Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has collected Rs 172.82 crore in its first extended week at the box office. The drop on its 8th day was huge (27%), but the film, as of 3PM on its 2nd Friday, has held on reasonably well at centres where it was performing well.
At premium multiplexes in metro cities, there has been a huge reduction in number of shows in Week 2 and even with limited shows, the occupancy in cities like Mumbai, Pune and New Delhi was down to 10% for the morning shows. In Mangalore, the film was running on a record 48 shows in 3 multiplexes and one single screen. In Week 2, that number has reduced to 11 shows at 3 multiplexes.
The overall drop on its 2nd Friday, as compared to 1st Thursday, is around 90%. The 9th day business will be in the 4-5 crore range.
The growth in business tomorrow (Saturday) will decide if PRDP will cross the 200 crore mark by the end of its 2nd week, or crawl its way into the 200 crore club in Week 3 – when Tamasha releases in theatres.
PRDP is ‘clean hit’ at the box office and should remain so when it ends its run. Chances of the film going on to be a ‘Super Hit’ look bleak, as the multiplex business of the film has been hugely disappointing.

The drop in collections is huge. Overall a disappointment and an embarrassment for Salman fans. They were expecting it to be an ATBB and 350 plus but now have to be content (forcefully) with only a Hit.
@ Indicine : If the movies budget is 180 cr and if it collects 200 cr should not it be above average rather than hit? Why are u not including Salmans fee (which was probably 50 cr) in the total budget of the movie even if it is covered through satellite earnings?
@ Dont u think it is an innovative way of reducing the total budget of the movie so that it looks to be a hit. E.g. a movie with 125 crore cost earning 200 cr will look better than a movie with 180 cr cost? Tomorrow a producer might not add marketing and promotion cost in the total budget and say that those costs are paid through so and so earning and in this way show reduced budget of the movie. I just do not buy this logic. Hoping u will provide a clarification in this regard.

@ For all Salman fans who are bragging that Dilwale will not beat PRDP collections, I am surprised by their attitude. They should not just expect PRDP to simply beat Dilwale but beat it with a large margin e.g. 50 to 75 cr as Dilwale is clashing with a strong movie. If u really feel that Salman is a bigger star then u should expect Dilwale to be beaten by a big margin. Let us see what margin are u guys expecting.
