SRK film to get more screens this Diwali

Below is an interesting article from Mumbai Mirror of the pre-release battle between SRK’s next and Son of Sardar. Apparently, the Chopra’s have already signed all screens that will be playing Ek Tha Tiger.

Wonder how Ajay Devgn will react? Since he has always been firm on a Diwali release, we doubt the film will be postponed. Even if he wants to, December is packed with biggies.

Would be unfortunate if Son of Sardar loses out due to lack of screen-space.

This Diwali, Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan will lock horns at the box office. Thanks to the makers of Son Of Sardar and Yash Chopra’s directorial venture who scheduled the release of their films on November 14. And though it is still a few months before the firecrackers go off, Mirror has learnt that the war has already begun.

In fact, if sources are to be believed, Khan has already won half the battle. The latest buzz in the trade is that distributors were told to book the same number of screens for Yash Chopra’s film as for Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger. In simple words, more than half the theatres will be playing SRK’s film, leaving Devgn little room at the ticket window.

Akshaye Rathi a fourth generation exhibitor and distributor tweeted, “Yashji’s film has already been signed for all the cinemas across India which is playing Ek Tha Tiger. That takes away the best ones!”

A source from a leading theatre in the city agreed, “When there are stars like SRK and Ajay involved, that too when it’s a Diwali release, it becomes a tough call for us. When we are asked to give one film as many shows as Salman’s solo release, we are in a fix. Because here we have two big stars and two big films to showcase. However, SRK and Yashji’s film will take more shows both in multiplexes and single screen theatres.”

Another multiplex chain head told us, “Firstly, being a SRK-Yashji combo, one can safely assume maximum shows will go to that film. It will approximately be a 70:30 ratio. And it is a practice that is followed by few producers when they have big releases back to back.”

Trade expert Taran Adarsh said, “When big films release on the same date, there is always a battle to get the maximum space. But at the same time, two films can easily co-exist. However, if producers have already had a word with distributors in terms of blocking slots in advance, things may be different. Here, if Yashji’s film gets as many shows as Ek Tha Tiger – a solo Eid release, then be it in India or overseas, Ajay’s film even as big as this one, will have to fight a harder battle.”

When contacted, YRF’s spokesperson said, “YRF has been dealing with the same theatre owners through our distribution offices over the last 40 years and all of them would be more than happy to screen a Yash Chopra film, coming after a gap of eight years, without any reservation.”

Devgn, however, remained unavailable for comment.

  • That was d best the so called king kan do.. Running away 4m competition even from Ajay, wot if there were Salman or Aamir.. If u r king u have to prove it.. Tiger is the new ruler

  • @tiger flops, hey man u got it all wrong, srk did not run away infact he won half the battle before releasing the trailer man, u can see how powerfull king khan is. And in a few days a news would come son of sardar being postponed HAHAHAHA.

@don, srk has set the highest weekend record( first 3 days) and higest worldwide record where ra.one and don2 is standing at the top. Now I don’t care if u don’t agree with worldwide record, but both movies have broken bodyguard record and ra.one and don2 will be released in other countries as well so the collections will be even more. And other thing BOI worldwide collection is not updated.

Well srk dosent need to set records, his only thing is to entertain audience and that’s what he has been doing every time.

  • @TILU Nebhani

hahahahahahahaha ur comments r not making any sense coz srk was/is/will be king of b-town .

and u must add ur information that SRK never suffer but his competitors are ones who suffers always.

Ajay devgan is nothing infront of king khan whether he gets maximum number of screens or not.

  • @don

I think you don’t know any thing about records , but i will try to remember very few srk records

    1) the highest single day collection in bollywood history.

    2) the highest first week collection(first 3 days)

    3) highest weekend collection of non festival release

    4) srk also was having the highest grossers in history before 3idiots i.e RBNDJ , OSO etc

Srk always stats that he doesn’t care number game.

  • SRK getting benifit fron salman’s “EK THA TIGER”………now SRK fans bow dowm to salman……..

  • even if ajays film is better, srks film will obviously be more hit because:
    srk star power
    katrina kaif star power
    anushka sharma star power
    yash chopra comeback
    yrf banner
    huge hype
srk haters (guilty pleasure-they will want to watch it to downgrade it after comparing with otheir fav stars films)

reasons why ajays film isnt as big as srks:
ajay is not as popular as srk
sonakshi isnt even half as popular as katrina and is still not as hit as anushka either
ashwini dhir is no mtch for yash chopra the legend
yrf is the biggest banner so no chance of any competition
wont have as much as hype as srks because of all the listed reasons
ajay doesnt have as many as haters that will want to watch it to compare

im not taking srks side but i think srks film will be more hit due to all the reasons. personally, i like both stras equally and wish them the best but its a fact. i really wish ajay pre pones his film for an october release, pre diwali puja wont affect a film if it is good which ajays film for surely will be. if its releases lets say on 26 october or 2 november, the film cou;d easily become one of the biggest hits wiohtout any competition

