One of India’s leading e-commerce websites, Snapdeal, has distanced itself from its brand ambassador Aamir Khan’s comments on ‘intolerance’ that led to his wife ‘wanting to leave the country’.
In a statement released to the media, Snapdeal called itself a proud Indian company and said it was neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by Aamir.
“Snapdeal is neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by Aamir Khan in his personal capacity. Snapdeal is a proud Indian company built by passionate young Indians focused on building an inclusive digital India. Everyday we are positively impacting thousands of small businesses and millions of consumers in India. We will continue towards our mission of creating one million successful online entrepreneurs in India” the statement read.
Thousands of people have not only been uninstalling Snapdeal from their mobile devices, but also asking their family and friends to do so. In fact, the Snapdeal app on the Google Play Store has received nearly 30,000 negative reviews in the last 48 hours, with users dropping comments asking Snapdeal to remove Aamir as the brand ambassador.

WTF noone is having any problem with Aamir’s statement, except BJP. They know he is very popular and hugely respected and any statement from him about growing intolerance can severely damage their reputation.

Boycotting Snapdeal App is one of the funniest non-violent protests I have ever seen. I was against Aamir’s statement as well which reflected wrong image of our country, even if his comment was directed towards his non-preferred political party. Worst thing was he used his wife’s name for making a point. Not watching his movies is one thing, but boycotting the brands endorsed by him doesn’t make any sense.
I actually feel bad for Snapdeal, as I’m sure they may have lost their many, many customers for doing nothing. I wish Aamir never said that. Just because you have freedom of speech, it doesn’t mean you should defame your nation or start abusing people by using ‘freedom of speech’ card.
I hope Aamir comes out in public and makes things clear.
These Whatsapp, twitter passages are created by none other than BJP Bhakts. Other than these people and Aamir’s haters I dont see anyone having an issue with what Aamir said.
I received such messages in some of my Whatsapp college group asking people to boycott his movies. He failed miserably. Noone cared about his msg. Some even supported him. Later I came to know the guy who sent the message was related to some BJP group.
This is the reality. Some negative parties using communication mediums like whatsapp, facebook, twitter etc. to bully celebrities to keep quiet.
Proud of brave stars like Aamir and Shahrukh have the courage to speak up without caring about such cheap bullying methods.
