After the success of Wanted, Ready and Bodyguard, Salman Khan has been labeled as someone who only acts in remakes of south Indian hits. He has been accused of playing it safe, by doing films that have already proven to be hugely successful at the ticket-window.
“King of Remakes”, “Remake Khan” are names that are often used to bring him down. But a quick glance at some of the films that he has done in the last 5 years, reveals a different story.

To sum it up, Salman has been a part of 3 remakes in the last 5 years, 2 films inspired by Hollywood movies and 13 films with original scripts. What’s more, none of his upcoming films are remakes.
Also, it’s not Salman alone who has appeared in remakes. Have a look!
- Shahrukh Khan – Don was a remake of an Amitabh Bachchan classic with the same title. The SRK produced Billu, which featured the actor in an extended special appearance, was also a Malayalam remake.
- Aamir Khan – One of Aamir’s biggest hits in the last decade – Ghajini – was a Tamil remake.
- Akshay Kumar – Has appeared in 3 remakes in the last 5 years – Khatta Meetha, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Heyy Babyy. His upcoming film Rowdy Rathore too is a remake of Telugu hit Vikramarkudu.
- Hrithik Roshan – Who once vowed to never be a part of remakes, will be seen in Agneepath which again is an official remake of an Amitabh Bachchan classic with the same title. To be fair to Hrithik, the story seems to have been changed and the treatment is very different too!
- Ajay Devgan – One of Ajay’s biggest solo-hits too is a remake – Singham!

Update: A few are asking about Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick. Agreed that Kick is a remake of a Telugu film. But it’s not 100% confirmed yet. Shirish Kunder was supposed to direct it, but he has now backed out. Unconfirmed reports say, Surender Reddy who directed the Telugu version will be directing the Hindi one too.
Still, it’s unfair to single-out Salman Khan, when half the industry is remaking films. Rowdy Rathore, Agneepath, Ek Deewana Tha, Bol Bachchan, Son of Sardar, Players etc are all remakes.
matter fact all bolywood is a just remake… and do now also is a remake of American movies Basha,bazigaar,dil ko bagal hei,duplicate amd many more…
Salman is realy re-make khan!!!!!!! but his remake movies are super hit & orignal scripted movies are flop.

difference between salman and other actors remaking film is that others did remake movie even wen they had success in original script… but for salman its not lyk tat..almost 95% of his movies with original script are disasters in last 8 years… so he started remaking superhit movies.. a wise move to enter the top 5…if he is a superstar he should prove to bollywood by delivering 3 blockbusters with original script..
Salman was remake south movies now in south there was remake of salman ATBB. Dabangg.and i m sure that after realise of Ek tha tiager and Dabangg2 they was also them.Becoz both movies become ATBB.

@khan you said salman was flop from 2000-2008. he came with tere naam in 2002. 2001 Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega. 2004 mujhe say shaadi karogi 2nd highest grosses of that year. 2005 no entry highest grosser of that year 2007 maine pyar kuan kia and partner. he has given numerous hits every years is just that guys like you blinded by th 18 century romantic movies of srk. ithought my name khan is going to be special but again same pathetic love story
yes 90% of salmans hit films r south remakes eg: juduwa, biwi no.1, terenaam. ready, bodyguard, wanted…. etc etc he earned a lot from bollywood and now he should give something in return by doing something different like sharukh tried for ra one mst say ra one is not up to the mark but a;teast he tried

He is “remake khan” only because the reason that his last 3 bb films are copied scripts , if those movies would hv flopped than nobody here would have been discussing on this topic..shahrukh ,hrithik fans will target him untill he get a big flop or they find another reason to have a go at him…

its ok if south film with great message been remaked like i heard telugu movie kanchana is being remade in bollywood its good coz it got strong message trust me but salman is doing remake just for blockbuster isliye he is deserved to be called remake khan

@aki maine pyar kiya, hum aapke hai kaun, karan arjun, saajan, hum dil de chuke sanam wee hits rest of them were flops , listen karan arjun, saajan, hum dil de chuke sanam were hits coz of sharukh, sanjay dutt, ajay devgan and ,maine pyar kiya was a hit coz of director remember salman was new comer then and hum aapke hain kaun was a hit coz of madhuri in shot the only original film which ran coz of salman was dabangg but that also i think it was coz of superhit songs
Have been reading some comments here. I dont hve any comments on Salman since I like Aamir and Hrithik. But some of the comments here by SRK fans are funny.
To be fair bollywood has a long list of Plagiarism. Srk’s one of the biggest hits in the 90’s Baazigar was a copy of hollywood film “A kiss before Dying”. Lets get back to his latest release Don 2 which was mostly made by borrowing ideas from Steven Soderberg “Oceans 11” and MI series. SRK according to me is a good actor definitely better than Salman, but Salman’s personality is what makes him so appealing to the regular Cinegoer. Srk should do more movies like Chak de which establishes him as a good actor lyk Aamir who is not a part of the rat race but is more concerned about dishing out quality films to the audience whether as an actor or as a producer.

DISASTER. partner was hit due to return of CHICHI. DABANG was a big “0” if u literally see its script, story line-up, even acting was over :P may be this can help u a bit. and also one more thing, except WANTED, Salman didint do any extraordinary work in neither READY nor BODYGUARD, the only success was due to huge fan following and that too blind mad for him…. For ur Info, Ghajini which amir did, it was a challanging role unlike of salman’s, amir made all the justice to it, and really acted well so he got the appreciation as he deserved….
most of the bollywood films r remakes of hollywood or either got inspired even lot of aamir’ films r remakes of hollywood film and most important thing is don 2 is not a remake its just got inspred from some hollywood movies i have seen both ocean eleven and MI series
@imran r u talking about adtya chopra, karan johar, farah khan then listen all these directors got fame coz of sharukh remember yash chopra was not as successful before DDLG , yash johar doesnt had even i hit before KKCH, farah khan was just chereographer before directing mai hoo na
@imran yes u can say sharukh mostly do films with friends but the truth is his friends r getting success coz of him though ra one os not a big hit still anubav sinha became hot director in bollywood that is sharukh effect
If salman remake khan it does not matter to waste of time about it…..if other able to do remake movies like SRK, AAMIR, JOHN etc. of-course they may. but remake karke hit maarna it is most difficult.

Out of Salman’s listed non- remake films,only Dabanng has been a clean box office hit.Partner too was a remake of Wil Smith’s English movie “The Hitch”.All other mentioned non-remakes (eg.London dreams,Salaam-E-Ishq,heroes,god tussi great ho,Yuvraaj) failed to become hits.I doubt if he started doing remakes because he wanted t develop a stability in the industry once he used t hav & lost during past few years due t back t back flops.After doing remakes he again established his position in Bollywood.So for me if is still remake Khan.Only if his upcoming movies(Ek tha tiger,Sher Khan) become hits He can prove that he’s not remake Khan.
All the Other mentioned actors hav delivered remake as well as non-remake hits.(Eg.Ra.One,Rab ne bana di jodi,My name is Khan,chak de india,om shanti om,Krish,Dhoom 2,Zindagi na milegi,Golmaal,3 idiots,Fanna,Singh is King,Welcome,hey baby etc.)

Salman is doing remakes & its not invalid,because he is paying to the original writers.
But what about Srk?
There is a long list of his unofficial remakes.
He stoled story of Ra.One & original writer of that story filed court case agains him,everyone knows it.

there is a huge difference between remake of a film and getting inspired by an idea of a film, salman ko dabangg(fearless) khan bulata hai then why is he afraid of taking risk
