The dispute over the ticket prices of Aamir Khan’s PK has resulted in two leading single-screens banning the screening of the film. Maratha Mandir and Gaiety Galaxy won’t be screening the film on 19th.
Manoj Desai of Maratha Mandir said “I was not allowed to open the advance booking for PK and was asked to increase the ticket price from Rs 80 and 100 to Rs 150 and 250 for lower and upper stall respectively. I was given a condition that unless I increase the ticket price I won’t be given the film and hence with due respect to Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, I preferred shelving the film instead of taking undue advantage of my patrons, my public coming to my theatres by increasing the ticket rates. The discussion continued for two days with Mr. Vinay Choksi of VIP Enterprises who book my theatres, and he was not ready to give me the film if I did not agree to their terms of hiking the ticket rates. Hence, after an unsettled meeting last evening, I decided to shelve the film.”

“I give highest collections because of low ticket price; had I increased the ticket rate of DDLJ then it would not have run for 20 years. I know by not screening PK I will make loss in lakhs, but I am fine bearing the loss rather than bowing down unlike others who have agreed to their terms and conditions. If today I agree to hike my ticket price then tomorrow there will be someone else who will ask me to do the same, which I don’t favour at all. It’s high time that makers realize that they cannot force their films by positioning it as the best or good film, because if the movie gets misfired then it will land nowhere. And I have seen big films having faced such kind of situation. This is the first time ever that my good friend Aamir’s movie will not release in my theatres. But, with this an example will be set for other upcoming films” he added.
A representative of PK, confirmed the news ”Yes! PK will not be released in Maratha Mandir Cinema and Gaiety Galaxy – G7. They contribute highest collection only amongst the single screens and not overall. If the exhibitor is ready to let go business and few lakhs does not bother them, then we cannot stop them”

Why this hypocrisy..Continuously barking about others that they are blah blah,they are giving fudged figures, but I am a single honest person,my collections are not fudged,i never raised ticket prices and PK ticket price is not going to increase….Why fake perfectionist why you are so hypocrite…Now I must salute to SRK,SK,AKKI,HR ,AJAY,RK and many more because they may be bad actors,flop,not superstars,bad looks,aggressive but they are not hypocrite….

This single screens buy their own tickets and sell it in black. The audience ends up paying double the money anyways. It’s best that the money is streamlined to the makers as i have read. Increasing the ticket price a little will prevent tickets from being sold black as audience will never pay 4 times the ticket’s normal amount. I am with pk on this one, manoj desai is behaving like a sore loser.

I appreciate and importantly, SALUTE the owners of those two theatres…this atrocious behavior of money laundering practices of the distributors needs to be stopped…I got two things to say…
Before the release, i read a report which said PK satellite rights being sold for 85 crores (the highest) with a clause that it needs to cross 300 mark…now i can see why the producers and distributors are hell bent on increasing the price…guess the satellite cost will significantly reduce…before releasing a film, distributors and producers decide important aspects regarding the release of a film…for PK, its evident the price hike was given utmost importance…
Now i have always believed Amir to be a person who likes to take a stand for common people..His show Satyameva Jayate has been setting this example as well and i have appreciated and given my full support as well…Now Amir usually has a lot of saying in every aspect of his every film, and this film was no exception i believe…Plus, neither Hirani seems to be a person who wants to be in the race for record collections…so its just unsettling and to an extent, disturbing to see, specially these two to give in to these money laundering practices…yes, the producers and distributors take the final decisions, but this is a Amir-Hirani film, and these two, being nice persons they are, would not have liked to make this unfair to audience…In every interview, they have always stated that making audiences happy is of utmost important factor to them, and hence the driving force to give quality films…so this upsets me that these two agreed…moreover Amir, being the intellectual and social caretaker he is, i never expected him to have allowed this to happen…Dhoom 3 had IMAX…PK neither has IMAX, nor 3D (as far as i know, please correct me if i am wrong)…so keeping 900 maximum ticket price was already out of question…just to make a stupid new club and satisfy their agreement, they are harassing us in theatres…
Secondly, the theatre owners needs to be highly appreciated as this is their source of livelihood…they will have no problem is increasing the ticket price…after all its us, the audience who will be paying…Its only more profitable for these theatre owners if a price hike is possible, and most would jump at such an opportunity…who doesn’t want more money…but thankfully there are some who want money, but in total fairness….So thank you Sir’s for taking a stand for us…
NOTE: Black tickets are available when its almost housefull, and theatre owners take the last few tickets in black to get maximum profit…but PK has such high price tags that forget black, people are finding it difficult to watch this film in theatres…else, this kinda quality films will have audiences scratching for a ticket…the initial weekend will have no problem as there is no dearth of rich people in India but the majority is middle class…and this segment consist of a high percentage of repeat audience…Lets see if PK slash the price after the first week…this will be a very very smart move if it happens…and so am guessing if i will wait till the next week…
