Top 15 Bollywood Actors in India – November 2014

The last time we ranked the Top 15 stars in the industry, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan were ranked right at the top. That has changed after the release of two big films like Bang Bang and Happy New Year. The bottom of the list has changed a little too.

We have decided to make our ranking system the most comprehensive in the industry. We will be analysing the box office collections of the Top 15 actors. The ranking system will also be divided into three; Top Actor in India, Overseas and Worldwide. The list below is for the Top 15 Actors in India i.e the domestic market only.

  • The list would be based on the net box office collections of an actor’s last five movies. For younger actors, the minimum number of films is 3.
  • Only lead roles would be considered. Cameos, special appearances and guest appearances won’t be taken under consideration. Non-commercial and art films like ‘Dhobi Ghat’ have also not been considered.
  • Dated movies that released before 2007 have not been considered.
  • Only domestic box office collections is being taken into account. Collections from all regional versions have been taken into considering as this list is for the top actors in India and regional language releases affect Hindi business in their respective states. For example, Tamil version will affect business of Hindi version in Tamilnadu / Kerala circuit.

Top Actors In Bollywood

Salman Khan Actor

Salman Khan – Kick (234 cr), Jai Ho (112 cr), Dabangg 2 (160 cr), Ek Tha Tiger (199 cr), Bodyguard (141 cr)
Salman Khan Total Movie Collections: 846 crore (Average per film: 169.2 cr)

Rank 1. The average collections of Salman Khan’s last five films has gone up from 152 cr to nearly 170 crore per film! The superstar is quite clearly way ahead of the competition in the domestic markets and has dominated the box office in India like no other actor in the history of Indian Cinema. Salman now has one 200 crore grosser (nearly two because Ek Tha Tiger collected 199 cr). His success ratio is incredible too  - all his films since Dabangg (2010) have done well. His blockbuster ratio is even better – 6 out of 7 films have been blockbusters or all time blockbusters!

Shahrukh Khan Actor

Shahrukh Khan – Happy New Year (205 cr), Chennai Express (227 crore), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (122 cr), Don 2 (112 cr), Ra. One (125 cr)
Shahrukh Khan Total Movie Collections: 791 crore (Average per film: 158.2 cr)

Rank 2. Happy New Year had to collect Rs 260 crore or more for Shahrukh Khan to topple Salman Khan right at the top of the list. The film ended up with lifetime collections of around 205 crore (still running), enough to ensure that he goes past Aamir Khan at the domestic box office. SRK also became the first actor to deliver two back-to-back 200 crore grossers. His average per film has also significantly risen from 131 to 158.2 crore. The superstar’s forthcoming releases are Maneesh Sharma’s Fan and Rahul Dholakia’s Raees.

Aamir Khan Actor

Aamir Khan – Dhoom 3 (283 cr), Talaash (90 cr), 3 Idiots (202 cr), Ghajini (115 cr), Taare Zameen Par (63 cr)
Aamir Khan Total Movie Collections: 753 cr (Average per film: 150.6 cr)

Rank 3. Aamir Khan is ranked at No 3, not because his films have performed badly, but because he does very few films. Since we take the last 5 films into account, his fifth last release is Taare Zameen Par which released in theatres in 2007. He could take the top spot if Rajkumar Hirani’s PK collects 157 cr or more, and will most certainly reclaim his second spot from Shahrukh Khan. No actor has come close to Salman in India in the last three years, but Aamir has every chance of taking the top spot by the end of 2014. PK releases in theatres on December 19 2014.

Akshay Kumar Actor

Hrithik Roshan – Bang Bang (181 cr), Krrish 3 (244 cr), Agneepath (120 cr), Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara (90 cr), Guzaarish (30 cr)
Hrithik Roshan Total Movie Collections: 665 cr (Average per film: 133 cr)

Rank 4. The release of Bang Bang temporarily took Hrithik ahead of SRK at the domestic box office, but before Bang Bang finished its run, Happy New Year had already released in theatres. Hrithik’s average of 133 cr is fantastic, comparable to the Khans even though he doesn’t always get to release his films during Eid, Diwali or Christmas. To elaborate a little more on this, out of the last 5 films, all SRK films have released during one of the three festivals, except Jai Ho all Salman films have released during the three most lucrative periods in the industry and Aamir Khan too has preferred to release his films during Christmas (all except Talaash). Hrithik got just one Diwali release for Krrish 3 and made the most of it. He will be missing from action in 2015, as his next release is Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjodaro (Jan 2016).

