PK vs Bajrangi Bhaijaan: Box Office Collection Comparison

Note: This article is updated everyday. Read the ‘Update’ section just above the table for daily updates.

Salman Khan’s latest release ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ has taken a historic opening at the box office. The first 4-day collections has ensured that the Kabir Khan directed film is almost certain to go past Salman’s previous highest grosser ‘KICK’ (233 crore).

All eyes are now on the Top 2 highest grossers of Indian Cinema. Both Aamir Khan starrers, Dhoom 3 and PK.

The current comparison is between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. In 4 days, PK had collected Rs 116.43 crore and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is way ahead with net box office collections of Rs 129.65 crores.

However, PK had no holidays in its first 4 days (except Sunday), but Bajrangi Bhaijaan had the advantage of Eid holiday on Saturday and Monday too was a holiday in some parts of the country as Eid celebrations continued.

PK, on the other hand, had plenty of holidays starting with Christmas (7th day of release) and New Year. The days in between were holidays for many schools and offices. PK also had the advantage of 3 open weeks at the box office, before the release of Tevar in Week 4. Bajrangi Bhaijaan has two open weeks, after which Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam and Ritesh Deshmukh’s Bangistan are scheduled to hit screens.

The multiplex ticket prices of both films were about the same, although at select premium multiplexes the tickets of Bajrangi Bhaijaan were more expensive. Bajrangi Bhaijaan has performed much better than PK at single-screens, so the all India average ticket price of the Salman starrer is lower.

The day-wise comparison between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be interesting to follow in the next few days. We will be updating this page everyday. Bookmark it and visit us again to find out if Bajrangi Bhaijaan can become the highest grosser of all time.

Update 22 July: Bajrangi Bhaijaan continues to lead PK at the end of Day 5. While the Salman starrer has collected Rs 151.05 crore in 5 days, the industry’s highest grosser had collected Rs 135.79 crore. In fact, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has beaten PK on each of its first 5 days at the box office.

Update 23 July: For the first time since its release, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has fallen short of the Wednesday collections of Aamir Khan’s PK. The Rajkumar Hirani directed film held on strongly on Wednesday, showed a small growth in business on Thursday and then had plenty of holidays (Christmas, Sunday, New Year) in Week 2. Those holidays could eventually be the difference, even though Bajrangi Bhaijaan still leads PK by around Rs 14 crore at the end of Day 6.

Update 24 July: The battle for the highest grosser of all time is now intensifying as there is hardly any difference between Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK at the end of Week 1. To Salman and Kabir Khan’s credit, PK enjoyed a national holiday for Christmas on Day 7 of its release. But factors aside, Bajrangi Bhaijaan was leading by Rs 15 crore at the end of 5 days, but now the difference is just Rs 1.76 crore. PK is also the film that showed better trends in its first week at the box office. Bajrangi Bhaijaan now needs a record breaking second weekend to have any chance of becoming the all time highest grosser.

PK vs Bajrangi Bhaijaan has also become the most viewed page on our website this year. The tremendous interest is because Salman has never delivered the highest grosser of all time after ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ and the last time he featured in a film directed by Kabir Khan (Ek Tha Tiger), it fell just 3 crore short of ‘3 Idiots’, which was coincidentally an Aamir Khan – Rajkumar Hirani film!

Update 25 July: The difference between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is down to just Rs 36 lakhs! After Day 8, PK still had one holiday (New Year), one open week before the release of ‘Tevar’ and showed better trends. So it’s probably safe to say now that PK will remain the highest grosser of all time and Bajrangi Bhaijaan would be looking at becoming only the second 300 crore grosser.

Update 26 July: Box office is unpredictable and how! Until yesterday, the trends were suggesting that Bajrangi Bhaijaan would fall behind the total of PK, but the Saturday collections of the Salman Khan starrer has shocked and surprised the trade once again! The film is now certain to break the record of Dhoom 3 and could do so by the end of its 2nd week itself. But the record of PK is now in danger of being surpassed. At the end of 9 days, Bajrangi Bhaijaan leads PK by Rs 3.29 crore and this lead will neutralise the ‘New Year’ holiday advantage that PK got. The battle for the highest grosser of all time continues!

Update 27 July: Bajrangi Bhaijaan is on course to become the highest grosser of all time, as the film continues to stay ahead of PK at the end of Day 10 at the domestic box office. The Kabir Khan directed film is already Salman’s highest grosser both at the domestic, overseas and worldwide box office. It has also surpassed the lifetime worldwide gross of Chennai Express. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is now the 3rd highest worldwide grosser of all time behind Dhoom 3 and Chennai Express.

Update 29 July: At the end of Day 12, PK had collected Rs 256 crore and Bajrangi Bhaijaan has collected 259.15 crore. The difference is down to Rs 3.15 crore, with the Salman Khan starrer still leading. However, PK’s business got a major boost because of New Year and it wasn’t competing against any film in its 3rd week. Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be up against Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam, a film that is carrying incredible pre-release reports. The third weekend collections of Bajrangi Bhaijaan will decide if the film has a chance of surpassing PK.

