It’s a true sign of superstardom when the biggest of films from every language and industry, make way to give a ‘competition free’ release for Salman Khan’s Sultan.
In May this year, Shah Rukh Khan decided not to release his film during Eid – a date which was first occupied by his keenly-awaited film ‘Raees’. (Read: Timeline of Raees vs Sultan clash)
Then it was Tamil superstar Rajnikanth’s turn. The makers of his upcoming film ‘Kabali’ were first targeting the Eid weekend, but later decided to release their film 10 days after Sultan.
Sources say, even Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh decided to release his own film ‘Sardaarji 2’ a week after ‘Udta Punjab’ because it would give his film a good 2 week run before ‘Sultan’ hits screens during Eid.
Now, Reliance Entertainment too have decided not to risk their Hollywood biggie – Steven Spielberg’s THE BFG – a film that was earlier scheduled for Eid, will now release on July 15.
Sultan will be the only choice for movie goers for more than week, at almost every movie theatre across India and the film is getting the widest release ever too.
Starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead, Sultan releases in theatres on July 6 2016.
As far as Raees is concerned , we all know it was a well planned strategy from YRF.
First, to schedule it’s release in April (so that there should be a gap of less than three months between FAN and Raees) and then , to promote it loosely so that it fails at B.O. and which would eventually create a psychological pressure on the makers of Raees.
And unfortunately, cheap YRF succeeded in both of it’s strategies.
Believe me or not, but that’s a sad truth.

So now, since all the odds are in the favor of Sultana (I mean the most lucrative release period, no clash at all, maximum number of screens, hiked ticket price and above all, the biggest megastar of the country), so it should acquire every existing record.
Right indicine ???? Or you have any excuse that it is not an “Out-to-Out” masala movie, Arjit’s song was removed and that move weakened the music, rape comment affected the collections etc…

-Festive release
-Maximum number of screens
-All time highest ticket price
-Ensure that there is no clash even with a movie starring Chunkey Pandey
and then your movie collects 200 cr and you boast about mega-stardom.
If this is called mega-stardom, Then I believe, one is good enough of being deprived from any kind of stardom .

Diljit is the biggest superstar in Punjab, Sardaar Ji 2 is going housefull all over.If Sardaar Ji 2 was released with Sultan, Sultan would have been a big flop as 75% screens are devoted to a Diljit movie everytime it releases. The BGF will not have such an impact in India, Kabali could have destroyed Sultan in South areas. Sallu has highest fanbase in mass centres and single screens which will give atleast 100 crores to Sultan. So competition is always there
Lol come on @Indicine ‘Kabali’ release date change was nothing to do with Sultan. Even if it had released with Sultan Kabali would have faced no competition from Sultan in the South where it makes 95% of its money doemstically. The craze for Kabali in the South is unparalleled and moreover I am sure the makers of Kabali are not expecting mammoth collections from the North either. Adding also the factor that Salman is not a huge crowd puller in the South. Even Bajrangi Bhaijaan struggled to cross the collections of movies like PK, 3 Idiots, HNY, Bang Bang in the South and PRDP was a virtual non-performer.
I can understand you hyping an event film like Sultan but please don’t try and make people believe each and every turn of events nearby Sultan release date is due to the presence of Sultan.
Where was Salman’s stardom at the time of Don vs Jaan-e-mann clash ? Then Srk alone defeated salman + akshay.

Yesterday my brother was arguing with me saying Hrithik roshan’s stardom is comparable with Salman Khan’s. And also on the fact that how can producers afford to pay more than 50 cr. to Hrithik.
I said him the same thing which this article is saying. Salman Khan can ensure a solo festive release every year or even two solo festive releases in the same year(2012 and 2015). But Hrithik can’t even ensure a solo release on Independence day. That’s the difference between a Superstar and a Megastar. Not just Hrithik but except Salman and Amir no one can ensure a solo festive release.
There is again a little difference between fear of Salman and fear of Amir.
Producers don’t want to clash with Amir because they fear if Amir’s film turns out to be excelent then their film will vanish after weekend.
On the other hand they don’t clash with Salman because they fear their film will vanish even before it’s release.

Not stardom, it’s superstardom..but I personally am not sure that kabali postpone because of sultan…it has a complete different market because language of both these films is different…Sultan won’t be that huge in South India..you guys had only said that SRK,Aamir and Hrithik are top crowd pullers in southern markets so I don’t think sutan would have made any impact on Kabali in South India…
Coming to Raees, I still wonder whether Shahrukh Khan wanted to postpone Raees or not? Since postponement,he hasn’t commented about the film and also the media just received a letter with his signature on him..he is one of the biggest extroverts in film industry so it’s hard to digest that he has remained silent for a long time…who decided to postpone?
