Sultan completes record-breaking extended week

Sultan has just completed a record-breaking extended week at the box office. The film has gone past all previous Eid releases, excluding Kick and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

Sultan also became the highest grosser of the year, beating the business of ‘The Jungle Book’ in 6 days and smashing the record of the previous highest Hindi grosser by a margin of Rs 100 crore in just 9 days. In other words, Sultan will collect about the same as the previous highest grosser (Airlift) and second highest grosser (Housefull 3) in 10 days.

Even the first Monday (6th day) collections of Sultan was higher than the opening day collections of all films this year, except FAN (which released on a partial holiday). The Monday footfalls was higher than the opening day of FAN too.

The only small disappointment came in the form of the weekday trend. The drops were higher than expected, but only when compared to the high level of business during the weekend. With a better trend, the film would’ve had a chance of crossing the lifetime collections of Bajrangi  Bhaijaan.

That aside, Sultan is one of the biggest grossers of all time and the 13th blockbuster of Salman Khan’s career. He also has 6 back-to-back blockbusters during Eid (only exception being 2013, when he didn’t have a release).

The hold on Friday morning is good for Sultan. The film remains the first choice at multiplexes. The occupancy was higher than this week’s release Great Grand Masti, which has opened very poorly at multiplexes. Business on Saturday and Sunday will decide where Sultan finishes.

  • It needs at least ₹35cr in it’s second weekend to cross ₹300cr mark at domestic box-office otherwise there will be no chance.

  • The film has gone past all previous Eid releases, excluding Kick and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

    It’s including not excluding

  • Sultan success has to be lauded and not compared … this is what good movie watch experience is all about – larger than life hero, awesome heroine, chart buster songs, able support cast and fantastic direction. Sultan score in all counts.

The movie will pick up hugely on saturday and sunday to score a 30 cr + weekend to close wk 2 at around 280cr …. and then the countdown to 300cr begins

  • Sultan should easily pass through Dhoom 3 collection, however, 300crs should be should touch and go..

  • Wow heading towards 300 cr
Trend is good… Again All time blockbuster for salman… If this film cross 300 cr Then dangal will easily cross 300 cr due to Content ….

  • Sultan will definitely break BB,s record come next Sunday…Saturdays n Sundays will prove to be goldmine for Sultan becoz GGM n Ice age unfortunately won’t pose any serious threat to Sultan,s rule in the box office…Youth n family audiences will definitely opt for Sultan becoz of the excellent storyline n word of mouth is very positive for Sultan…If Sultan continues to trend n hold well till Dhishoom hits the silver screens than PK,s record would be danger…Sultan will definitely rule the box office for another 2 to 3 weeks…Mark my words n upset is on the cards during the end of this month…Best wishes to the entire crew of Sultan as they continue thier Superb show with elan n aplomb 😃

  • If sultan gets a 42~45cŕ+ business on this weekend, then chances of crossing BB business must be possible. .even pk bizz.

  • Well records are meant to be broken.
When Ek Tha Tiger & Chennai Express collected such huge amount in week 1, people thought that it was totally impossible to beat that. But now it doesn’t seem so huge.
Even now the records of Sultan is looking impossible to beat, but all it will take is one film and, boooom– the records smashed away. Lets see which film will be that.

  • @indicine what about sultan trailer you tube views its became the most watched Bollywood trailer of all time with 27.7 million views
is it not deserve a article from you?

  • Sultan Sultan Salman !!!!!

GGM has got negative reviews all over. Never expected it.

The poster of next year’s Salman Eid bonanza is out too………Salmania Time !!!!

  • Very good collection .. But i guess it will struggle to cross 300 mrk. Still healthy life time. Now all eyes on MD and rustum to give more life to box office.

  • I honestly had no expectations for this film, but after watching i was completely stunned, all in all SULTAN is a very good film and it deserves all the success it is getting, hope it touches 300cr.

  • Great Achievement !!!!
“Sultan is one of the biggest grossers of all time and the 13th blockbuster of Salman Khan’s career. He also has 6 back-to-back blockbusters during Eid (only exception being 2013, when he didn’t have a release).”
This paragraph itself spokes about Bhai’s glory and his domination on EID

By the way @indicine, Kabir Khan’s TUBELIGHT’S logo has been arrived don’t know whether it was the official one or fan made ? Gave us some idea about it ??

  • Non actor. Have you ever heard the name of Sam Worthington? The movie in which he stars is the highest grossing movie of this planet EARTH. Yes, you heard it right. It is Avatar. It doesn’t make him a bigger superstar than Leonardo, Tom, Pacino, etc etc. Movies shouldn’t be made just to mint money.
