After the success of Wanted, Ready and Bodyguard, Salman Khan has been labeled as someone who only acts in remakes of south Indian hits. He has been accused of playing it safe, by doing films that have already proven to be hugely successful at the ticket-window.
“King of Remakes”, “Remake Khan” are names that are often used to bring him down. But a quick glance at some of the films that he has done in the last 5 years, reveals a different story.

To sum it up, Salman has been a part of 3 remakes in the last 5 years, 2 films inspired by Hollywood movies and 13 films with original scripts. What’s more, none of his upcoming films are remakes.
Also, it’s not Salman alone who has appeared in remakes. Have a look!
- Shahrukh Khan – Don was a remake of an Amitabh Bachchan classic with the same title. The SRK produced Billu, which featured the actor in an extended special appearance, was also a Malayalam remake.
- Aamir Khan – One of Aamir’s biggest hits in the last decade – Ghajini – was a Tamil remake.
- Akshay Kumar – Has appeared in 3 remakes in the last 5 years – Khatta Meetha, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Heyy Babyy. His upcoming film Rowdy Rathore too is a remake of Telugu hit Vikramarkudu.
- Hrithik Roshan – Who once vowed to never be a part of remakes, will be seen in Agneepath which again is an official remake of an Amitabh Bachchan classic with the same title. To be fair to Hrithik, the story seems to have been changed and the treatment is very different too!
- Ajay Devgan – One of Ajay’s biggest solo-hits too is a remake – Singham!
Remakes DO NOT guarantee success and attributing Salman’s success to remakes alone is unfair! Do tell us what you think, in the comments section below.
Update: A few are asking about Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick. Agreed that Kick is a remake of a Telugu film. But it’s not 100% confirmed yet. Shirish Kunder was supposed to direct it, but he has now backed out. Unconfirmed reports say, Surender Reddy who directed the Telugu version will be directing the Hindi one too.
Still, it’s unfair to single-out Salman Khan, when half the industry is remaking films. Rowdy Rathore, Agneepath, Ek Deewana Tha, Bol Bachchan, Son of Sardar, Players etc are all remakes.
First ask choor khan to cross 125 crs and then we will talk.

@Raheel! What do you mean by “but evry film of salman with original script is flop xcpt dabang.” For how many years have you been watching Bollywood movie? Or Salman started his career in 2009. Are MPK, HAHK, HDDCS, Mujse Shaadi Karogi and Partner remakes, for instances? Grow up man! Don’t think stereotypically.
I wonder why some very good south films can’t be remade in hindi. South films are only shown only in a region of India and it means these films are not watched by largest segment of Indian audiences. Only bollywood represents Indian films in overseas. At a time when people have started remaking hindi movies in hindi again which were already watched by Hindi audiences (e.g. Devdas, Don, RGV Ki Aag, Agneepath), why can’t south films (So, if they are good) be remade in Hindi which were not watched by the great portion of Indian and overseas audiences. To be honest, remaking only south films is not good either! For your information, Salman’s three upcoming films EK THA TIGER, SHER KHAN, DABANGG 2 will all be original. SHER KHAN will be the biggest ever jungle adventure film of Bollywood. Stop criticizing others. Salman is the perfect family entertainer. All of Salman’s films will be blockbusters like his previous films were if he does proper marketing so that the news of his films reaches his loyal fan base and family audiences in domestic market and abroad.

Well, here is the answer for SRK fans. There is a Big Difference in Remake and Copy. To remake a film you have to buy Copy Rights with millions of Rupees and if you want to copy some scenes or a short story than you can do it for FREE ! Tell me now who is the copy cat.
By writing this, I don’t want to offend anyone and would like them to stop thinking stereotypically and think out of the box. In fact, every actor remakes.

SRK remade DEVDAS & made it a SOLO HIT. boring movie. bad direction from SLB. Bad writing. SRK carried the film with steller performance along with Madhuri. Only reason why Devdas is a HIT because SRK & Music.
DON remade of DON. Badly directed by overrated Farhan. Bad boring dull screenplay. very slow pace. DON-2006 still a solid HIT because of SRKs movie saving “stylish” performance. SRKs jungli billi scene when he first sees Roma. The ENDING. SRK’s action scenes made DON-2006 a solid SOLO HIT.
Both SLB & Farhan has clearly stated. Without SRK, both movies will FLOP disasterly.

I definitely want to talk sense but read all the posts from other SRK fans and tell me if there is any sense there at all. My post was a reply to them. Salman and SRk both have their own spaces in the film industry. SRk has given a lot of hits in his career and so did Salman but in the last 2 years Salman has achieved something which no other actor has ever achieved in the history of cinema by giving 3 125 cr plus movies in a Year. Similarly SRk has done same Overseas, his movies are big hits overseas even if in India they are just hits. Bring up a list of top 10 grossers in India and you will find atleast half of the movies from Salman. Do the same thing for overseas and you will find more than half the movies from SRK.

@Salman Rocks: My point is that..its not about the money..salman have lots of money..its about the work what he does..my favorite film of salman is “saajan”, Love,phir milenge, andaz apna apna..which are really good films..but now a days look what kind of things he does…jumping from a train’s roof and getting in to the warehouse directly..is that you call a appreciative work..?? mark my words…these things does not stays more than 3 to 4 years, it has also happened with akshay kumar when he gave 5 straight blockbuster and suddenly everyone was saying that singh is king..real king..kind of stuffs you know it..but of course in a lower level as far the money concerns…in salman’s case its just the money which is bigger…and bhool bhulayia was much better film than dabangg,ready or bodyguard..and i know you know that..!! and in achievement case..just see sharukh’s filmography of 20 years and salman’s filmography of 20 years…sharukh is way ahead of salman as far making money is concern..!! thnks boss..!! salman really rocks atleast for me…and so do sharukh …!!

Dude check your facts again. Salman khan has more hits, blockbusters and all time blockbusters than SRK. What do you have to say about RA1. Ok bodyguard is a very bad mvoie still it got 150 crs just because of Salman Khan power. I would rather watch Bodyguard than Ra1 because he tried to make a western movie and fell flat on his face. You mentioned just couple of scenes from bodyguard but the whole RA1 was full of stupid scenes. Dude Listen they both are in this industry from over 20 years..salman is here since 1988 which is 23 years. They both have seen ups and downs and now one is the king of Indian Box Office and the other is King of Overseas Box Office. I only talk on facts and this is the fact. Salman had been giving hits and block busters and all time blockbusters since 1989 and you can not talk about just his last 5 or 6 years. He only made 3 real remakes in his 23 years of film industry and you guys only look at those 3 blockbusters. SRk also made 3 remakes don, devdas and billu but we are not calling him remake khan, are we. Infact dude Salman has worked with the maximum number of first time director, actresses and banners on the other hand SRk only stuck to YashRaj and Dharma. There is no denying that these 2 directors have given even Abhishek Bachan his only hits. They both are first rated top directors and SRk had been playing safe the 20 years of his career. whenever he tried different he failed badly like Asoka and many other movies.
