Shahid Kapoor’s Phata Poster Nikhla Hero has collected around 6.1 crore net on its first day at the box office. The film has fared poorly in two of the biggest circuits in India – Mumbai and Delhi – which has resulted in poor opening day business.
Released on approximately 1900 screens (India only), Phata Poster Nikhla Hero has failed to excite the urban youth due to which business was poor throughout the day in big cities. The film’s content (comedy, melodrama, emotions) has more appeal towards the family audience, who might come out to watch the film over the weekend.
The weekend business should be around the 20 crore mark, which is poor considering the fact that the film was carrying decent pre-release buzz.
In the long run, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero will continue to fare well in smaller centres and single screens, but multiplexes are likely to witness drops from Monday onwards. The film should finish with lifetime business of around 40-45 crore net.
