PK vs Bajrangi Bhaijaan: Box Office Collection Comparison

Note: This article is updated everyday. Read the ‘Update’ section just above the table for daily updates.

Salman Khan’s latest release ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ has taken a historic opening at the box office. The first 4-day collections has ensured that the Kabir Khan directed film is almost certain to go past Salman’s previous highest grosser ‘KICK’ (233 crore).

All eyes are now on the Top 2 highest grossers of Indian Cinema. Both Aamir Khan starrers, Dhoom 3 and PK.

The current comparison is between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. In 4 days, PK had collected Rs 116.43 crore and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is way ahead with net box office collections of Rs 129.65 crores.

However, PK had no holidays in its first 4 days (except Sunday), but Bajrangi Bhaijaan had the advantage of Eid holiday on Saturday and Monday too was a holiday in some parts of the country as Eid celebrations continued.

PK, on the other hand, had plenty of holidays starting with Christmas (7th day of release) and New Year. The days in between were holidays for many schools and offices. PK also had the advantage of 3 open weeks at the box office, before the release of Tevar in Week 4. Bajrangi Bhaijaan has two open weeks, after which Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam and Ritesh Deshmukh’s Bangistan are scheduled to hit screens.

The multiplex ticket prices of both films were about the same, although at select premium multiplexes the tickets of Bajrangi Bhaijaan were more expensive. Bajrangi Bhaijaan has performed much better than PK at single-screens, so the all India average ticket price of the Salman starrer is lower.

The day-wise comparison between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be interesting to follow in the next few days. We will be updating this page everyday. Bookmark it and visit us again to find out if Bajrangi Bhaijaan can become the highest grosser of all time.

Update 22 July: Bajrangi Bhaijaan continues to lead PK at the end of Day 5. While the Salman starrer has collected Rs 151.05 crore in 5 days, the industry’s highest grosser had collected Rs 135.79 crore. In fact, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has beaten PK on each of its first 5 days at the box office.

Update 23 July: For the first time since its release, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has fallen short of the Wednesday collections of Aamir Khan’s PK. The Rajkumar Hirani directed film held on strongly on Wednesday, showed a small growth in business on Thursday and then had plenty of holidays (Christmas, Sunday, New Year) in Week 2. Those holidays could eventually be the difference, even though Bajrangi Bhaijaan still leads PK by around Rs 14 crore at the end of Day 6.

Update 24 July: The battle for the highest grosser of all time is now intensifying as there is hardly any difference between Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK at the end of Week 1. To Salman and Kabir Khan’s credit, PK enjoyed a national holiday for Christmas on Day 7 of its release. But factors aside, Bajrangi Bhaijaan was leading by Rs 15 crore at the end of 5 days, but now the difference is just Rs 1.76 crore. PK is also the film that showed better trends in its first week at the box office. Bajrangi Bhaijaan now needs a record breaking second weekend to have any chance of becoming the all time highest grosser.

PK vs Bajrangi Bhaijaan has also become the most viewed page on our website this year. The tremendous interest is because Salman has never delivered the highest grosser of all time after ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ and the last time he featured in a film directed by Kabir Khan (Ek Tha Tiger), it fell just 3 crore short of ‘3 Idiots’, which was coincidentally an Aamir Khan – Rajkumar Hirani film!

Update 25 July: The difference between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is down to just Rs 36 lakhs! After Day 8, PK still had one holiday (New Year), one open week before the release of ‘Tevar’ and showed better trends. So it’s probably safe to say now that PK will remain the highest grosser of all time and Bajrangi Bhaijaan would be looking at becoming only the second 300 crore grosser.

