Vishal Bhardwaj’s has postponed the release of his upcoming film ‘Rangoon’ from the ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ weekend to February next year. The film will now release in theatres on Feb 24 2017.
Rangoon stars Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan in the lead. The film is set in the 1940s amidst the turmoil of India’s independence struggle and will feature some of the important historical events.
“I am very happy with what we have achieved during the shooting of Rangoon. This film is closest to my heart and I want to make sure this is seen as my best work. Given that it’s Shahid’s birthday on 25th February, there is no better way to celebrate” Vishal said in a statement.
“Seeing the confidence and excitement in the team of ‘Rangoon’, looks like we have much to expect in early 2017” he added.
Vishal has previously directed Shahid Kapoor in films like ‘Kaminey’ and ‘Haider’. Rangoon is a casting coup with actors like Shahid, Kangana and Saif coming together. It was under Vishal’s direction that Saif delivered his career-best performance in ‘Omkara’.
Rangoon is looking good …..So now Ruston should postponed to gandhi jayanti weekend……otherwise toh Rustom would not be able to cross 50 crore mark due to the clash with mohenjodaro….
Sad to hear this as I really was expecting it, but maybe Raees may release on Gandhi Jayanti now :)

Visual Bhardwaj is a genius and had made exceptional movies like Maqbool, Omkara, Kaminey and Haider . The combo of Vishal and Shahid is terrific to say the least . He has been a fearless filmmaker and lost his plot with 7 Khoon Maaf and Matru but he made a strong turnaround with Haider . He is also a brilliant music director and a good singer . He is a multi talented person and our industry needs more directors Iike him who makes movies for passion and not just for Box Office Collections . Rangoon is a really important movie for Shahid, Saif and Kangana . So Saif and Kangana will not be seen in any movie this year . If Rangoon becomes a Big Hit it will be the Best Birthday Gift for SK . Vishal Sir has extracted extraordinary performances from Shahid and Saif before . In Kaminey Shahid played the double role of Guddu and Charlie . Guddu has a stammering problem and is a decent guy . Charlie has a lisp problem and had grey shades . In Haider Shahid got the golden opportunity to play the character of Prince Hamlet adapted as Haider . This has to be the Best Performance of Shahid in his career . Saif has always been famous for Rom com, suave personality and speaking in fluent English but in Omkara he played the role of Langda Tyagi which was an out and out negative character . He is not able to walk properly, eats tobacco, uses abusive language and speaks Bhojpuri/Khariboli . He outclassed an actor like Ajay Devgn with his impeccable performance . So both Shahid and Saif have given their career best performances with Vishal Sir . Saif is going through the worst phase of his career . The failure of Shaandaar has badly affected SK and he will be looking to bounce back with UP . So Shahid, Saif and Kangana all need Rangoon to be a Solid Hit . Will Shahid and Vishal Sir be third time lucky ? We will know in Feb 2017 !!!!!!!!
Sad!!! September 30 was good release date. But unfortunately we have to wait for next year.
If Akshay and SRK have any brains any one of them should take this date of 30th September.
Akshay can get release Rustom on this weekend and give MohenjoDaro a solo release which it highly deserves. Also not to forget Akshay’s disastrous record at independence day weekend with films like Brother and OUATIM2. Rustom will surely earn much in an open weekend than it rather would on a clash with a MohenjoDaro in Inpendence day weekend.
Also if Akshay isn’t keen SRK should get Raees. He will have all free weeks before Diwali releases.
Lets see who makes the smart move.

Gandhi Jayanti is just another normal weekend since 2nd Oct falls on Sunday .
As 2nd October falls on Sunday, it would not have gotten that extra holiday advantage..so I think no one would be keen to prepone or postpone their movie release on this weekend although Rangoon has shifted..
According to jaadoians Rustom can’t collect more than 50 if it clashes with mjd …. well then one question is needed to be asked to them….????
Have they seen rustom?? ??? Then how can they say it won’t collect more than 50..!!!

