Top 3 Bollywood Grossers of Each Month

A comment that deserved to be converted into an article was posted by a reader (Saksham Duggal) in the Indicine comments section. He lists out the Top 3 highest grossers of each month along with the name of the actor who headed the star-cast.

We have added our own points including the biggest releases of each month in 2015.

Agneepath

January: It will be interesting to see if Akshay Kumar’s Baby can beat Agneepath this year.

  • Agneepath (121 cr) - Hrithik Roshan
  • Jai Ho (112 cr) - Salman Khan
  • Race 2 (101 cr) - Saif Ali Khan and John Abraham

Gunday
February: There are two big releases in the month of February – Roy starring Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Jacqueline Fernandez and Varun Dhawan’s Badlapur.

  • Gunday (78 cr) - Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor
  • My Name Is Khan (73 cr) - Shahrukh Khan
  • Special 26 (69 cr) – Akshay Kumar

Race
March: A month during which female-centric films have dominated. The target for March releases this year is just 63 crore. Emraan Hashmi’s Tigers and Yash Raj Films’ Bank Chor are the biggest releases of the month.

  • Queen (62 cr) – Kangana Ranaut
  • Kahaani (59 cr) – Vidya Balan

Housefull 2
April: The month of April 2015 has quite a few big releases – Akshay Kumar’s Gabbar, Detective Byomkesh Baksh, Mr X and Piku. Which film can break the record of Housefull 2?

  • Housefull 2 (116 cr) - Akshay Kumar and John Abraham
  • 2 States (102 cr) – Arjun Kapoor
  • Aashiqui 2 (81 cr) – Aditya Roy Kapoor

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
May: Ranbir Kapoor will be competing with himself this year. Bombay Velvet will challenge the record of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which releases soon after the IPL, a couple of years ago. The other big release is Welcome Back.

  • Shootout at Wadala (62 cr) – John Abraham
  • Fanaa (53 cr) – Aamir Khan

Rowdy Rathore
June: Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do, Emraan Hashmi and Mohit Suri’s Hamari Adhuri Kahani and ABCD 2 starring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor are the big releases of the month.

  • Rowdy Rathore (134 cr) – Akshay Kumar
  • Ready (121 cr) – Salman Khan
  • Holiday (113 cr) – Akshay Kumar

Kick
July: Salman vs Salman. His Eid release ‘Bhajrangi Bhaijaan’ will challenge his last year’s release Kick for the highest grosser of the month. There is another big release – Dharma Productions’ Brothers starring Akshay and Sidharth Malhotra.

  • Kick (233 cr) – Salman Khan
  • Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (106 cr) – Farhan Akhtar
  • Bol Bachchan (102 cr) – Ajay Devgn

Chennai Express
August: Shahrukh will be competing with himself, although this year it would be a non-festive release. His much-awaited film FAN will release on August 14 during the Independence Day weekend. The other big release is Kabir Khan’s Phantom starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif – a film that he started before Bhajrangi Bhaijaan!

  • Chennai Express (227 cr) - Shahrukh Khan
  • Ek Tha Tiger (199 cr) - Salman Khan
  • Bodyguard (145 cr) – Salman Khan

Dabangg
September: Only Shandaar and Katti Batti are scheduled to release in September. More films are expected to be announced soon.

  • Barfi! (106 cr) – Ranbir Kapoor
  • Grand Masti (100 cr) – Ritesh Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi

Happy New Year
October: Akshay Kumar and Prabhu Deva’s Singh Is Bling releases on Gandhi Jayanti. There are also reports that UTV might release Ranbir’s Jagga Jasoos. The target will be SRK’s Happy New Year.

  • Happy New Year (204 cr) - Shahrukh Khan
  • Bang Bang (181 cr) - Hrithik Roshan
  • Ra.One (125 cr) – Shahrukh Khan

Krrish 3
November: Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will be up against Hrithik’s Krrish 3. Since there are 10 more months to go for November, more films will be announced. However, PRDP will be the biggest release of the month.

  • Jab Tak Hai Jaan (120 cr) - Shahrukh Khan
  • Ram Leela (116 cr) – Ranveer Singh

PK
December: The Christmas weekend has been dominated by Aamir Khan over the years. Stars like Akshay Kumar (Tees Maar Khan), Shahrukh Khan (Don 2) and Salman Khan (Dabangg 2) have tried their luck, but Aamir is in a league of his own in December. Unfortunately, he has no Christmas release this year. But there are rumours that Rohit Shetty will release a film starring Shahrukh Khan. The last time they came together, they delivered the biggest grosser of all time.

  • PK (340 cr) – Aamir Khan
  • Dhoom 3 (285 cr) – Aamir Khan
  • 3 Idiots (202 cr) – Aamir Khan

    I don’t think you ever understood Rang De basanti, 3 idiots or Pk. They are not against the system. They are in fact for the system. They are talking about the things which harm the system. Success not passion, blind faith, hopelessness, these are the ideas they are talking about.
