On Sunday, a police case was filed against controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma for his objectionable tweets on Lord Ganesha.
The complaint was filed by lawyer Karuna Sagar at the Saroornagar police station in Cyberabad.
“We have registered a case against Varma. We will seek legal opinion before proceeding further in the case” inspector B. Naveen Reddy told reporters.
The complainant alleged that RGV has hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus by insulting Lord Ganesha through his series of tweets on his official handle @RGVZOOMIN.
The filmmaker was booked under four sections of the Indian Penal Code – sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 505 (statements conducing to public mischief), and 298 (hurting religious feelings).

Im not an atheist in it truest sense but open minded…! I love the cultural semi religious festivals that take place where I live n participate in many festivals bcoz I dont want my children to be excluded from such experiences…. Following religion blindly and following atheism blindly are very similar… I object to the notion that science teachers insist to young impressionable children in classrooms that they will be marked down if they do not buy into evolution wholeheartedly. In classrooms children must be encouraged to think openly n ask questions to broaden their horizon. Theres a way evolution should be taught n its to compare n contrast it with religious views about evolution n creations of universe.., children should be allowed to understand both sides of the arguement before being allowed to decide which belief they strongly believe in and want to adhere to. Religious teachers also must exercise liberal thinking n encourage freedom of thought but sadly we know that once children go to a temple or mosque church then they are more likely to be taught that only one religion is right n rest wrong… Theres nothing wrong with any teligious beliefs but I just wish religious leaders allowed their followers the right to learn about other beliefs, ideologies, theories of creation so that they can form their opinion as to what is best for them… Most followers are born into religion n that to me does not sit right…! My opinion only..,
PS What RGV said was immature bcoz he did it on a social platform when the imbecile could have easily gone to a local learning centre n seeked help in fulfilling his thirst for knowledge. He was just seeking publicity so should face consequences. Simple as.

Theres nothing wrong with doing what the ‘ancients’ did or peoples forefathers believed in millenniums ago…. @Syed,hindu population came down from 3rd to 4th because 1.we dont force anyone to take hinduism.2.we dont have any order in our shastras to increase the no. of hindus by doing anything such as freightening or forcing or giving birth to 10 or more children.

A muslim guy is making fun of hinduism and suggesting others to be a muslim! Seriously, they need to grow up man. I don’t believe in God. I do not agree with RGV. But I do not agree with this police complaint either. RGV has right to post anything on his own personal page. Those who disagree with him are free to unfollow him or block him. How are his views amounting to mischief? He has not named any other religion so how is he creating enmity in two groups?
Freedom of speech should be respected. RGV is not asking others to become atheists or imposing his views. Ignore him instead of giving him unnecessary attention.
