QnA: Will Ghayal Once Again affect Airlift at the box office?

Q. Do you think ‘Ghayal Once Again’ will have any effect on Airlift as the latter releases one week after ‘Ghayal Once Again’? And is that a sensible move by Sunny Deol to release their movie before Airlift which looks red hot and also to release the movie in January as the month has been really bad for box office. Ghayal will be an important film for Sunny. What’s your prediction for opening day of Ghayal? – Mike

A. Again, it doesn’t make sense to discuss the impact that ‘Ghayal Once Again’ can have on ‘Airlift’. Films starring Sunny Deol in the lead, haven’t performed well at the box office in recent times. His strong hold is the East Punjab circuit and a few other mass centres in the North. ‘Airlift’ on the other hand, is a completely different film from ‘Ghayal Once Again’ and holds very little appeal towards the masses. So even if ‘Ghayal’ carries incredible word-of-mouth, it’s unlikely to affect the business of ‘Airlift’. We expect ‘Ghayal’ to take a opening of around 6 crore. Final prediction will be made on the day before release.

Q. Which movie would emerge as the biggest blockbuster of 2016? Can Dangal make a new record of becoming the first movie to enter 400 crore club? Since Aamir is the only actor who have started 100, 200 and 300 crore club? Can Housefull 3 marks the first movie of Akshay Kumar to enter 200 crore club? – Harjot Gill

A. It’s unfair to give the entire credit of these 200 crore and 300 crore clubs to the lead actors. A superstar can only ensure a big initial at the box office, but taking the film into ‘record-grossing’ territory depends on several other factors. Genre for example is very important, because a film like Talaash can never be a record grosser. Films like Dhoom 3 have it easier because the franchise already has a following. But ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘PK’ were record grossers, because those films were a combination of good content, universally appealing genre, repeat-value and of course, a bankable superstar. So it’s way too early to talk about 400 crore grossers, when we do not even know if a film like ‘Dangal’ will appeal to every section of the audience.

Q. Would it be right to say that Rohit Shetty is perhaps the most successful director after Rajkumar Hirani in present times? – Challa

A. Rohit Shetty is one of the top directors in the industry, but there are several other directors too who have a fantastic box office record. Rajkumar Hirani tops the list, followed by Rakesh Roshan – both have directed 4 hugely successful films since 2000. Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar too have a fantastic track record, but they’ll be tested now, as they don’t have Shah Rukh’s backing, which ensures a ‘HIT’ even if the film isn’t liked. Karan Johar has directed ‘Student Of The Year’, which wasn’t a huge hit, but managed to recover costs. Kabir Khan, after Bajrangi Bhaijaan, is also one of the biggest directors in the industry.

  • @Sakshsm Sobti . Who the hell are you to tell me not to comment on a universal site? Are you nuts! Even though I am not Indian it does not mean I shall back off. No no way. If you don’t like to hear the truth then come to Tehran. Nobody is talking about who is bigger I am telling you that Ajay Devgon Srk Hritik Salman are well loved actors here. In India if you don’t call Aamir then it means you are a retard but every country has their own basis. Aamir does not feature in films like Salman or Srk that’s why I said he is not as popular as the other Khan brothers. Ajay even back in mid 90s was a huge and famous guy so as Akshay but there’s a guy call Sunil shetty was even more popular than akshay! You can’t change it . Be in your country a be an arrogant king while I stay in my country and will comment anytime I feel like. You should grow up boy.

  • @ASB, ha ha ha. Cant stop laughing at your stupidity. Who the hell are you to judge the popularity of megastar aamir khan? He is the biggest megastar of Bollywood. Get this in your mind you idiot. Aamir is the most popular khan and much more than srk and Salman. What have srk and salmandoje except 2 RS mindless crap movies with below average mindless story? Aamir always does different and intellectual cinema and he is class actor + megastar, so shut your mouth. He is founder of each and every club from 100 Cr club in India to 700 Cr club worldwide. All records belong to him. He had highest openers in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2013. So what are you even thinking yourself by writing such moronic comment. You are nobody to judge the popularity of biggest megastar aamir khan. He is much bigger than srk and Salman in every thing. 1000s like srk and Salman will come and go, but there is only 1 megastar aamir khan who will remain forever. No one can match aamir and no one can ever take his place.

  • @Dangal storm. I never said Aamir is not a big star. You don’t have to tell me I already know out of 3 khans Aamir is by far the more successful and record holder. I was trying to say it’s because he features in a movie once in 3-5 years he is not very popular among the youths here. Of course our parents like my mom is oneof the biggest fan of Aamir. It is his script choice and screening that allows other actors who release movies yearly to be more familiar with us . Don’t get me wrong. And mind your abusive comments. Had you read my comments with an open mind you wld know where I was going to.

  • what a shame on akki.He did 4 movies in 2015,but not a single movie cross 100crs.
But akki fans always dream about collecting 100 crs.
