Talaash Movie Review

It’s been a long wait for an Aamir Khan film.. 35 months after the release of 3 Idiots, Khan returns with Reema Kagti’s Talaash, co-written by the writers of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (Reema and Zoya Akhtar). The film also features two of the most talented leading ladies in the industry, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherji.

Story: Talaash revolves around a mysterious accident of a popular film actor. Police officer Surjan Singh Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) heads the investigation team. Devrath (Raj Kumar Yadav) a junior police officer and a stunningly gorgeous sex worker Rosy (Kareena Kapoor), help him solve the mystery.

Talaash is also about Shekhawat’s personal life. He is yet to get over his son’s tragic death. Blaming himself for the accident, Shekhawat suffers from Insomnia. Leaving his wife Roshni (Rani Mukherji) back home, he spends his nights driving through isolated streets.

Talaash Review

First Half: Talaash begins well, director Reema Kagti takes her own sweet time in establishing the characters and the mystery. The narrative is gripping and absorbing enough to keep you hooked throughout the first half, even though the pace tends to slacken at times. No screen-time is wasted on forced comedy, action or unnecessary item numbers. Every shot has a meaning and takes the story forward. At interval, you don’t really know what to expect next.

Second Half: The mystery begins to unfold and from here on, expect the unexpected. The ending is outrageous, something that Indian audience wouldn’t expect from a big budget commercial film. While the writers convincingly explain the mystery, you will either end up loving it or walk away ridiculing the climax.

Performances: As a hardened cop who struggles with his own personal issues, Aamir Khan delivers a nuanced performance. Watch out for the scene in the second half when Rani Mukherji confronts him, the pain in his eyes of a father who holds himself responsible for the death of his son and the sea-side sequence with Kareena Kapoor when he breaks down – Aamir is brilliant. Rani Mukherji does her bit as a pained mother. Kareena Kapoor’s performance reminds you of her Chameli act. Both actresses don’t get enough scope to showcase their acting talent. Nawazuddin Siddiqui makes an impact. Raj Kumar Yadav does well.

Mohanan’s camera work is excellent, he captures the Mumbai night in all it’s glory. Dialogues by Farhan Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap are good. Ram Sampath’s music isn’t very catchy, but is situational and well-placed in the film. Jee Le Zaraa is a gem.

Overall, Talaash is a well-directed film with good performances. Most of the film will be loved by the urban audience, but it’s the unconventional ending that may not be liked by all.

  • @Rajesh : This so-called “flop” movie will still make more than the over-rated and much hyped diwali release JTHJ..keep sulking!!

  • @khan : Just like the “King” crap too is highly over-rated on an actor whose relied heavily on just 2 directors to give blockbusters and whose yet to cross the unadjusted collections of Ghajini!!

  • Guys if you knw all about the actors and their movies…then why didnt you direct a movie with your own selected actors..pls dont pass stupid comments about those actors..they better knw how to direct a movie and acting in those their movies..but you guys tried to be oversmrt so passes those piddi comment about actors and their movies..

  • THIS IS WORST MOVIE OF AAMIR KHAN AFTER GREAT 3 IDIOTS THIS IS NOT WHAT WE EXPECT
    NO STORY TOO MUCH SLOW
IN THE END A HORROR MOVIE

AAMIR SIR YOU FIRST TIME DISAPPOINTED US

  • Talaash is a good movie with a very different plot. It has a layered story and it is not only a suspense thriller like Kahaani but deals with a transformation of Amir’s character as he goes through his life. Amir, Rani and Nayaz are wonderful in this movie. Kareena is OK. It is a dark movie and not a masala movie like Jab Tak hai Jan which was the last movie that we saw. JTHJ was a glossy make believe movie which had no relation to reality. But you will be able relate to the characters in Talaash. Talaash is shot entirely in Mumbai without any dance numbers ( there are some songs but they are more of background songs to describe the mood). So go and see this movie if you like serious movie. Go and see this movie if you are an Amir Khan fan. go and see this movie if you feel we should support serious and different movies. You will like it. But if you are a fan of Son of Sardar/K786 you may not like this movie. It may seem too slow, too dark and too boring.

  • In talaash movie -> Kareena can open and get out of car and touch things, bt she cant shoot her killers so used aamir. What an intelligent film and intelligent audience!

In Dabangg movie ->> it was Jhandu balm..
    In Dabangg-2 , its Fevicol..
    What’s next?
    Bonefix..Iodex..Harpic? :P

a 80 yr old director had the guts to make an Original Film in his style, even in today’s generation… and these young directors just do copy-paste..

    Talaash MOVIE
there’s no need of police force if ghost come n solve cases.. u just have to worry about ur personal life mr. perfectionist.. :P
this movie literally borrows scenes from “INSOMNIA”, “SIXTH SENSE” and other hollywood films.. mrs. director -> copy if u have to but not in the guise of originality.. !!
and worst P.J. -> Ram goppal verma can make 10 horror films in a year .. and aamir khan took 3 years.. whoaaa… hats off.. :P :D

Heya sure Kareena told Aamir where he could find her, but did she tell him the exact spot where her body was buried ?
Aamir and Rani watch Golmaal-3 in theater which also had Kareena in the movie. Wherez perfectionist :D

  • some questions about Talaash, if someone could answer ( I loved the film and enjoyed watching it.. but, still there’re some points which are):

    1) that lady, the neighbor, whom Aamir called her: pagal.. the one who contacts the spirits.. how did she know that Aamir and his wife had a son who died and his name was: Karan?!! they were new neighbors and she never met them before!

    2) How was she capable of calling the spirits without a weegie board? there was only one candle on the table!!

    3) In the last scenes of the movie.. where Aamir digs to find the corpse.. How did he know that it was a graveyard?! there was no sign or anything in that area indicating that it was a graveyard!!

these r the negative points in this film, overall it was a good film for anyone who loves some mystery , crime, investigation films

  • kya film h …yaar mujhe GURUDUTT k classic’s moviea ki yaad dila di!!!!
brilliant, enthusiastic & salty SCREENPLAY with 0.99 clear CAMERA(cinematography)# it is an movie which will remain in library of top 10 remembered movie of india!!!

  • Amir khan is real superstar of bollywood and no anybody actor can compare with him. I liked Mann and Akele Hum Akele Tum most of your all movie

  • Bollywood movies all have similar stories these days which mostly climax at someone’s wedding or someone hanging off the cliff which the crowd thinks is really funny. It’s so shocking what indian crowd likes. I watched the movies Dabang2 recently and is full of songs which mostly has adulterous meanings and lots of over exaggerated actions. The story was similar to lot of other movies, good cop, bad things happen to him then revenge, he is about to die at the end and then gets up after 100 hard punch and kicks and still going strong. I really feel sorry for directors like Mumbai Meri Jaan and other meaning full movies like Talash, unfortunately, the crowed wants something else. I do have friends all over the world and to their surprised, this was very good movie for bollywood and I’m glad I referred this name to them. One of them had a very good line, “The khan who doesn’t care about looks and body is a real actor and can act in any movie industry” Thankyou Amir.

  • Talaash goes down as one of the worst movie ever made…. Even Thoda pyaar Thoda magic was better than this crapshit!
