Piku Day 1 (Friday) Box Office Collections

Piku has collected Rs 5.5 crore on Day 1, which is exactly what we predicted in #IndicineFBO. The film has done well at the box office, especially at metro cities and circuits like Mysore and West Bengal.

The big advantage for a film like ‘Piku’ is that the word-of-mouth is extra-ordinary, so the film has the potential to collect 60-70 crore or even more – which is what it requires to recover its high costs. A lot will also depend on how well next week’s release ‘Bombay Velvet’ does at the box office.

Critics too have praised the film. In fact, ‘Piku’ has received better reviews than a film like ‘Baby’, which was previously the most acclaimed movie of 2015. On our review scale, ‘Piku’ has scored 78 out of 10 (also read: Piku Critic Reviews), which is excellent. In comparison, Neeraj Pandey’s Baby scored 66 (Baby Critic reviews).

Saturday update: On Saturday morning, the film is significantly higher than Friday. At some centres, collections are almost double! Evening onwards, ‘Piku’ is likely to show even bigger growth in business, which should ensure collections in the range of 7-8 crore!

Piku Day 1 (Friday) Collections – Rs 5.5 crore

  • Piku review:

Boring and derivative: A mere vehicle to Deepika’s stardom . PIKU FAILS badly and how!!

The premise is correct but it applies to all old people. Old Bengali Uncles aren’t only the ones obsessed with their bowel movements, anyway, but to use it as a driving point to engine the whole film is nothing short of absurdity. This film, like Finding Fanny, is meant to install Deepika Padukone as the next IN thing from India to Hollywood.
The same modus operandi is also applied to the much uglier and older Priyanka Chopra. While Finding Fanny was as enjoyable as a Chemotherapy session, Piku pretends to be a light-hearted semi-comedy trying to sort out issues like love, obsession and ultimately loneliness. Deepika gets an author backed role as a Bengali girl living with her aged and cantankerous and bitching father, Bhaskor: over-hammed by Amitabh Bachchan. There is something grossly reptilian about Amitabh Bachchan, the so-called repartee between him and absolutely untalented Deepika actually drags the film to a level of utter boredom. Piku should have been played by an actress of enormous depth in her art. Deepika, unfortunately, barely skims the surface. Her casual dalliance with Jishu in front of father is unbelievable. This possibility may be alive in the limited and derivative imagination of the script-writers, but even boys wouldn’t call their girlfriends for a sexual escapade in front of their parents. Another unbelievable plotline is added to the already confused blabbering of the father-daughter duo: Irffan drops in without any coherence to the script. They decide to make a road journey from Delhi to Kolkata. Who in the right mind will dare to make such a journey through badlands of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar? Another fail. An illogical proposition to stretch the flimsy fantastical script to its limits. It will be unfair to reveal more. But boredom sets in very early as you watch this infantile, school-drama level film.
    Performances:
Bhaskor becomes a caricature of a Bengali man. He wears glasses that magnifies his eyes making him look like cartoons from sundry Comedy shows on Sunday TV. A joker. Deepika is simply unable to be honest with her character, however flawed it is. Plot holes, the size of Volcanoes, plague the film. The usually dependable is unable to showcase his craft. This film is a vehicle for Deepika Padukone. Her Advertisers and friends in the industry will make sure that totally corrupt film critics will praise the film sky high. Two penny Bengali critics are already going gaga over the film. Due to compromised critiques I expect the movie to make 5 to 6 crore opening.

I gave it ZERO out 5.

    Monumental mouse!!

  • @ indicine — your prediction for kklh went wrong cuz it collected only 75 lakhs acording to trade.

  • No doubt Deepika is a nuch bigger star than these youngistaan actors..even her niche films collect 5.5crs with not so popular music.

  • The reviews of Piku are excellent . Even @ Indicine has given 4.5 Stars to Piku which has been for very few movies . If i remember only 4 movies till now have got 4.5 Stars – Jodhaa Akbar, The Lunchbox, Baby and Piku . I think this movie will be successful . If Bombay Velvet flops than GIB and Piku will get benefit in the 3rd and 2nd week respectively . @ Nipun I think you need a reality check prior to Piku Baby had the Best reviews this year . If you have a doubt go and check IMDB the rating of Baby is 8.4 with 20,000 Votes . But i think Piku will get better reviews than Baby . @ Indicine I appreciate the way your predictions are becoming correct every week . In fact i don’t remember the last time your predictions went wrong . Keep up the good work . @ Indicine Please post the list of movies who have got 4.5 Stars from your Website ……………………..

  • @indicine: u got to be kidding me! man that’s bingo… and not 1 or 2 cases your every prediction seems to hit the bulls eye.

I want u to predict for BB, PRDP and Dilwale… I dont thing ull have to wait for the trailer. U say it will hit… bang on ..

  • Good News for Ranbir, Deepika and Imtiaz’s fans Tamasha will release on 27th Nov 2015 . Earlier it was reported that Tamasha will release in 2016 and Jagga Jasoos will release in 2015 . But now the dates have been exchanged Tamasha will release in 2015 and Jagga Jasoos will release on 3rd June 2016 i.e. Post IPL Period .

  • Indicine, I can’t find a link to your critic reviews pages on your home page;neither on a mobile device nor on laptop. I have to google those pages. Why is that? Please add a separate section of critic reviews on home page. Plus they appear in the old indicine page layout view(red-yellow-white). Hope you’ll correct those in the near future.

  • @thulli hv u lost ur mind?when did indicine say that piku needs 60-70cr to recover cost??they say it has potential to collect that much

  • Wow, finally ajinkya’s prediction came!!
I couldn’t see a single comment of him without having words like..’Flop,crap,disaster,bgrade………
I understand your illness dude, that you can’t say anything good of anybody…..
Anyway thanks ,i just love to read your comments!! hi..hi..

  • @saksham: I don’t comment here without checking the reality. Go ask indicine which one has the better rating on their metre between Baby or Badlapur! You will get your answer. IMDB ratings are not CRITICS RATINGS.

  • @amit singh Very good review. Well written. Nipun should learn how to write a review from you. His review is full of “This is bad, that is good, that is avg, i didnt like this,

  • @JS thanks mate!!.

My review is honest , unbiased and unpaid unlike Deepika’s relative’s so called flattering paid ones.

  • shame on all those who r bashing a gd guy like nipun for no reason.and he was correct that badlapur was the most critically acclaimed film of the year

  • @JS: No wonder being a bhojpuri you’re supporting a shit review where you wouldn’t find any mentions about cinematography. That review sounds more like a Hate comment towards DP than a genuine review!
