Through social media websites like Twitter and Facebook, Salman Khan fans have managed to catch the attention of both the mainstream media, industry and people who matter. The request is to confer Salman Khan with the National Award for ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.
Now, veteran actress Raakhee Gulzar, who famously played Shahrukh and Salman’s mother in ‘Karan Arjun’, has also come out in support of the three main men behind ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’; script-writer Vijayendra Prasad, director Kabir Khan and lead star Salman.
Celebrating her 68th birthday, Raakhee said that she was bowled over by the message of Indo-Pak relationship that ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ portrays in a brilliant way.
“This is Salman’s best performance and by far his most important film to date. The film’s message of hope, peace and friendship across the border filled my heart with joy. I haven’t felt so good watching a film for a very long time. For the first time I felt there is hope of peace between the two countries.”
Talking about Salman, Raakhee, who was last seen as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s mother in ‘Dil Ka Rishta’ (2003), said “He excels at playing innocent characters. In the last 20 minutes of Bodyguard he was taken for a ride by the two women. In Bajrangi Bhaijaan again he is a naïve man pushed around by everyone. As a fellow-actor I could see Salman was not faking any of the emotions. He felt every minute of his role. The team would’ve been in serious trouble if they had gone wrong with the politics or religion of the theme. The writer Vijeyendra Prasad, the director Kabir Khan and Salman should get National awards.”
Raakhee was considered to be one of the most beautiful and talented actresses of her time. With 16 Filmfare nominations, she holds the record for being the most ‘nominated’ actresses ever.

As to srk in cdi and MNIK was good, no doubts, but not outstanding. Nothing great. I would say any other actor could have done justice to it.
But i would say No one, and that means “No one” in hindi films during that time could have pulled out the role of Chulbul Pandey the way in which Salman did it. May be Amitabh sir would have done that if he was his younger self. Apart from him i don’t think anyone has the attitude, aura, punch and machismo that the role required.
However, I don’t want Salman to win any award. He is entertaining that is more than enough.

Those who think National award is pure — (1) When Kirron Kher won the award in the Best Actress category for Bengali film ‘Bariwali’, it was alleged that her voice for the Bengali film was dubbed by a Bengali actress, Rita Koiral whereas the producer of the film Anupam Kher had filled the nomination form claiming that its Kirron’s original voice.
Rita Koiral claimed that since she had dubbed for Kirron’s character in the film, it made her an equal claimant to the award. However, Kirron refuted the charges claiming she spent hours for her dialogue delivery following which the award remained with Kirron herself.
(2) This was a major controversy as it led to the resignation of certain jury members. The awards won by Raveena Tandon and Anil Kapoor, for ‘Daman’ and ‘Pukar’ respectively, did not go down with the jury members due to alleged discrepancies in the system.
Director Pradip Kishen, along with two other jury members quit the Feature Film Jury stating that a “cynical political cartel in the Jury bulldozed its way as it had pre-decided many of the awards”.
Furthermore, Raveena’s uncle Macmohan was also a part of the jury which only added fuel to fire.
(3) Celebrated director Adoor Gopalakrishnan had expressed his dissatisfaction over Ajay Devgn being given the National Award for Best Actor as the jury comprised Prakash Jha. According to Gopalakrishnan, it was immoral and improper for Jha to head the jury as he was directing Devgn in his latest flick ‘Gangaajal’.
(4) When Saif Ali Khan was awarded the Best Actor, there were more who found this ridiculous than those who thought it was different and well-deserved.Most thought that the others nominated were much more deserving than Saif who put up an ‘average performance’.
Rumour mills were abuzz with some going to the extent of stating that Mom Sharmila Tagore, who was the chairperson of the Censor Board of India influenced the National Films Awards jury to help her son bag the prestigious award.
(5) One of the jury members of the 53rd National Film Awards for 2005, Sahyamli Banerjee Dev levelled allegations in a court petition that the awards were fixed. In her petition, she alleged that ‘Black’ did not qualify for the best film award and was an adaptation of the English feature film “The Miracle Worker” of 1962.
As a result, the awards were postponed by the Delhi High Court for quite a long time and were announced only in 2007 after a delay of two years
