohit Shetty takes Abram on ride) I have nothing against this cute little baby trust me I love kids, but it feel bad when u put these useless article abt SRK nd not publishing articles on other actors.

@Indicine just go visit other site see they are so many good articles on other actors also.

I am a Salman Fan so I tell which news u miss and which u should publish

    1) PRDP censor bord Report (Censor Bord give a big thumbs Up for PRDP,and even praise the story content ) it’s a big new and its everywhere in evey site nd news channels
    2) PRDP and Tamasha Fights for single screen (Dir Sooraj booked all the single screen in all over the world and it’s a contract, accrding they have planned of paying the rentals to all single screen theatres all over India so that they can run the film in theatres as long as they want.)
    3) Salman Khan 1st Live Twitter Chat (and its not only in India but also worldwide for PRDP,its for 5 hours)
    4) Salman Khan painted the wall of his haveli room in PRDP (It’s a masterpiece painting and the owner of the haveli wants to keep the masterpiece of Megastar)
    5) He also make a small video behind the scene of PRDP movie, which is good and have lots of fun

And trust me list is so big and I cant put all these news here

So don’t do this, I love ur site so much, I am constantly visiting ur site from last 10 months each and every day, but now I won’t visit ur site much because of ur such behavior.

Even I am not sure whether u publish my comment or not but if u read my comment then plz reply

And I am requesting to the others also that if they agree with than plz like my comment so that @Indicine have to answer it. This is not only about

Salman, I am putting this comment on behalf of every actors fan. And sorry for the length of the comment.

    THANKS

  • The most important thing said in the article is in the last paragraph…….the Xmas vacations is not a big festival holiday or big holiday weekends……it stretches and people slowly and surely go to watch the movies, so wom becomes the no. 1 factor in deciding the fate and collection of a movie.

This is the biggest reason why a movie like Don 2 could not sustain as wom was not good…..while movies like 3 idiots went on to create records……a movie like D3 did good only due to Aamir and Dhoom factor…..if it had a brilliant content, it would have easily done 350+

Hence, until unless your content is strong, it will be difficult to sustain it in the long running holidays.

  • Yes come with good films…clash will not make any effect.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan & Baahubali proved it by collecting combined 600crs in India & 1200crs WW in just 4 weeks.

    @Indicine

You are talking about Lagan vs Gadar..
That happened in 2001 when Indian audience was not ready for classical film like Lagaan.
But still Lagaan became superhit ..

Now here we are in 2015.
Here almost 70% audience comes only after when initial reports out.

So there will be no problem for classic like BM.

    Its releasing on 18th.
    Which is non holiday period.

Holidays will start from 25th & upto it the picture will be clear & the classic audience will come in theaters in huge numbers.

So i think there will be no problem for BM…& it will easily collect 120-150crs.

Even if BM release in non holiday period without clash…then also its lifetime will be in same range….so clash is not making any damage to BM.

  • Dilwale will win the clash but due to both the release at the same day it will not be all tym blockbuster like others

  • Diwali 2001 clash

  • one thing sure winning is for srk when it comes to box office. he is the one man army. but bm looks grand to watch with sets. so far Indians like masala movies so sure dilwale is winner and records based on clashes srk has huge track record still now he never lose any clash

  • There is a reason why no one says no to Shahrukh Khan.Whenever his movies arrive you are guaranteed an initial at the box office..A film like My name is Khan released in the month of February and still had the second biggest opening weekend of all time..his commercial entertainers Chennai express and happy new year are record breakers..why wouldn’t anyone agree to give him their screens? Coming to the clash Bajirao Mastani will not appeal to single screen audience especially in core Hindi markets apart from Mumbai circuit.are the audiences apart from Maharashtra eager to watch a film on a Maratha warrior? Do they want to watch his battles? Hell if anyone actually wants to watch Bajirao Peshwa’s undefeated glorious battles,Bhansali sir is busy showing his love life with his two wives.what is he actually trying to make,I still can’t get that..
On the other hand Dilwale has all the ingredients of a favourable festive release.Rohit Shetty as the director who knows the pulse of the audience. Varun dhawan is emerging as the most promising new comer and he is increasing his fan following with each passing film. And then u have Shahrukh Khan in the lead in a light hearted entertainer which will appeal to all sections of audience.Just imagine urself as an exhibitor of a single screen or a B-tier multiplex situated in UP,Bihar,Cp,CI,Rajasthan,Haryana and ask urself that after knowing the in and out of both these films which film would u like to screen? The answer of course will be Dilwale.
If Dilwale manages to get 3000 screens with a clash then there is a possibility of a 85 crore weekend..or else 75 crore is well on cards

  • Dilwale can cross 300cr but only in two condition
1 Dilwale will be accepeted universall(CE)
2 Bajirao mastani will be rejected like bomby velvet(125cr budget)
Or one word say OSO v/s Sawaria(2007) history must be repeated in Dilwale v/s BM(2015) n srk dilivered again HGOTY after OSO

  • Budget of bajirao is more than 100 crs this is an alarming thing for slb
Masala/romantic comedy films do better business in India historical/ thriller movies , dilwale has varun, sarukh, kajol directed by rohit shetty on the other hand bajirao has ranvir, priyanka and deepika directed by slb
It’s quite risky for team bajirao to clash with dilwale.
    @indicine
Who booked the date first slb or r. Shetty ?

  • Both film looking promising but ranveer & deepika can’t compete with srk.dilwale sure shot winner because of superstar srk & entertaining value

  • BM will not affect Dilwale as both are releasing on non holiday. If both films release on holiday then Dilwale miss holiday benifit i.e 100% ocupancy in 4500screen but due to non holiday release Dilwale get 85%ocupancy in 3200screen with clash but 65% ocupancy in 4500screen with out clash so affect will be negligible if Dilwale will be accepted unversally n last word pk record will be broken

  • Salman Fan, Present: Bajirao Mastani much bigger than crap Dilwale
Future: BM is rejected by adiencence n Bahubali affected BB thats why rohit shetty Varunwale break pk record too much fun

  • Rangil singh. Tum ne kya achieve kar liya life mai jo tum srk ko challenge karo. Dono film will be succesful. Inshallah. Mark my words. 400+ on card for both films this christmas.

  • Dil Waale will crash The Magnum Opus of Bhansali.

    My Predictions for both movies.
    Dil Waale = 250 to 300 crore
    Bajirao Mastani = 60 to 90 crore

King Khan did not loss any clash.
SRK born to rule box office as BaadShah

  • @Rohitene which site declare lagan super hit its just a hit did only 20cr business n who told you BM is clasic, yes expectation is huge but remember what happened with bomby velvet when it failed to fullfill expectation

  • son of sardar & jab tak hai jaan clashed on diwali 2012 not Christmas 2010 . pls get your facts right before publishing any article
