OK Jaanu has performed poorly on its opening day at the box office, collecting Rs 4.08 crore on Day 1. The film was affected by Deepika Padukone’s ‘xXx: Return Of Xander’ which released in the evening at multiplexes and also the continued strong performance of Aamir Khan’s Christmas release ‘Dangal’.
Even with low costs, the poor start gives the film little or no chance at the box office, unless it manages 50-60% growth on Saturday – which will be difficult because the word-of-mouth isn’t there for the big growth to come.
Anything less than 15 crore in the first weekend will seal the fate of ‘OK Jaanu’ in the first weekend itself, as that would mean the film could struggle to cross the 30 crore mark by the end of its run.
While the full release of ‘xXx: Return Of Xander’ will have an impact on business today, the bigger threat could still come from ‘Dangal’ in the fourth weekend. The 4th Sunday collections of Dangal could go higher than the 1st Sunday of Ok Jaanu, if the latter does not show enough growth over the weekend.
It’s a poor beginning for the year – both for the industry and IndicineFBO as our first prediction of 2017 (much like 2016’s Wazir) is inaccurate. We predicted 5.6 crore as the opening day business of Ok Jaanu and given the start in the morning, it did look like the film had a chance to finish somewhere in that range. Unfortunately the growth did not come. The difference between our prediction and the actual collection is 27%.

I really like Akshay Kumar and his good films (like Baby, Special 26, OMG).
I am saying this to only SRK haters that Raees Day1 prediction inspite of Clash is 20+
And Jolly LLB 2 inspite of solo release is predicted 15 cr. This is the stardom of SRK which he has earned in last 20 years.

Talking about Raees and Kaabil, Although I found Raees trailer better than both trailer of Kaabil, my gut feeling says Kaabil will be a better movie as the sympathy and emotional angle can work big time if it turn out a better movie. Raees doesn’t seem much interesting in terms of story, It looks like nothing more than a masala potboiler. Best of luck both, hope the clash will generate 250-300cr at boxoffice this January.
