Salman Khan will not have to be present in the High Court for his bail hearing tomorrow. Supreme Court lawyer and a former Solicitor General of India, Harish Salve had framed his appeal for interim bail yesterday. Salve will also be appearing in court on behalf of the actor tomorrow when his interim bail ends.
Salman was sentenced to five years in jail in the 2002 hit-and-run case which had gripped the nation’s attention and sparked a fierce debate on social media. The popular actor, who has starred in some of Bollywood’s most successful films, however, escaped being sent to jail after the Bombay high court granted him interim bail till May 8, barely a few hours after the sessions court handed him the five-year term.
Sessions court judge DW Deshpande said all the charges against the star, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, had been proved, 12 years after the actor drove into a Mumbai pavement killing a homeless man after a night out drinking. The judge said 49-year-old Khan was driving the car at the time of the accident and the defence’s contention that his driver Ashok Singh was at the wheel was not probable.

This case is getting huge publicity because it involves Salman Khan . I can’t say whether i am happy or not regarding the verdict but i just want truth to prevail . The Honourable Judge of Sessions Court has said that Salman is guilty . From 9th May there will be 4 weeks vacations in the Mumbai High Court and it will repoen in June . I don’t think that 5 years is a huge punishment as Salman fans are saying because one person died, four were injured, Salman was drunk, he did not have license, he used his money and fame to push the case forward, the case has been postponed since 13 years and he even did not attend many court hearings before giving excuses . For Salman fans this verdict is unfair simply because they love Salman but they don’t want Salman to be punished for his crime . On the other hand for many people this verdict is absolutely correct because they want the law to be equal for everybody . In India there are more than 120 CR people and all these people have their own opinions but i feel let the Judge, the Law and the Judiciary decide what is Right and Wrong …………..

@nipun, yes if salman is proven guilty he should obey the law but if he’s innocent there’s no way why he shouldn’t appeal to higher courts. the problem is he’s giving a lot back to the society and the verdict doesn’t help anyone, not even the victims. 5 years is too harsh compared to many others got for the same case.he could be sentenced for 2-3 years and be allowed to compensate. and please don’t bring in that he’s a celebrity that’s why the judgement delayed. there are thousands of hit and run cases which are not even on trial.this has been glorified because of his celebrity status.even if he’s a celebrity if our judiciary is competent they could have proved it long ago.it is their incompetence that dragged the case.if they have enough proofs why not convict him in the first trial? the prosecution examined a wrong set of witness delaying it by extra three years. That’s not salman’s fault. if anything, it’s the judiciary’s incompetence. now they want to set an example using salman because he’s a celebrity.how does being a celebrity helps here?

Clearly alot of illiterates missed alot schooling as they still cannot differentiate between a crime and an accident. Salman was involved in a horrific n fatal car accident which was partially due to his negligence. This was not a crime as there was no intention to lose control of his vehicle n subsequently kill bystanders/ footpath dwellers.
5 yrs for negligence is too harsh when there are greater crimes like chameleons (nipun n some buddhawale) out there or here who are intending to manipulate public opinion with their crappy reviews n fake support for some floppistan revolution. Crimes are those that are intended to cause harm to any individual or grievance to society such as the daily actions of the above mentioned chameleons. Punish them as they do no good to society.
