Q. Which is the highest non-holiday grosser in Bollywood? A film that didn’t release during the major holiday weekends i.e Republic Day, after the IPL, Eid, Gandhi Jayanti, Diwali and Christmas (Sujith Kumar)
A. Good question, because the answer might surprise a lot of people. No film released during the non-holiday weekend has crossed 120 crore.
The highest non-holiday grosser is Sanjay Leela Bhasanli’s Ram Leela, which released a couple of weeks after Diwali last year and collected Rs 118 crore.
The second highest non-holiday grosser is Housefull 2, which gave producers the confidence to release their film during the first week of IPL. Housefull 2 released on 6th April 2012 and collected Rs 115 crore at the domestic box office.

Note: Top stars like Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan haven’t had a single non-holiday release in the last 3 years. Aamir Khan had one, Talaash, which collected around 93 cr.

* Dhoom 3 crossed CE only due to Dhoom franchise & Christmas vacations.
* Jai Ho released during Republic Day weekend with 26th Jan falling on Sunday still its a Holiday release hence Salman failed.
* When Salman fans defended Jai Ho as non holiday suddenly Don 2 became a non holiday bcoz 25th December fell on a Sunday. Ok, agreed but morons why have you been Bashing Aamir for sticking with Christmas release ??? !!!!!!

@indicine : May be your logic regarding post-IPL season is true. But still, you cannot consider it as a holiday release, since there are no holidays during that season. A holiday or a festival season release has lots of advantages than that. It’s really unfair to consider post-IPL season as a holiday release just because it’s good for movies. It can have an advantage. But still a movie like YJHD didn’t have a single extra holiday during it’s entire run.

SRK’s last non-holiday releases were: MNIK, RNBDJ and CDI. MNIK did 74 crores (120cr+ today) which was good for the genre of the film and RNBDJ and CDI were big blockbusters.
