Vishal Bhardwaj’s has postponed the release of his upcoming film ‘Rangoon’ from the ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ weekend to February next year. The film will now release in theatres on Feb 24 2017.
Rangoon stars Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan in the lead. The film is set in the 1940s amidst the turmoil of India’s independence struggle and will feature some of the important historical events.
“I am very happy with what we have achieved during the shooting of Rangoon. This film is closest to my heart and I want to make sure this is seen as my best work. Given that it’s Shahid’s birthday on 25th February, there is no better way to celebrate” Vishal said in a statement.
“Seeing the confidence and excitement in the team of ‘Rangoon’, looks like we have much to expect in early 2017” he added.
Vishal has previously directed Shahid Kapoor in films like ‘Kaminey’ and ‘Haider’. Rangoon is a casting coup with actors like Shahid, Kangana and Saif coming together. It was under Vishal’s direction that Saif delivered his career-best performance in ‘Omkara’.
I know it is postponed cause of post a production and I have mixed feelings happy as 30sept is not a good date as it doesn’t have any holiday nor open weeks also pre-diwali period and moharam is also there where Muslims stay away from movie so it was not a good date and wanted November release for Rangoon but but yeah Vishal sir take ur time and give us a masterpiece and Feb is much better release date than September considering all these factors except that some people have exam otherwise other factors are good. I am highly excited for UdtaPunjab and will be waiting for Rangoon.

Point is not that. Agreed that every movie deserves solo release, but Rustom makers have made a film in 1 month, with may be 1/5th budget of MJ and also they announced their release date almost an year later to MJ.
Also Mohenjo marks return of hrithik after, is in the making since 2 years, also is the costliest film of 2016, even costlier than Dangal nd Sultan, so if so much time and money has been invested it should the max no of screens. Akshay comes 4 times in a year he can manage any other date as well. That’s why saying it.