Ranbir Kapoor Actor

Ranbir Kapoor – Besharam (59 cr), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (189 cr), Barfi! (110 cr), Rockstar (68 cr), Anjaana Anjaani (40 cr)
Ranbir Kapoor Total Movie Collections: 466 cr (Average per film: 93.2 cr)

Rank 5. Besharam was expected to take a good start at the box office and it did, what with the film collecting close to Rs 20 crore on its opening day. But the response was so bad that the film ended with lifetime business of less than 60 crore. It was arguably the worst received biggie of the year, as even a film like Himmatwala held up better over the weekend. If he has to beat Hrithik, his next film would have to collect Rs 239 crore!

Rank 6: Action Jackson has to collect Rs 118 crore or more for Ajay Devgn to go past Ranbir Kapoor and make it to the Top 5 for the first time in his career. His decision to opt for masala-entertainers over hard-hitting class-oriented films has paid rich dividends as the actor has a much larger audience base in the last few years. Action Jackson releases in the first week of December.

  • Singham Returns (139 cr)
  • Satyagraha (62 cr)
  • Himmatwala (45 cr)
  • Son of Sardaar (102 cr)
  • Bol Bachchan (101 cr)
  • Forthcoming film: Action Jackson
  • Total: 449 cr (Average per film: 89.8 cr)

Rank 7 Akshay Kumar: He does more than 3 films every year, yet averages 76 cr per film. Akshay has films like Gabbar, Singh Is Bling and Warrior which could take him to the Top 5. So far, he was competing with Ajay Devgn for the 6th spot, but the latter has overtaken him with the release of Singham Returns. Do note that ‘The Shaukeens’ didn’t feature Akshay Kumar in the lead.

  • Entertainment – 72 cr
  • Holiday: A Solider Is Never Off Duty – 113 cr
  • Boss – 59 cr
  • Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobaara – 63 cr
  • Special 26 – 69 cr
  • Fortchoming film: Gabbar
  • Total Collections: 376 cr (Average per film: 75.2 cr)

Rank 8 Sidharth Malhotra: Quickly emerging as one of the most popular stars in the country, Sidharth Malhotra commands a huge following on social media websites like Twitter and Facebook. His last release, Ek Villain, was a huge success at the box office. He deserves credit even though the presence of Mohit Suri as director, Ritiesh Deshmukh and chartbuster music helped big time.

  • Ek Villain - 103 cr
  • Hasee Toh Phasee - 35 cr
  • Student Of The Year - 70 cr
  • Forthcoming film - Bhavesh Joshi
  • Total Collections – 208 cr (Average per film: 69.3 cr)

Rank 9 Varun Dhawan: We said it after Main Tera Hero, we say it again. Varun is one of the most promising stars in the industry, a superstar in the making. In just 3 films, he has established himself in the industry. A film like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, released 2 weeks before Salman Khan’s Kick and during the Ramadan period, has collected nearly 80 cr at the domestic box office. Huge!

  • Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania – 77 cr
  • Main Tera Hero - 54 cr
  • Student Of The Year - 70 cr
  • Forthcoming film: Badlapur
  • Total Collections – 201 cr (Average per film: 67 cr)

Rank 10 John Abraham: John is no longer a solo star. Multi-starrers like Race 2 and Housefull 2 are his biggest grossers. In an ensemble star cast like the upcoming Welcome Back, he is still a force to be reckoned with.

  • Madras Café - 45 cr
  • Shootout at Wadala - 62 cr
  • I, Me aur Main - 9 cr
  • Race 2 - 102 cr
  • Housefull 2 - 114 cr
  • Forthcoming film - Welcome Back
  • Total Collections – 332 cr (Average per film: 66.4 cr)

Rank 11 Saif Ali Khan: Fairly popular with audience in big cities, but has absolutely no following in smaller towns. He has been consistent over the years, but relies too heavily on other factors like trailer, music and director to bring audience to theatres.

