At the beginning of the year, three major clashes were scheduled to take place – Raees vs Sultan (Eid), Rustom vs Mohenjo Daro (Independence Day weekend) and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil vs Shivaay (Diwali). While the makers of Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees decided to back out of the clash, allowing Salman Khan to get a solo release during Eid, the two other clashes are certain to take place.
With less than 3 days to go for the release of Hrithik Roshan and Ashutosh Gowarikar’s keenly-awaited Mohenjo Daro and Akshay Kumar’s 3rd film of the year ‘Rustom’, the industry is gearing up for a clash between two of its most bankable superstars.

Im an akshay fan who voted for rustom obvio. What I was surprised to see was 200 more people voted for rustom than mohenjo daro. For a movie of niche genre. That is an incredible amount of buzz. If it ia good quality wise with 2 extra holidays i wnt be surprised if we get the movie crossing airlift. Cmon indicine u were being rude when u said 80 crore is going to be a target.

Mohenjo daro will rock
My own analysis about these two movies…
Pros of Mohenjodaro at box office :-
1) Hrithik coming back after 2 years and this is akshay’s 3rd film so people will be more excited for mohenjodaro i.e HR fans as well as Neutral fans !!
2) Rustom looks like a murder thriller so have less appeal to the family audience while mohenjodaro is much like a family film and as there are holidays like Independence day and Raksha bandhan so family will come out to watch the film.
3) Ashutosh gowarikar is a great director so he knows how to handle big movies like mohenjodaro while rustom is directed by Tinu suresh desai who directed 1920 london which was pretty much average film and those who were talking about Neeraj pandey guys he is not the director or screenplay writer he is just a producer like he produced Total siyappa and the film carrying his name is just marketing nothing else..
Pros of Rustom :-
1) Trailer found more appreciaton than mohenjodaro which helped it getting a upper hand over mohenjo daro.
2) Akki is damn good in this genre so thats an added advantage to the film and he is in good form recently.
3) Music is good with two or more good songs in the album.
I am following bollywood and the collection of the movies for about 5 years so have pretty much experience about the prediction..So being practical and realistic about the opening as it is releasing on a normal day, Mohenjodaro will open around 15-16 cr nett in 2300 screens in India and Rustom will open similar to Airlift although Airlift got more screens i.e around 12-13cr nett from 2000 screens.
Thats just a prediction and it may be more or less depending on word of mouth as it comes to play after the first show. Rest depends on how good or bad the films are.
Mohenjodaro –
If good, 140-150cr
If average, 95-100cr
If worst, 70-80cr.
Rustom –
If good, 85-90cr
If average, 65-70cr
If worst, 50-55cr.
These are mere assumptions and box office is uncertain.

@indicine I read that mohenjodaro already recovered around 60cr from the satelite, music and other rights.. the total budget is about 115cr.. so is it really a risky movie for the makers.. any idea how much did Rustom recover from satelite rights?
