On Sunday, a police case was filed against controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma for his objectionable tweets on Lord Ganesha.
The complaint was filed by lawyer Karuna Sagar at the Saroornagar police station in Cyberabad.
“We have registered a case against Varma. We will seek legal opinion before proceeding further in the case” inspector B. Naveen Reddy told reporters.
The complainant alleged that RGV has hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus by insulting Lord Ganesha through his series of tweets on his official handle @RGVZOOMIN.
The filmmaker was booked under four sections of the Indian Penal Code – sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 505 (statements conducing to public mischief), and 298 (hurting religious feelings).

@Ahmad lol, In Myanmar, last 1 and half year ago biggest war in myanmar between Myanmar and Muslim state like Rakhin, makkthila,Mandalay,pyinmma and even Yangon. So many Muslim die i thinks 3000 thousands die and 20 mosques destroy and fire. So what’s the problem? Twitter it’s a free platform for everybody and everyone has the right to ask and say what are his opinions! It’a a free world, and if this RGV doesn’t believe in lord Ganesha, I really don’t understand why people have a problem with that. Thank God I’m from Europe, and here we have the right to believe in what we want and we are free to say what we think.
And by the way… as I’ve heard on the news… Police should be doing something good, like putting behind the bars the rapist, to protect those women who are abused by their husbands, fathers, brothers… News from the entire world, everyday are talking about this on their programs, but it seem that in India is more important what people are posting on Twitter!
