Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees continued to perform very well at the box office on Day 4. The growth in business on Saturday was excellent, with the film performing both at single-screens and multiplexes.
The trend is pretty good too, as massy films like Raees do not usually perform in circuits like Mysore and West Bengal – but it’s the box office pull of Shah Rukh Khan’s that is ensuring high occupancy both at smaller centres as well as high end multiplexes.
However, the clash is beginning to have an impact on the film at the box office as the other film ‘Kaabil’ is carrying excellent word-of-mouth. The audience that has to choose between the two films is dividing business and stopping Raees from reaching its true potential.
Even though Raees has got a much wider release, higher number of shows as well as screens that have higher seating capacity - there was demand for more tickets at select centres, especially during the late evening / night shows on Saturday.
Going forward, the key for Raees is going to be the family audience. The makers have realised this quite early that the families are not coming in enough numbers and maybe even choosing Kaabil instead, hence the promotional campaign has now shifted to ‘Raees with Family’ – a trend which SRK is going all out to promote.
For the first time in a very long time, the muslim section of the audience is coming out in very big numbers to watch the film. Raees has become a craze in muslim dominated areas, which also goes to show that this film was just about perfect for Eid. Even the Bakrid period was a better date and would’ve ensured much bigger collections. Too late, unfortunately.

The collections from BOI are estimates. They don’t have exact tracking of numbers. Check the collections of Kaabil in BOI site:

All the numbers are in zero’s which proves that they don’t have the exact figures of collections. Moreover they don’t track tamil & telugu versions of a movie. Tamil & Telugu versions make one crore a day each. In this case, there is a difference of 2-3 crore/day between the collections reported from BOI and producer. By adding the tamil/telugu versions the gap narrows down to 0.5 crores to 1 crores which I feel is the difference between correct figures and estimated figures.

All movies except D3 did not have a telugu/ tamil release. Looking at above differences, guess who is underestimating the numbers. One should also understand that a difference is a difference irrespective of it is 5 crores or 50 crores. The above table proves two things 1) All actors manipulate their figures. Or 2) BOI is a site which works overtime to make all actors look dishonest.
For me the Best and most respected clash was Jthj and Sos. Any movie could have easily earned 170 had it been solo release.
I don’t know who announced 1st but the collection race especially 2nd week was fascinating.
Shootout At Paglapur is tanking at the BO so media are blaming the lack of shows for such pathetically low collections…!

As far as future projects of SRK are concerned , I don’t think Rehnuma will be a mass friendly movie so most of it’s collection will be coming from plexes.
Whereas Anand L Rai movie might land into a clash because butthurt R Roshan will now be looking for that (Xmas) space.
Overall, Raees was a perfect chance for SRK to get that much needed blockbuster, but bad production decisions sabotaged it’s very existence.