  • Humshakals - 63 cr
  • Bullet Raja- 36 cr
  • Race 2 - 102 cr
  • Cocktail - 76 cr
  • Agent Vinod - 45 cr
  • Forthcoming film - Happy Ending
  • Total - 322 cr (Average per film: 64.4 cr)

Rank 12 Arjun Kapoor: The box office performance of an off-beat film like Finding Fanny hasn’t affected his standing in the industry. He could drop down a position in the list after Ranveer’s Kill Dil finishes its run, but Tevar should do him good. The film has received a positive response in the trade and should open very well at mass centres.

  • Finding Fanny –  cr
  • 2 States - 102 cr
  • Gunday - 78 cr
  • Aurangzeb - 23 cr
  • Ishaqzaade - 49 cr
  • Forthcoming film - Tevar
  • Total Collections – 287 cr (Average per film: 57.4 cr)

Rank 13 Ranveer Singh: The poor opening of Kill Dil could affect him, but it should also take Ranveer higher up the list. The film needs to collect 66 crore for Ranveer to beat Saif Ali Khan and rank at No 11. He would make it to the Top 10 if Kill Dill collects 76 crore or more.

  • Gunday – 78 cr
  • Ram Leela - 109 cr
  • Lootera - 31 cr
  • Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl - 38 cr
  • Band Baaja Baaraat - 24 cr
  • Forthcoming film - Kill Dil
  • Total Collections - 280 cr (Average per film: 56 cr)

Rank 14 Shahid Kapoor: The critically and commercial success of Haider has helped Shahid Kapoor go one spot up in the ranking. He sneaks ahead of Emraan Hashmi.

  • Haider – 58 cr
  • R.. Rajkumar - 65 cr
  • Phata Poster Nikhla Hero - 39 cr
  • Teri Meri Kahaani - 29 cr
  • Mausam - 33 cr
  • Forthcoming film - Shaandar
  • Total Collections – 224 cr (Average per film: 44.8 cr)

Rank 15 Emraan Hashmi: The disastrous performance of Raja Natwarlal at the box office earlier this year has pushed Emraan right to the bottom of the list. He awaits the release of Dharma Productions’ Ungli which is the last release of November 2014.

  • Raja Natwarlal – 27 cr
  • Ghanchakkar - 39 cr
  • Ek Thi Daayan - 27 cr
  • Jannat 2 - 54 cr
  • Raaz 3 - 74 cr
  • Forthcoming film - Ungli
  • Total collections - 221 cr (Average per film: 44.2 cr)

Even after 20 plus years, the Khans – Salman, Aamir, SRK – still dominate the industry and are by far the most dependable stars. Hrithik has always been in the Top 5 since he made his debut in 2000. He temporarily took the top spot in 2006, but was pushed back after the release of Kites and Guzaarish. Ranbir is the most popular actor amongst the newer bunch of actors who made their debut after 2006. The likes of Ranveer, Varun, Sidharth and Arjun are the stars to watch out for in the future. Akshay and Ajay will continue to churn out 3-4 films every year. Akshay has a strong lineup, Ajay has Rohit Shetty!

The list will be updated after the release of Happy Ending, Ungli, Action Jackson and PK.

We will also be publishing the ‘Top Bollywood Actors in the overseas markets’ and also the worldwide ranking.

  • @Sani D, @ Ajay rocks and @shri,
In Myanmar, No.1 famous star is Ajay, No.2 Salman, No.3 Akki, No.4 Sunil shetty and No.5 Hr in rural and urban areas. In Myanmar now nobody see SRK movie coz he is outdated. Thanks to all….

  • @trooper do u even know the meaning of acting? Oh I forgot I am talking with a moron star’s moron fan. How can you judge moron? Aamir’s acting was far better than hrithik’s acting in dhoom 2, srk’s acting from Lungiexpress, and many others. Aamir is far better actor than all crap actors in Bollywood, like shahrukh, akshay, etc.

  • @trooper, shut up before you come up with another moronic comment. Everyone was impressed with aamir’s acting. You are no body to judge. Srk’s acting has been horrible always, just buying toys won’t make him an actor. Aamir is complete natural actor.