  • SON OF SARDAR would b blockbuster even if they get 25% screen space
Might be the oppening collection less but distributor would realise that there is no gaine to keep more shows for sek’s films as budhdddha is budddha and people do sollute to the rising sun

  • Hi guys
My pick for top 5 Superstar are as follow
    1.Aamir,Salman,SRK (Alphabeti.)
    4.Hrithik 5.Akshay
Great respect for Ajay but sorry he is not a superstar

Khans are the ultimate No 1 from last 20 years.I dont think anyone is better than someone.
Records are pretty simillar BO wise & largest fan following also.Though sometimes Hrthik Overshadow them but he is not as consistence as them yet but akshay a very little bit because
    he is highly inconsistent.
It doesnt need be your fav. superstar to be @ no 1 all the time.Srk has his times(still can comes) ,Amir post Gajni and now Salman having his moment.
I am placing hirthik @ 4 BO records and Popularity wise &he can still grow because he has age but he need to do more films. But I cant believe it that Aksahy fan will say that He is no 1 hows that?????????????
He is a superstar I like him but he has a very poor script choice.I put Hrithik above him because HR has 5 BB and Akshay has only 2 in his 20 years career 2 including welcome & RR.He has to prove himself for a longer time And for fan following go and serch net, look in twitter and ask your neighbours HR will be ahead of him.

One should agree or not Khans era is gonna end after 5 years or so.Every beautiful things comes to end No matter how good they are.ANd we all know that Ranbir is the next superstar as he is very talented not all overhyped .One can delays Ranbirs stardom thats HR because he will be still there fact that he looks still young and all knows about his stardom & Acting talents but sooner or later RK will be Superstar but only after Hrithik.
This is going a golden era in bollywood

Though I dont like kachara movies like Ready,BG,RR,Ra.one.Singham,BB
I will say that Ajay should get equal screens on release for SOS.

But we should stop watching all South kind of masala movies no matter who acts in that movies.
seriously who likes that not think as a crazy fan.Great that Its adding the commercial value but If that wont stop than bollywood is gonna end sooner or later as Hollywood movies started to dominating Indian BO.

Watch- Ek tha Tiger boycott – Dabang 2
Watch Srk’s next boycott – Chennai Express

    Any thing else……..

  • SRK’s experimental films like MNIK and Ra One crossed 200 crs worldwide. And now he’s doing a film in which he is always perfect i.e romance.SRK’s films like DDLJ,KKHH,Veer Zaara,KHNH,RNBJ, etc all are blockbusters. And this Diwali, history gonna repeat itself when SRK’s next will win again’s SOS and it crosses 150 crs lifetime easily only in india and Worldwide it will be above 280 crs.Mark my words.

  • @ranv

Well said man but in my opinion khans at least have another decade in their hands to controll BO.

The other point you missed is chenai express , this movie is not south remake or south style movie , it is king khans type of movies.

  • I think Srk fan’s forgot that its not Srk vs Ajay, its Srk vs Salman.
Srk single film not able to touch Ready’s collections(125 crs).Due Yashji he got this first chance to manage to touch atleast Ready(forget Dabangg & BG & I am not talking about ETT yet).
But if there will be 70:30 ratio in screens,SOS will damage 30% business of Srk film & after two weeks Talaash will release.
So sorry Srk no chance reach Salman’s lowest one for this time.

  • @Manoj duniya pyar pe tika hai,aur KING KHAN hum logo ko pyar karne ka aur pyar jatane ka naya naya tarika sikhaya hai.aur agle kai saalon tak sikhata rahega.

  • 2008 rab ne banadi jodi ke baad srk king khan ne koi full romantic movie nahi kiya hai.ab 4 saal baad king khan full romantic roll me aa raha hai.woh bhi yash chopra ke saath.Record to tutega hi record banega bhi.saath hi KING KHAN ke dushmano ka dil bhi tutega.

  • SRK, are you forgtn Year 2000 kaho na pyar hai n YRF big banner Mohabattein released same year.. Both are romantic films. But kaho na pyar hai is winner n biggest hit, Blockbuster of 2000 n mohabattein is only hit. Then don’t call.. King khan ki Romantic filmo ko takkar dena muskil hi nahi na munkin hai.

  • srk, sallu fans sucks both these goin to be flop….akki is undisputed king and he is younger thn khans…..

  • @Husseinou

You may be right about khans but slowly age is showing on their face so a decade will be a very tough task for them.People choice keep changes according to times. They are losing their girls fan following due to that fact specially among teens & teen girls. If they will continue than that will be great for khan fans.

and about Chennai Express That will be an original, but dont you know who Rohit Shetty is.He is just providing a different angle to Bollywood movie which will look like a south masala remake or
remix of 3,4 South movies.I don’t like to see flying cars & buses in that movie which has already been clarified by Shetty.I dont like Shetty kind of movies.Yeah but It will be a big grosser.
