Shahid Kapoor’s Shaandaar has collected Rs 13.1 crore on its opening day at the box office, which is slightly below par for a film released on a national holiday.
For films like ‘Shandaar’, the advantage of a holiday tends to be around the 30% mark, which means the film would have collected around 9 crore on a normal Friday. The collections falling slight below expectations could also be because of the fact that not everyone, especially at smaller centres (where the film has under performed) were aware of its Thursday release. Most people are well aware that new films release on Friday, but Thursday releases do tend to have a slight impact on business of films like ‘Shaandaar’.
The costs are on the higher side, so the trend over the extended weekend will be crucial for ‘Shaandaar’ to recover costs. Reports from theatres is mixed, so it remains to be seen how well the film performs in the long run.
‘Shandaar’ is the biggest opener for both Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, beating the opening business of R… Rajkumar and 2 States.

So, in a way R.Rajkumar still remains Shahid Kapoor’s highest opener i.e. 10 crore (Considering non-holiday factor) and some people call Prabhu Deva a bad director!
I have noticed in this year, most of the films which got good to very good weekend, failed to touch 100 cr figure even with official figures.
Baby,brothers,SIB,Welcome back etc.
Whether films has better trend in weekend but failed to show in weekdays. So it is tough nowadays to predict lifetime collection of films just from the weekend trends.
If Shandaar became below avg/flop than among Karan’s students only Varun will have success with all films in his first 3 years.

@sultan the reason to not clash with Shandaar was the pre diwali weekdays coming ahead, which are not good for movie business.
collection doesnot matter, the only fact is it should recover its cost, people are feeling entertained and enjoying a lot. i dont know why people are creating lots of negativity all around instead praising filmmakers…

Hopefully The Film starts to trend huge Friday onwards.shahid has a chance to prove it against the flow /criticize of the film,though many one said it’s vikas’s fault.