Update 26 July: Box office is unpredictable and how! Until yesterday, the trends were suggesting that Bajrangi Bhaijaan would fall behind the total of PK, but the Saturday collections of the Salman Khan starrer has shocked and surprised the trade once again! The film is now certain to break the record of Dhoom 3 and could do so by the end of its 2nd week itself. But the record of PK is now in danger of being surpassed. At the end of 9 days, Bajrangi Bhaijaan leads PK by Rs 3.29 crore and this lead will neutralise the ‘New Year’ holiday advantage that PK got. The battle for the highest grosser of all time continues!

Update 27 July: Bajrangi Bhaijaan is on course to become the highest grosser of all time, as the film continues to stay ahead of PK at the end of Day 10 at the domestic box office. The Kabir Khan directed film is already Salman’s highest grosser both at the domestic, overseas and worldwide box office. It has also surpassed the lifetime worldwide gross of Chennai Express. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is now the 3rd highest worldwide grosser of all time behind Dhoom 3 and Chennai Express.

Update 29 July: At the end of Day 12, PK had collected Rs 256 crore and Bajrangi Bhaijaan has collected 259.15 crore. The difference is down to Rs 3.15 crore, with the Salman Khan starrer still leading. However, PK’s business got a major boost because of New Year and it wasn’t competing against any film in its 3rd week. Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be up against Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam, a film that is carrying incredible pre-release reports. The third weekend collections of Bajrangi Bhaijaan will decide if the film has a chance of surpassing PK.

Update 30 July: The gap has closed again. The difference between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is now down to Rs 1.2 crore. The Salman Khan starrer is now leading, but not by much. Drishyam releases in theatres tomorrow and Bajrangi Bhaijaan with about 50-55% fewer shows at multiplexes, would have to show huge growth over the weekend to have any chance of getting close to the lifetime total of PK. The growth on Saturday has to be similar to what the film showed on its last Saturday.

Update 1 August: The PK record is now out of reach for Bajrangi Bhaijaan. At the end of Day 15, the difference between the two films is Rs 8.99 crore. PK had already gone past the record of Dhoom 3 and showed incredible growth in its third weekend. In fact, the Sunday collections was more than Rs 11 crore. Bajrangi Bhaijaan will finish with net box office collections of around 320 – 325 crore.

  • @ dilip- bajrangi is far better movie but due to lower ticket rates may be it felt short on pk. yes it will face two big films in third week while pk faced flop tevar in its fourth week. other benefits of pk you knows very well.

  • looking at the chart, one can see that BB is not trending as good as PK. Fall in weekdays collections is more in BB. So now we can say it won’t beat PK lifetime collections. But Dhoom3 collections will be beaten certainly and that is a very good result for BB

  • Indicine, please on the behalf of everyone i request you that please post an article regarding the records of Bajrangi Bhaijan and most importantly how much it shoult collect at BO to be declared an ATBB…Please

  • Its
    18.02, not 18.05.

Looking at the trend today, there will be a 15-17% fall from yesterday.
So, 15.5-16 crores on Day 7.

    Week 1 would be:
    Producer: 184.57
    Trade: 180.91(approx)

This means according to Producer figure, it will beat PK by 1 crore but not D3(188.89)

According to Trade, BB might fail to beat both PK (181.03) and D3(183.67) if it collects around 15.5 crores on Day 7.

  • @lejhandu khan, don’t you feel any shame of tingu who with out south remake, raju papa, dhoom brand couldn’t surpass even 100cr,ROFL.don’t you feel any shame as lallu couldn’t surpass a single 100cr with out masala genre/south remake/KING ‘S MADE YRF?????

While KING KHAN has HITS with even Anubhav/Farah,ROFL.which amoor/sallu can’t even dream to work with, that’s called REAL STARDOM.

  • I have a feeling that the coming weekend is going to be huge for BB.

I can see and feel a trend that this movie is going for some big numbers. Lot of people are talking about catching the movie this weekend.

When you hear and see people around talking about it and planning to watch it, you know it is going to be huge.

  • Brilliant film, awesome collection, love and respect for those who have had watched the film. Those who haven’t had a chance to see the film, please go and watch BB. It will teach us to be nice to each other and respect.

