Sarkar Raj was expected to open big, especially since the Indian Premiere League, which had affected almost all movies (except Jannat) big time, finally ended last week. But unfortunately, Sarkar Raj opened to average collections on Friday afternoon but box office collections picked up during the later part of the day. The collections on single screens especially at smaller centres were 25 – 35% which is below average to disappointing.
At the multiplexes the movie did much better during the evening and night shows with 100% collections at all the major centres. The strong word of mouth and good reports seems to have helped the Bachchan starrer.
The Box office opening of Sarkar Raj was affected due to several reasons
– Ram Gopal Varma’s disastrous Aag and Darling last year. The audience seemed to have lost trust in the maker of classics like Satya and Company.
– Abhishek Bachchan going through a lean patch with flops in the form of the much-hyped Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag.
– Heavy rains around the country.
But with good reviews pouring in, Saturday and Sunday could see a change in the fortunes of Sarkar Raj. The movie is expected to do extremely well over the week end. Hopefully, it will as Sarkar Raj is very important for both RGV and the Bachchans!
