Sultan was rock-solid on Monday at the box office, as the film has collected around 17 crore (as per very early estimates) on its first weekday. The collections are very good after a solid extended weekend.
Single-screen business remained very strong on Monday, but the film was down at multiplexes – both because of a drop in occupancy and ticket prices coming down to weekday rates.
The 6th weekday of Sultan would be higher than the opening day business of all films this year – except FAN (which did 19.2 crore on a partial holiday).
Sultan has collected Rs 197-198 crore in its first 6 days at the box office, just falling short of the 200 crore mark. It’ll cross 200 by the end of its first week (7 days) and complete its first extended week with collections of around 235 crore.
The Salman Khan starrer will become the 2nd highest Eid grosser in the second weekend – beating films like Chennai Express (227 crore) and Kick (233 crore).

Saw Sultan. I will not write reviews about it, but will reflect on the audience reaction of it compared to Bajrangi and also collections.
Sultan was loved by kids, while Bajrangi connected equally with adults and the kids. Sultan is comparatively more of sports, as the last 30 minutes is completely about the sporting action.
I came out of the movie, and kids were talking how they enjoyed the movie. While some adults were saying it was good, but not on BB level, because the emotional angle of BB i felt had more greater depth and connected wider – as it was between two countries, its people and families, all in one, while in Sultan it is about two individuals.
The positive feeling that i got was that people were talking about Aamir’s Dangal after the movie. So, i feel this movie has just set up the stage for Dangal, and there is no doubt that Dangal will break records.
People didn’t appreciate Brothers, another sports film, but Sultan got lots of appreciation, and this will infact help Dangal more. So, in short, though the haters wanted to twist the scenario by stating that Salman copied Aamir’s idea, the plot is now completely in favour of Aamir due to Salman’s Sultan.
Coming back now to the collection. I am not sure, and am not good at these things, but i feel Sultan will end up around 275 to 300 cr max.
The wom for Bajrangi was simply awesome, and if not for Bahubali, it would have crossed 350 cr easily. That movie affected BB by around 10 to 15% collection overall.
If a movie does not have an excellent wom, as BB, but is still good, then it should have holiday periods, like Diwali or Xmas to sustain it in the long run. This is where PK scored. On a scale of 10, I would rate the wom for BB as 9, while that of PK at 7 (because the guys who said BB was great, said PK was okay and not upto 3i levels). However, Xmas is one of the most lucrative holiday period for boxoffice after Diwali, and hence it collected around 340 cr. This is not the case with Eid.
The coming weekdays are normal working days, except the weekends, and hence it will take a beating on the collections during weekdays.
Further, the release of Grand Masti this week. The last installment collected around 100 cr, so you can expect the young crowd to throng the theatres, denting the collecting further for Sultan.
All in all, Sultan has broken many records, and if people are willing to support it more, then it could be magic that Sultan’s collections goes above 300 crs.
The viewers are God, so the only magic can be created by them….Salman and Aamir are only actors…….while we are mere fans….lolz.
