Presidential award for Madhur Bhandarkar

Madhur Bhandarkar, well known for his movies based on real life incidents, has directed critically acclaimed films like Chandni Bar, Page 3, Corporate and Fashion. Almost all of them were well-awarded.

For his outstanding contribution to the film industry, Madhur was given the presidential award for Chandni Bar in 2001, and for Page 3 in 2005 by India’s 11th President Abdul Kalam.

A year later in 2006, Pratibha Patil awarded him the most prestigious National Award for Best Direction in Traffic signal.

Now, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has decided to felicitate Madhur with the Ganga Sharan Singh Award, to be presented by President Prathibha Patil at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday. Along with it, he will receive a certificate and a cheque of rupees one lakh.

The Ganga Sharan Singh Award which was established in 1989 is a literary honour given to writers for their outstanding work. Along with Madhur, Girish Karnad and Shyam Benegal will also be felicitated.