  • @ Aamir fans- lol your idol said he will be happy if bb will break pk record and you still degrading bb by saying it will not beat pk may be break d3.

  • Bajrangi bhaijaan is salmaan khan best movie ever……and the best acting of salman khan and harshali malhotra superrb movie

  • @yuvraj
    Nobody is degrading BB.
We are being realistic, that’s it. Faltu me baadalon pe chalne ka shuank nahi h Aamir fans ko. Appreciate krdia humne BB ko Salman ki best film keh ke khush rho.
We don’t care who is at top, Aamir or Salman, we love both.

Also, BB will face Drishyam and Bangistan. Hence, there is no chance for it to beat PK in domestic. Overseas toh bhul Hi jaaio PK Overseas is 290 Crores.

  • To be honest I m not a Salman khan but I must say this is a great movie…..the 2nd half is just extraordinary…this is the best film that salman has ever done and it is also the best direction of kabir khan

  • The stirring stardom of Salman Khan is as enigmatic as the superstar himself. He is perhaps the only star of his generation whose stardom is not subservient to the box-office success of his movies. Despite holding a string of box-office records – Highest Grosser of the Year (8 times), 3 Highest Grossers of one particular Year (Hum Saath Saath Saath Hain, Biwi No.1, and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999), 5 veritable blockbusters on the trot, among others – it is his abiding connect with the audience which has stood him in good stead over the last 25 years.
At present, his next release BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN is hot on the heels and is slated to become the first blockbuster of 2015. As you gear up to throng to cinema halls to watch this movie, we dispel 3 popular myths pertaining to the superstar.
    1) Salman Khan delivers Blockbusters only on Eid:
While it is true that since 2009, the festival of Eid has become synonymous with Salman Khan and all his movies released on this occasion have turned out to be massive blockbusters, people tend to forget two vital points. Before 2009, Eid was not a sought-after period for releasing big-ticket movies. It was only after Salman stormed the box-office with WANTED in 2009, that industry woke up to the box-office potential of Eid period. Before 2009, Diwali and Christmas were traditionally considered auspicious and conducive for the release of big movies from a long time.
It wouldn’t be erroneous to state that Salman made Eid the most sought-after and lucrative proportion for Bollywood. Hence this charge of Salman using Eid as a springboard for box-office success does not hold water.
Also, in recent years, READY and DABANGG 2 were not Eid releases and both were monumental hits. Before 2009, every hit of Salman Khan was a non-Eid release. From Maine Pyaar Kiya to Hum Aapke Hain, Hum Saath Saath Hain to Karan Arjun, No Entry to Partner – there are several such examples.
    2) Salman Khan hit a rough patch between 2000-2009 and his stardom dipped:
Ludicrous reasons are wheeled out by his critics to perpetuate this myth. The movies in which he made guest appearances are tagged as his movies. HELLO, SAAWARIYA, HEROES, BAABUL, SAAWAN, etc. are some of the examples. By the same logic, does one count DULHA MIL GAYA, HEY RAM, BHOOTNATH, SILSILAY, KRAZZY 4 , etc. as Shah Rukh’s movies?
It is amusing that naysayers discount superhits like
MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI, NO ENTRY , and PARTNER – all of which released between 2000 and 2009 – as these are multi-starrer movies. While the contribution to each and every member associated with the movie must be acknowledged, it is clear as daylight that Salman was the dominant star in those movies who pulled in the audience. The producer of NO ENTRY is still waiting for Salman’s approval and dates to start its sequel. The project has not taken off only because Salman is yet to allot the dates. While Anil Kapoor is a fine actor, he has been playing side-roles since 1999 and is dependent on the dominant star to pull through the movies. Same goes for Govinda whose heyday as superstar ended in 1999. Govinda has said in numerous interviews that he would always be grateful to Salman for offering him a film when no work was coming his way. If one look at Govinda’s movies from 2003 onwards, all of them have opened extremely poorly except PARTNER and BHAGAM BHAG. He no longer gets the lead roles.
Also, if we deploy the same rationale and yardstick, should we discount KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GHAM , DEVDAS, KAL HO NA HO, OM SHANTI OM, etc, from SRK’s oeuvre… and RANG DE BASANTI , 3 IDIOTS, DIL CHAHTA HAI , etc. from Aamir Khan ’s body… or PHIR HER PHERI, WELCOME ,
HEY BABY , SINGH IS KINNG , BHOOL BHULAIYA , etc. from
    Akshay Kumar ’s filmography?
People condone TERE NAAM, MAINE PYAAR KYUN KIYA, CHORI CHORI CHUPKE, WANTED, DULHAN HUM LE JAYENGE, and HAR DIL JO PYAR KAREGA as if they didn’t exist. These all movies were declared either hits or semi-hits by all trade experts alike.

