Several actors, music directors and other film personalities have been picked this year, to receive India’s top civilian awards – Padma Bhushan (3rd highest) and Padma Shri (4th highest) – today, as India celebrates its 60th Republic day.

1) Zohra Segal (actress) – Padma Vibhushan
2) Aamir Khan (actor) – Padma Bhushan
3) Ilaiyaraja (music director) – Padma Bhushan
4) A R Rahman (music director, singer) – Padma Bhushan
5) Rekha (actress) – Padma Shri
6) Saif Ali Khan (actor) – Padma Shri
7) Resul Pookutty (sound designer) – Padma Shri
Our take
Thought the likes of Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan – to name a few – were more deserving of the Padma Shri, their achievement and contributions to Hindi cinema over the years has been a lot more compared to someone like Saif Ali Khan.
Rekha should have gotten the award much earlier, her contribution to Indian cinema has been immense. Ditto for Ilaiyaraja, who was one of the men who introduced A R Rahman to the world.

Also think, its time for Sachin Tendulkar to get the Bharat Ratna now!
These Awards r baseless these days, Like akshay received Padmashree last yr.. ;) ha ha. give it 2 d once who really deserve.

You missed Zohra Saigal in the list. Though she is a prominent theater artist, her contribution towards hindi movies is significant.
I am surprised that Saif got the award before Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan.
I do not know why there are so much conservatism regarding Bharat Ratna. Persons like Satyajit Ray or Lata Mangeshkar got the award much later. it is not good that the people from our soil getting top honors from foreign countries much before getting it from India.
I think Sachin, Amitabh, Narayan Murthy should get Bharat Ratna for excellence in respective fields.

The only ones i agree with are A R Rahman and Rekha. The others in my perspective do not deserve one because, they have not put effort in their work. I agree that Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, or even Ajay Devgan are more deserving. As well as, Shah Rukh Khan, all his efforts and his love for the audience should be recognized. However, unlike Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan admitted that people like Karan Johar, Ramesh Taurani, and Farhan Akhtar are behind his success. Overall, I believe some were more deserving than others however, congratulations to all of them.