What yar. Rangoon have to be release on 30 september. There is 4 open weeks till adhm and shivya release on 28th oct. It looks like a great movie. So, collection will have been huge. But sadely we have to wait for next year till 24th feb. But it will be great treat to shahid for his 36th birthday.

Its a golden opportunity for Raees makers to grab that date as their release date and they should announce it soon. Its better not to clash with a big budget action film of Hrithik on Republic wknd
They also have another option,that is to postpone their Baar Baar dekho to Gandhi jhayanthi wknd and Release Raees on Bakrid 2016 bcz of more hollydays

This year udta punjab next year rangoon. Both will be master piece for shahid kapoor. Two consuctive best actor award for him. Two filmfare and one national award including several others awards.
i think Vishal Bhardwaj sees something in Shahid Kapoor. he knows that shahid is a talented actor
From Rustom’s point of view I still think a clash with Mohenjodaro is better than releasing it on 30th Sept as Gandhi jayanti falls on Sunday so it’s just another normal weekend.
And Rustom is not a big film.Even with a solo release it will get a BABY/airlift kind of 2300-2500scrns release.
So for Rustom makers,a clash with Mohenjodaro seems more beneficial. Even with clash it will get 2000-2200scrns plus holiday advantage of Independence day and Rakshabandhan.
Also if two films of two big actors are clashing both will get good buzz in media.
From Mohenjodaro’s point of view,Rustom should move.Theirs is a big budget movie and a clash with Rustom means that MJo will certainly lose out on some business.
KAMINEY and HAIDER are amaizing films so i guess RANGOON will be another content driven film and am expecting good perfomances from Shahid and Kangana.
@SK, If Rustom has the right content, then it can go onto collect more than mohenjodaro and Rustom is looking very good…Stop saying Mohenjo deserves a solo release because in that case, every movie deserves a solo release..It’s fault of mohenjo makers that they used a high budget, not fault of rustom makers…
Another good release date for Raees or Rustom. Solo release as well as extended Gandhi Jayanti weekend. If it was up to me, Raees would release on September 9th (Eid) and Rustom on September 30th. They would be much better options than clashing with 1 or 2 big movies.
Rangoon is looking good, makers should take as much time as required to ensure it is made properly.

outmd 2013 independence release (sequel of highly successfull film) collected 58 crores…….brothers 2015 independence release (also starring siddhartha nd jaqueline ,backed by dharma production) collected 70 crores ………so how can rustom can collect like 120,140 ,160crores(akshay fan predicting) with the clash of mohenjodaro????……i can bet even with solo release it would not collect more than 70 crores……….nd mohenjodaro with clash would collect around 24 crores in opening day nd without clash around 30……no one is saying like 35,40,45 crores opening day………….
But why are postponing it for so long?
Rangoon is the most awaited movie for me this year. But we have to wait for long period till next year. Vishal sir is brilliant director same as shahid and kangna as brilliant actor and actress respectively. Saif also a good actor. I am huge fan of vishal sir movie. All his movie are superb expect mkbkm. Eagerly waiting for this one.
for me Best release date for Rustom is 9th September Akshay sir’s birthday…..
24th Feb is nt a gud rls date for a big budget movie like Rangoon bcs that’s a dull periods of exams though hoping for best bcs I know it’s going to be a masterpiece

If Both Movies carry decent WOM(Krrish 3, Dhoom 3),
Mohenjodaro: 180-210 crores
Rustom: 70-90 crores
If Both carry average WOM(Bang Bang)
Mohenjodaro: 150-180
Rustom: 70-75 crores
If both carry negative WOM(Brothers, Fan),
Mohenjodaro: 100-130 crores
Rustom: 40-60 crores
If both carry extremely negative WOM(Bombay Velvet , Himmatwala)
Mohenjodaro: 80-90 crores
