Special 26 vs Baby: Box Office Collection Comparison

Akshay Kumar and Neeraj Pandey’s Special 26 and Baby were both expected to do well at the box office, as both were genuinely good films. While 2013 release Special 26 was affected by the release of a massy film like ‘ABCD – Anybody Can Dance’, Baby was competing against a small release like ‘Dolly Ki Doli’.

Unfortunately, Baby is expected to finish with lifetime collections of around 20% more than Special 26, even though the costs were much higher.

  • @arjun kapoor very funny. Tume sharam nahi athai. Baby ki review meh tumne Akshay ka tariff bohot kiya! Yaad aya ji? Joh insaan yeh kehsakta ki (most satisfying for me is highly talented akshay giving a power pack performance in such a solid movie). Abi tum bacha jaisa comment kyu dehra hai ji? Abi sushant neeraj ki akho meh Akshy sai aur bankable star hair? Kya yaar tum toh asal meh bacha hai. Chameleon! Taraas aata hai mujeh tumar comments se. Khabi toh solid decision lehna. ROFL!! Sushant itni jaaldi bankable star ho gaya. Sudaar ja confusionist sudar ja. Popular bane ki lite Mard ka analysis bohot bohot zaroori hai. Sad

  • @indicine it will be a good idea if u can identify chameleons here by looking at their disparity comments or totally senseless u-turn comments and then stop publishing them because d victim will look so stupid. just have a look at @arjun boney kapor comment here! such a hypocrite and childish talk! jai hind

  • Pre promotion is much important to get good collection at the boxoffice.
this is main point of baby ‘s failure.
hmesa kch na kch glti kr hi detach akki..
    pls don’t do that.………………

  • the fact that the 60% of comments in this article r reaction to my one simple comment shows how popular I m here.everybody just waits to read my comments.I m a superstar

  • @Arjun Kapoor Tablefan
it is not popularity.. This is called qtiyapa of a big fool……….. Will meet you on roy release when it will b disaster……….. Akki rocks..

  • This movie based on Muslim (terrorist) this movie have chance to banned on Pakistan and any other places people who ever Muslim in India not gng to watch this movie most of um…. How do they gng to make 300 cores,,,,,, i know

  • What people don’t realize is that every film has its own budget. Special 26 was made on a budget of 42 crores and it earned around 75 crores. The satellite rights, overseas rights and music rights together must have fetched another 15 – 20 crores thus helping the film fetch 100 crores in total, which was a great return on investment. Even in case of Baby, there was low promotion just like Special 26 and it was made for about 55 crores. If lifetime turns out to be 80 – 85 crores, and the rights and all fetches 20-25 crores it will again be another great investment. This is not some Happy New Year or Dhoom 3 which are made for a total budget of 125 crores and have to fetch at least 170-180 crores to be on the safe zone, possibly more as so high investment demands a lot more in returns. For films like Holiday, which has been made on a budget of around 60-70 crores, the return was around 115 crores.

What Akshay is doing is very smart. He is avoiding clashes with the Khans and others. He is running his own parallel industry with small budget films and mid-budget films. The returns are healthy and possibly within the first week the investment is returned. He is also co-producing most of his films, naturally the profits are his salary. This is what he has been doing for a long time. Even on movies like Tees Maar Khan, the case was the same and UTV boss himself clarified that the film was a profitable venture. Its Entertainment budget was also around 40-45 crores and the domestic box office return alone was 72 crores. This is exactly the case why Akshay always has a number of producers waiting to sign him up and he is able to give 4-5 films every year. His films are hardly flops as he works within a tight budget and delivers safe returns on investment. So you can understand that other than one OUATIM 2 or Joker, his films are hits from this standpoint. But common viewers and Akki fans don’t understand this and they think that his films are flopping. Add to that the biased media reports and you get biased view.

  • BABY is an excellent movie!. It is expected to reach 100 crore. There is still time. Bhag Milkha Bhaag took a long time to reach 100 crore mark. SPECIAL 26 stopped at around 70 crore, because it was a story based on real incident and Akshay Kumar played the role of thief. Despite it did a good business. BABY didn’t have song sequences or any romantic/intimate scenes. Moreover, the film banned in Pakistan and the overseas business not good reveals that Indian movies are mostly watched by Indians and Asian Muslims who are not turning up as they turn up for Khan movies. A movie like PK is well taken because Hindus have turned in largely to watch the movie. But these people don’t even have a look at Hindu actors like Akshay Kumar or Ajay Devgun or Sunny Deol. On the contrary, muslims never prefer any actor from other community. We have to think on this, otherwise one day we, the HINDUs won’t exist in this country.

  • A good movie on terrorism! Akshay Kumar Rocks! Film is made on secular outlooks. SPECIAL 26 in 2013, HOLIDAY in 2014, BABY in 2015……….opening is good for the actor. But an actor releasing 3 movies or even 5 movies in a single calendar year must find it difficult to deliver a huge hit like PK, DHOOM 3 or HNY etc.
