In an interview with Bombay Times, ‘Kaabil’ director Sanjay Gupta has spoken about the clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s next film ‘Raees’. The filmmaker is still hopeful that the clash, which a section of the trade is calling ‘suicidal’, could still be averted.
“I wouldn’t say I am in denial but I think the clash could still be averted. In all fairness, Rakeshji (Roshan) did announce the release date first. SRK is a man of principle, a man of his word, he is a Pathan. I can’t fathom SRK stepping on someone’s toes”
“I don’t know if the films will come on the same day or not but I definitely think they shouldn’t. If someone else had announced a film before him, there’s no way in hell that Rakeshji would release his film on the same date. That is the respect we need to accord one another” he said.
Gupta also said the lead star of his film, Hrithik Roshan, is not competing with SRK. He added that someone like a SRK should be looking at the ‘300 crore mark’ for his films and competing with actors of his generation like Salman and Aamir.
“Hrithik is 10 years younger than Shah Rukh. So I don’t see this as a competition. Shah Rukh’s competition are Salman and Aamir. Both the films (Raees and Kaabil) won’t do more than Rs 150 crore in a week because we have a Rs 300 crore box office window at best. When Salman releases a film solo, he gets Rs 300 crore. Shah Rukh should be looking at getting Rs 300 crore for his film and I’m sure he is looking at that possibility. I don’t understand why he would restrict the business of his own film. This clash is also going to be detrimental to them” he said.
Raees and Kaabil are both scheduled to hit theatres on 26 January 2017.

i agree with him but thier are no dates available for srk for half of the year… still i love both king khan and hrithik but we cant do anything about it.. as almost one year has gone.. now srk cant shift raees to 2018 … lets see what happens.. still i m with king khans raees… kaabil is same revenge story what we have seen before like ek villain, gajini…. i m sorry hrithikians if i hurted your feelings but the truth is truth… lets hope for the best

Its good to avert the clash especially for Rae’s since budget is around 110 CR’s it has to score around 130 to 140 to call it a safe film n on d other hand kaabils budget is less it can be hit at 90 to 100 CR’s.if they still want clash den no chance for either of these two films to cross airlifts 130 CR’s.
Raees should postpone in favour of both films because it’s 100% sure that it’s gonna turn out to be a monster hit with or without clash…

Yeah Badshaho was announced for Republic day but Ajay devgn was bg with Sivaay till Oct.
In same time , Bhusan Kumar ( producer of Badshao ) was asked b4 announcing Kaabil for Jan 26.
When Badshaho was announced there was news floating it wont release on Jan 26 as Ajay will be bg wid Shivaay ( Director , producer , Actor ) .

Still Badshao Shooting has not started . News is that again its postponed for May 12 .
Excel is responsible for all this . Sept 9 ( EID Weekend ) was best date for Raees. Every1 who have watched Trailer of Raees is saying its a complete EID Material.
Excel wanted to release Baar Baar Dekho featuring two non actors ( SID & KAT ).
Another debacle on its way for Excel after BBD nd Rock on 2.
Even at best case scenario Raees cant do 140+ nd costs are on higher side .

I Like RAEES in EID 2017.Because RAEES can earn more buisness in EID than Jan 26.
For the people blabbering about Baadshaho booked first…well yes Baadshaho makers said their plan was to come on Jan 26th. But they hadn’t even started the shoot that time. Kaabil release date was confirmed by Rakesh Roshan when the shoot was already underway and after they decided it will be shot in 3 months time. Baadshaho shoot only started 2 months back. So there is nothing wrong in taking a slot which was ‘tentatively’ taken by another movie. But in Raees’ case they also announced the same date when Kaabil had already confirmed the release date and shoot was 70% done…..so how can you say FilmKraft and Excel did the same thing?
