Since last evening, several readers have been asking us about Rajesh Khanna’s 15 back-to-back hits. Actually, he had about 16 consecutive hits, one film in between (The Train) was an above average grosser.
His hit spree started in 1969 and went on till 1971-72. In those 3-4 years, Khanna appeared in about 17 films (not including special appearances) and all of them were successful. A record that still stands unbroken today, more than 4 decades and several superstars later!

With due respect to the talented actors of Indian Cinema who have enriched the celluloid with great acting Rajesh Khanna has even been praised by the legendary actor Amitabh Bachhan. Let us appreciate that Kaka started an age of Blockbuster hindi movies. The craze that was generated by Kaka was really new to Hindi cinema. The acting of that talented actor needs to be appreciated with a different backdrop. As we have verities in acting brought to us by Kaka, Amitabh, Dhamendra, SRK, Salman, Akshaya Kumar, Hrithik and Amir so is the rich heritage of Indian cinema manifested. Let us not compare them. But enjoy their acting talents on the screen.

Rajesh was pure magic, charisma, and amazing natural acting chops. To explain Rajesh’s magic is to explain a full moon and and a sky full of stars to a blind man. It can’t be done. Unfortunately the brighter the light the sooner the burn out. Amithabh has had longevity and SARK has , I don’t what he has he is a terrible over actor, but no one and no one will duplicate Rajesh’s magic. Hollywood Valentino and Bollywood had Rajesh Hanna.

RajeshKhanna was is & shall always remain the only God this film industry has ever had or will ever have. Post 17 consecutive hits (incl of two very special appearances) he had Daag, Namak Haram in1973 Roti , Aap ki Madam, Premnagar & Ajnabi in 1974 Premkahani in 1975 afterwards Karm Amardeep Dhanwan Dard Maqsad Rajput Thodisi Bewafaai Ashanti later in the following years he almost became No.1 again in 1983 with Avtaar Souten & Agar Tum Na Hote All in all he has given maximum hits as a solo hero & also acted maximum as a solo hero which no other hero can match.The difference between him & all the other stars put together is he had devotees whereas all others only fans.In terms of % it can be very easily said that it was just not the frenzy alone but also the sheer size of the population % sway that RajeshKhanna held from 1970 to 75 that makes him the incomparable God.There was no PRO publicity marketing no computers Internet even TV had not arrived.No foreign tours. He was the product the package the advertisement the brand the Co itself never in the history will this happen again
All time block buyers can’t be compared because every year the dynamics change the cost goes up so do the distribution right s & the no of theatres increase & as a result more screens available for release hence more turnover if u really want to compare erawise then u shud take the Gold value of that particular period compare it with the money made by the film of a star at that period visa his Gold value of the star of another period & the money made there was an article in Mumbai Mirror or Mid-Day i don’t recollect which compared the films of 70’s 80’s 90’s & 2000 & it was pointed out if the hits were converted into Gold value of that particular period the most profitable stars were Dharmendra & RajeshKhanna
RajeshKhanna remained the highest paid star till 198p he shared the honours with Amitab Bachchan from 19i0 to 8u with Ba Hogan remember no actor ever bagged more than 8 or 9 films at a single point of time after a few hits in the year 1983 after three hits one a huge hit RajeshKhanna signed 12 films at one go all these are pointers of the impact RajeshKhanna had which always shall remain unmatched & incomparable
Three or four flops indicated by someone is something which happened after 17 hits in the year 1972 later half & early 1973 but then he gave Daag & Namak Haraam big hits in 1973
Rajesh khanna was only superstar who was ruled out on hearts such a way that wasn’t, isn’t and of course won’t be able to do the same. He was from heaven. A pleasant dream of God. Don’t dare to compare with anybody.
My favourite hero was Rajesh khanna. He had great looks. His acting was superb. He played a marvelous role in Andaaz, Katti Pattang, Roti, Saffar & Aap ki Kasam etc. Still, I miss my hero on the stage.

There should be no comparison. But hits by Rajesh Khanna had been mostly only him as the lead actor. While in case of Amitabh, generally it is multi starrer. In case of multi starrer you can’t give credit to just Amitabh. Kindly also consider the quality of movies between them and it’s good or bad impact on society. Largely Rajesh Khanna scores far more on this. Violence, Glorifying drinking, rawdiness, is what most of Amitabh movies are about.
And songs…. I believe no other star can ever even be compared with him for the great great lovely melodies Picturized on him.
