Neerja has just completed a phenomenal weekend at the box office, collecting Rs 22 crore. It’s the second highest first weekend of the year, beating the 20 crore total of Kya Kool Hai Hum 3.
The film more than doubled its first day business on Sunday, which is a sign of extremely positive word-of-mouth at centres where it has released. The screen average of Neerja is also higher than Airlift, which is the biggest success of the year so far.
It’ll be interesting to see where the film goes today onwards. Ticket prices at multiplexes drop on Monday, but the occupancy at quite a few centres that we tracked was as good as Friday, if not better.
Neerja is a winner at the box office, the film is already a HIT and could go on match the verdict of Airlift. The marketing strategy was elaborate, but well-planned. The makers did spend a little more than the usual spend for films that rely on ‘word-of-mouth’, but with the film performing so well in its first weekend, Neerja will be profitable in its first week itself.

Even last year apart from 3 summer biggies all holly films performed poor to avg with record breaking star wars turning out to b a big flop in India.
Bollywood has given 42 100cr films so far while holly just enterd the 100cr club last year and has a mere 10-12 films even in 50r club…!!!

akki is a huge superstar. But even if he does one film in a year,it wont be highest grosser at this point of time. But if he reduces to two films per year & one of them could be highest grosser. But akki has to beat hrithik.in salman khan’s wikipedia it is quoted that filmfare commented that awards dont matter to salman khan & rajni.in 1997 zee cine award gave best actor to ak for sarfarosh & rangeela while filmfare gave to srk for dil to pagal hai. Thats why ak started avoiding awards. If filmfare is really important,then srk is many times better in acting than ak.but this is not truth.since srk won or will win more filmfare than amitabh & legendary dilip kumar,srk is to called better than these two.but this is not truth. Bravo Team Neerja!! Just could not hold my tears during the climax scene. Shabana Azmi rocks in the movie. Honestly speaking, Sonam is good and even excellent at times, but only in patches.. Having said that, she still betters her previous performances.