  • Friends,Good always triumphs so a good in fact great movie BB should become all time highest grosser so pls pls pls all of you watch BB not just once but multiple times(it’s worth) in theatres.it’s the best movie I have ever watched. not opinion but appeal

  • No matter bb break pk record or cross 300 crore, but it showd what is humanity, brotherhood, love, peace etc…in brief the world is a house and we al r family bt living in different room..love u all.

  • pk etc. – what you idol said you never beleive- he cried after watching bajrangi but i dont think he cried after watching any of his film. what kind of troubles bajrangi facing do you think your pk can earn huge on that basis with lower ticket rate. i wanna ask you after end of bajrangi who is better in terms of footfalls?

  • I hope that the film bajhrangi bhaijan will cross the pk record and salman and karina works very good and the hole team of bajhrangi bhai God bless you

  • First week should end around 184-185cr as today should be around 15cr I believe. Bot bad going for it tosplit Aamirs biggest movies.

Second weekend needs to definitely be around 40-45cr mark to beat Dhoom 3 in week 3. Drishyam can still halt BBs progress at the plexes but mass centres should still favour BB just my opinion. If Collections hold on well in week 3 and 4 then PK could be reached but as of now we are looking at Bollywoods second entrant into the 300cr club. Whooooopi grrrr8 news

  • Once again the consistent hit machine of the last 3 decades Global Queens films are nowhere to be seen on such charts…!

  • As Joker Kunder rightly said our Sarkars films are like expensive fireworks- look great in first few days then the glam wares off n it starts to fizzle fade away rather quickly.

Queens films limp to the end of first week n then crawl their way through the second weekend before dying a slow death in second week weekdays…!

Thats power of Baadshah Rice Smuggler

  • I am sure that history will repeat again, this time again i think salman and kabir combo will fall short to break record of the same combo of aamir and raju. Example, ETT vs 3I and now BB vs PK. Because PK had too many advantage in its second week and 3I as well had the same advantage.

  • Bajrangi will collect more than 400 crore inshallah . this film is 1000 time better than pk because it is about nations brotherhood

  • PK was publicized by some of the social and political group which gave the film a better publicity. Many states declared PK as tax free. These helped the film to continue a better business. BB is a film which has been loved by all and remain in the heart even after leaving the cinema hall

  • BB is better than pK for sure but this is also true salman was overshadowed by harshaali n nawaz both in 2nd half

  • But it takes a lot of heart to let a lill girl n good actor overshadow a mega star which only bhaijaan can do not aamir who craves for only screen presence

  • @yuvraj
    You wish to compare footfalls?
    Hahahaahaa
    Done deal.
After the end of run of BB, go to BoxOfficeIndia and compare the footfalls.
You’ll get the answer on your face.
Don’t cry after that, I request you.

  • This movie deserved Christmas release, had I been Christmas release than sure it would have broken PK’s record by big margin. But nevertheless, its sure shot all to blockbuster and 300 Cr entry is definitely on cards.
