Tanu Weds Manu Returns is on a historic run at the box office. The Anand L Rai film is not competing with other films released in 2015, but with major grossers featuring some of the biggest names in the industry.
A fact that’s staggering to say the least – the 10th day collections of ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ is only about 5% lower than the first day business of ‘Gabbar Is Back’! A major grosser like Chennai Express collected Rs 25.21 crore in its second weekend at the box office. Tanu Weds Manu Returns has collected Rs 28.3 crore!
In fact, the second weekend business is even comparable to last year’s Eid release Kick, which collected Rs 34.01 crore.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns has already collected around Rs 99 crore in 10 days. It could go on to do business of Rs 130 crore or more, beating films like Jai Ho, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Golmaal 3, Ram Leela, Holiday: A Solider Is Never Off Duty, Agneepath, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Housefull 2 and several others. The 10-day business of the film was also higher than Aamir Khan’s Talaash!

Just imagine if this movie was released on a festival Holiday, and would have got the advantage that movies like Chennai Express got with mid-week holidays etc.,?
It would have grossed atleast 200 crs in India itself.
In the last 4-5 years, i have seen a few movies that have got really good wom and people talking about it everywhere – 3 idiots, Dabangg, Chennai Express and now TWMR. People just flocked to these movies.
But of these, TWMR is the only non-festival release without an A-list lead actor (hero), and yet it is breaking all records. This is fantastic.