  • @Myanmar… Awww tanx for d statistic!! U rock! @least I know there r still lots of continents @shri (north america) ajay rocks(Europe) Myanmar (Asia) sid/hritick (Asia) me(Africa) where we all recognize REAL TALENTS !!!! We r not bias we give our points and stick with it and don’t even get impotent challengers having nothing any more to comment!!

  • @shri…. Excellent compilation!!! U deserve to b selected for Oscars and not HAPPY NEW YEAR SCREENPLAY!!! U r d well deserved LAGAAN OSCAR NOMINATION of INDICINE!!!
Also…I think @SSS WALLE…..u should include AKSHAY KUMAR alone with AAMIR SALMAN and AJAY…..so talented hardworking and another CONSISTANT ACTOR for more than 20years!! No Filmfare awards(WHO CARES) Hus FAN BASE speaks for itself alone!! So let me help u out!!
@SSSWALLE….. Sorry dude shri ommited a name by mistake!!….. Its like this….ICONS OF BOLLYWOOD WITHOUT OSCARS BUT REAL DRIVE OF BOLLYWOOD for 20+YEARS CAREER…
    AAMIR (LIEONADRO DI CAPRO
    SALMAN(BRAD PITT)
    AJAY(JOHNNY DEPP
    AKSHAY(JOHN TRAVOLTA)

  • Those with Oscars already…SRk… TOM CRUISE
    HrRITKk… BEN AFFLEK
Sorry rhandbir will have 5mire years to b included…let’s see his surviving capacity abit more b4 judging…

  • @suchit no point in arguing with idiots like you. I always said aamir is a good actor but dhoom3 has to be his weakest movie in terms of acting and many people will agree with that. And if you think srk cant act then you need to go see a psychiatrist

  • @trooper you are saying dhoom 3 is aamir’s weakest movie in acting than what was Chennai express?????? was srk actin in it? you need a psychiatrist dear, not me. before telling me an idiot you should first check the reality with open eyes in Chennai express srk’s acting was extremely pathetic and outdated and horrible. at least aamir was not overacting like shahrukh in dhoom 3. don’t be a blind fan. it was you who started the war of stardom, so i have to finish it.

  • @suchit well the war on stardom will be decided when PK releases. and when did i ever say SRK’s acting in CE was amazing? if you think SRK has never acted well, then you have a problem. of course there will be movies when SRK hasn’t acted well. same goes for aamir. his acting in ghajini and D3 are nothing to boast off. so relax. if PK grosses above 80cr in the first 3 days then come talk to me. till then stop arguing.

  • @trooper srk’s last acting was good in chak de India. That’s it. Now do u have any guts to say that aamir’s acting was good in this movie? U r hypocrite. U can only find movie in which aamir’s acting was not great. But again aamir’s acting in ghajini was awesome. Don’t judge with your little mind. And yes PK will surely open with bang. Forget 80 cr tiny figure, it will smash HNY’s weekend collections. Aamir is class actor not ordinary crap actor like srk who can never do experimental roles and just does same crap romantic movies with heroines who are half his age and look like his daughters. Deepike, Katrina, priyanka, Arusha and Keena all look like his daughters. And still shamelessly does those craps. PK is a class movie for people who have brain and are higher standard. Aamir’s fans are class with brain, not silly and mindless fans like srk fans like you.

  • Ha ha ha ha.these 3ids–@sani d,@shri,@ajay rocks, have an intermittent relations that now with in a few days have grown a lot.Really liked a lot.now look at @indicine’s some good movie watchers, these 3 ids are great quality movie watchers like himmatwala, sos, bol bachchan, singham returns and upcoming koyla devgan’s akson jakson .so is that MY guilty to not like those movies?or may according @shri,I don’t belongs to famous worldwide bhojpuri from which @sani d belongs who likes oscar winning movies like dabang12,ready,bg,jai ho.so sorry all of you high quality movie watchers forgive me,u belongs to western country but don’t know who is biggest overseas star of INDIA?had I ever stopped you guys from watching those high quality movies in overseas?

@ajay rocks, really only your comments has sense!!sorry and forgive me for not given priority to films lime zakhm which was released in the same year when DIL SE,K2H2 released and sorry for not liking other high quality movies like gangajaal, apaharan, legend of fake Singh, rascal.because who ever acted in those high quality movies must be better than AN ACTOR who acted in low quality movies like PAHELI,DEVDAS,VZ,SWADES,CDI,MNIK,RNBDJ,JTHJ.really how silly dumb I’m,LOL?but wait neither you have good past nor present still could decide who is better, hats off koyla devgan’s fans.
same reply also apied on @shri-quality movie watcher!!ha ha ha ha….