Update 30 July: The gap has closed again. The difference between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is now down to Rs 1.2 crore. The Salman Khan starrer is now leading, but not by much. Drishyam releases in theatres tomorrow and Bajrangi Bhaijaan with about 50-55% fewer shows at multiplexes, would have to show huge growth over the weekend to have any chance of getting close to the lifetime total of PK. The growth on Saturday has to be similar to what the film showed on its last Saturday.

Update 1 August: The PK record is now out of reach for Bajrangi Bhaijaan. At the end of Day 15, the difference between the two films is Rs 8.99 crore. PK had already gone past the record of Dhoom 3 and showed incredible growth in its third weekend. In fact, the Sunday collections was more than Rs 11 crore. Bajrangi Bhaijaan will finish with net box office collections of around 320 – 325 crore.

  • @Yuvraj spot on. I have been noticing you for a while , and its you who is trying to unnecessarily create all these cheap shallow fights with Aamir fans. We have never said any rubbish things and we are appreciating it, but its you who is trying to degrade PK and rubbishing about this comparison. Listen my friend, this world is too big to understand the morality of so many things which are important than this shallow pond which has irrelevant arguments to waste time on. Chill with success of BB and kindly stop this arguments.

  • @ pk etc- i know that you are king aamir khan fan because your comments remind me of that person.
@ eric – if i wanna bash aamir i have fake id. but if i didnt like pk and i have some points for disliking that movie then what is your problem? we both have different mind different likes. if you don’t like anything in bajrangi bhaijaan please share with us. tell me a single comment where i abuse on aamir or any bad word for him. but i can show you many comments of some aamir fans who criticized me with bad words. tell me how many of you who really wants that bb cross d3 or pk.
only few who watch bajrangi bhaijaan with heart. sid original is one of them.

  • bhaijaan is the best of in the world god bless u for bajrangi bhaijaan.
300 crore club me jarur shamil hogi

  • I m a pakistani and sharukh’s fan.. B.B Is a wondering movie. It is one of the best movie of bollywood. Not chase pk’s total collection…..may be the movie will cross 300 cror. Good salman to bring such a lovely movie. This movie is a peice for both the countries.. Thnx bhai.

  • Awesome movie . Highlights love & affection of both countries . May this movie reach upto 1,000 Crores worldwide .

  • very nice story pk but very very nice story bajrangi bhaijaan movies this story very interested and emotional thank kabir khan and salman khan

  • @indicine and those who are saying that PK had more holidays than BB should learn this as well:

    1. BB had Eid on Saturday, partial holiday in some states on Monday.
PK only had Christmas on Day 7. Rest were all normal days.
Most partial holidays for PK began after Week 1 like New Year and New Year’s eve.

    2. There was an intense cold wave throughout North and East India which hindered PK collections.
BB had only Rains in Mumbai.

3.Due to the vandalism caused by Hindu Groups at various theatres, many people were afraid to go watch PK at theatres.
    Nothing of sort for BB.

    4. PK had competition from Ugly(Anurag Kashyap film) that got brilliant reviews from critics in the 2nd week(26th Dec onwards)
BB has competition only from 3rd week. Big films earn most in first 2 weeks only nowadays. 3rd week contributes 5-7% only to the total collections.

PK & BB both have had their fair share of equal holidays and competiton.
Indicine, as an unbiased website, I request you to read and post this and do not proclaim that PK had more holidays than BB.
Both were more or less equal as the collections suggest.

  • Bajrangi Bhaijaan 100 bar bi dekhkar mai Tang nhi Avo Ga yeh film hi Aisi Hai Aj Tak Mai Tadap Raha Tha Kab Dekho Ga Mai Is Film Ko {LOVE U SALAM BHAI}

  • Bajrangi bhaijaan is one of the biggest great movie in world it is broken my heart {wow Kay Movie Hai salam bhai}

  • salman bhai ….i love you bhai…….god bless u & family..bhai…sab record tor dega….ek no bhai

  • Don’t think about collection……we love salman ( bajarangi )…….the superstar of bollywood ……..plz entertain us as more and more possible…….

  • After having seen BB I can say that story wise BB was certainly better than PK, the difference is, Hirani knows how to craft witty scenes which stay with you long after you have left the theatre. BB was a lovely film as a whole but the scenes are coherent with the plot. It is hard to separate scenes from the plot.

And this is the true skill of Hirani. His scenes are both coherent with plot and can stand on their own, which is why he is such a repeat value juggernaut! Performance wise, Aamir in Pk and Salman is BB were both outstanding! Both the films had witty dialogues, a very feel-goodish narrative, terrific entertainment value and a need of the hour message!

While indicine believes extra holiday made the difference for PK commerically, I believe it is Hirani-Abhijat Joshi’s ability to craft scenes which can stand on their man make the difference!

Anyways I really wish BB crosses dhoom 3. It truly deserves to be highest grosser of the year!

Salman fans like @Navin @Tiger can continue bashing me, but Bajrangi Bhaijaan is literally the best Salman film of his career!

  • to be honest as you have stated , it looks very difficult that it will cross PK due to various factors ( holidays , less open weeks with Ajay’s movie due , Bahubali)
