Sonam Kapoor’s Neerja has been declared tax free in the state of Maharastra, after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis decided to give the film based on a real-life heroic story, tax exemption in the state.
Maharastra is one of the biggest states for film business in India and entertainment tax is also one of the highest in the country.
Sonam, who had earlier said “I just want people to watch the film. And with that intention, I feel Neerja is going to be tax-free soon” was elated with the government’s decision to make the film tax free.
She tweeted “A big Thank You to the Government of Maharashtra for making #Neerja tax free with immediate effect. Humbled”
A biopic based on the life of senior flight attendant Neerja Bhanot who sacrificed her life while saving passengers on board hijacked Pan Am flight 73,Neeraj has collected Rs 29.12 crore at the domestic box office in 5 days.
Best movie of the year so far.Sonam should get her first filmfare award for this movie.
Hope Azhar gets tax free status in Hyderabad…
Tax free in the biggest circuit is great news for makers and viewers.
That’s very good. In 3 consecutive months bollywood has got 3consecutive big hits which is a tremendous achievement.
I think 2016 will easily b thr highest grossing year in Bollywood history beating 2013s annual gross by 20-30%
What say @indicine???

Another big achievement for one of the best sleeper hit of these last years. Well done team Neerja !
will it make any difference…if anyone want to watch a movie then ticket price dosent really matter..
As I read this,I feel elated about the fact that neerja has got tax free status.Truly deserving. But somewhere, I feel sad about the fact that Airlift wasn’t met with the same response. It was declared tax free pretty late, and only in few states. Before haters start shouting, I’d like to clarify that I’ve nothing against Neerja, infact I’ve absolutely loved the film, and it totally deserves this. But I’m only voicing out my opinion that Airlift also deserved tax free status.Anyways, congratulations team NEERJA!YOU ABSOLUTELY DESERVE THIS!
very good.
umm hoping it to collect anywhere above 60cr.
verdict- superhit
Fake actress. Stop hyping Maharashtra it’s one of the backward state. Neerja is just hit. Not superhit
Bad movie

@Indicine
I think you should make an separate article on “Tax on Bollywood films”.
@DELL, what is wrong with you…??? Have some respect for her…She doesn’t go around and tells\ people that your a fake fan so why are you doing this….???
It is good that movie is becoming tax free, Airlift also became tax free in a state in last few days of its run…
Akshay and Sonam rocks
Why bajrangi bhaijaan missed by small margin to break PK lifetime record..
It is because drisyam released in its second week n also..only one day holiday was there during bajrangi bhaijaan
But no one noticed that..during PK release ..entertainment tax was less in various region ..therefore less money deducted from.it’s gross collection..
One month before the release of
bhajrangi bhaijaan time..entertainment tax was increased in specially in Maharashtra n delhi region..therefore more money deducted from bajrangi bhaijaan collection compared to PK collection..
Bajrangi bhaijaan..got tax free only in up …where entainment tax was more compared to PK release time..
Maharashtra government earns lots of money from entertainment tax..because it’s region of Bollywood..
But still that idiot government ministers
.whether it is bjp or congress.. Doesn’t try to miss a single chance to defame them..
Specially Khans