@sid,what to say to you half actor fans!!now the same I have to repeat yes you’re masla classic or wannabe classic watching complan boys like 3i(topper in overnight),rdb,pk(jadoo 2/charlie chaplin-barfi2) yes last good movies of amir with out overact I had seen us lagaan which is too masala/wannabe classic.but the beat was tzp which is true classic but acted by darshil, too bad,LOL.but don’t worry WE are true classic watchers like KHNH,SWADES,CDI,MNIK,PAHELI,DEVDAS,JTHJ,VZ and liked some of like LUNCH BOX,HAIDER.so there is a huge difference between FILMFARE winning actor category actors like BIGB/DILLIPJI/KING KHAN and another wannabe category like amir/some of like his past generation actor.so pity on you WE have a different CLASS.

@hrithik,ding dong ding dong.prepare to leave indicine,HNY(380CR) is above kick(377cr).BTW I know FILMFARE didn’t have any value for you because you’re watching classic like jai ho really bhojpuris has a great class.yes that’s why WE are very poor.and liking poor movies like MNIK/CDI.,LOL.

  • @indicine,kindly post my most valuable 1:02am unabusive comments.I’ll be very glad if you publish this comment which I want to represent as of one my genuine tthinking, thanks.

  • @sani d,yes ur right amir, salman, ajay(seriously with johney, lol),akki is wannabe like Leonardo nooscario, brad, johny, john. But KING SRK is one and only genuine HE IS SRK.HE is world’s biggest megastar according to BBC world followed by Angelina in 2nd and tom cruise in 3rd.world’s 2ND RICHEST ACTOR even belongs to bollywood even having no spoon fed filmy father.HE is far above then those Hollywood legends who in a small industry challenged to such actors lower to HIS caliber belongs to biggest industry.HE is more than just A LEGEND.

In simple sense with out any idiocy,if WE type in google—-KING OF BOLLYWOOD,then WE’LL find HIS PHOTO AND IDENTIFICATION.

  • @SSS-Lungiwaale, I think you are an alien. you all 1/4 actor fans fing aamir half actor which is twice of shahrukh who is 1/4. so you are making fun of your own star. realy I have never seen an alien like you in an other planet. really bro, you are an item. you are a KAMAAL ki CHEEZ. I want to see you mate. I want to put you in a big museum so, every tourist in india comes, can see you in museum with some amaze. keep going bro, you are almost close to your destiny. after some years you will be the eith wonder of the world. keep it up.

  • 2000-2008 tak koun sa khan king tha Bollywood ka ?? Only hrithik is the king of Bollywood
2000-kaho na pyar he(blockbuster)-highest grossing film of the yr @best actor hr
    same thing repeat in
    2003-koi mil gaya
    2006-dhoom 2
    and in 2008-jodha akber
2000-2008 ke andar kya khans mar Gaye the kya ??
    Hitler old Bollywood @ Hrithik

  • what is this about ajay devgn he is one of the best actors in bollywood he has been in the industry for almost 20 yrs now , has Rohit Shetty been always there , he is a 2 time national award winner nor Salman nor Shahrukh have done that . It is very bad of Indicine to portray him as a pony of Rohit Shetty , even SRK before Chennai Express had a very bad phase , his films were well of the mark he was way behind Salman , Aamir ,Akshay and even Ajay in terms of Box Office Collections

  • akshay Kumar is biggest successful officer in his film holiday, gabber is back, baby, special 26 and more than…… so akki ki performance is very great

  • 3 khans =1 khiladi.
akshay do 4 films in the year how energy lost of his. in 1991 he do 17 films in year in which 12 are hits

  • akshay do all action as rowdy rathore, romance in namestey london, comedy in herapherti he do all type of film hence he is a real king of bollywood

  • After all SRK is the all time king and Badshah of Bollywood. The bollywood is nothing without Badshah. No one in this film industry can overtake his position. I love him as I was loving Kaka.
