Namestey London – Movie Review

Namestey London, produced and directed by Vipul Shah, is not like any ordinary romantic movie. This movie is about a spoilt British girl of Indian origin and her husband, a typical breed of Punjab. Can two individual possessing no common interest, strangers to each other?s world; spend the rest of their life together? Will the magic of love work on two such individuals?

This is not just the end. The movie is a complete entertainer. It?s a joy ride from the very first scene. It?s a package of fun mixed emotions in the right proportion. From generation gaps to racism to religion to love it deals with everything and in a most practical manner. It evokes feeling of patriotism at the imperative turns of the movie.

Jazz alias Jasmeet Singh, daughter of Indian parents, born and brought up in London, is obsessed with western culture. She is determined to marry Charles Brown, her classy British boy friend, and plays a cunning trick in getting married to a guy of her father?s choice.

Arjun (Akshay Kumar), a typical breed of Punjab falls in love with Jazz at first sight. His joy knows no bound when he marries the beautiful and stylish Jazz. When Jazz puts a clause for marrying him, he agrees and proudly says ?I?ll be the first guy in my entire clan to have suhaag raat in London?. The world crashes onto him when Jazz states clearly that this marriage meant nothing to her and she is determined to marry her classy British boyfriend. Arjun?s character, portrayed as a sensitive but strong and a determined lover wins everyone?s heart. His unconditional love for Katrina not just crushes his rival, but also appeals to every one of us.

Upen Patel as Imran Khan, is a Pakistani living in Britain. Like Jazz, he too has been born and brought up in London and is therefore out of touch with his roots. He has a British girlfriend and also gets into a live-in relationship with her, which pushes him away from his family.

The intrinsic message of ?Namastey London? is that true love means giving, rather than demanding. The movie?s protagonist Arjun is the embodiment of this.

The movie also gives a message that Indian culture or values are in no way inferior to the western ones. The engagement ceremony ? when Akshay gives it back to the arrogant Englishman for insulting India ? is commendable and makes you feel a Proud Indian.

Direction: This is the most accomplished work of Vipul Shah so far and has reached the hike of direction. Namestey London retains its eccentricity among all other Love stories with its perfect blend of romance, drama and humor. It?s not just a one-day stop of entertainment but rather makes you watch it again. Background score enhances the experience. Music by Himesh Reshammiya?s is excellent. You just can?t stop yourself from humming to the music.

Acting: Akshay Kumar: One of his finest performances so far, NAMASTEY LONDON marks the presence of the actor in a different role who was often dubbed as an action hero or a punster. This wonderful, strong and sensational performance by Akshay win?s over everyone?s heart.

Katrina is a surprise package. The actor astounds you with a convinced performance in NAMASTEY LONDON; she comes up with a vigorous performance yet again. She handles the intricate part with remarkable ease. The pretty young woman is improving in her acting skills with every movie.

Upen Patel is highly skilled and carries out his substantial role competently. Ritesh Deshmukh in his special appearance is wonderful and does justice to his appearance.

Rishi Kapoor is in terrific form as usual. Nina Wadia [Katrina?s mother] is unequaled. Javed Sheikh is proficient and gives a wonderful performance.Clyde Stenden [Katrina?s fianc?] is admirable.

Overall:
Positives: The blending of romance, drama and humor in right proportions makes the move indifferent from all others of the same genre. Akshay performance has no equivalent. Katrina with her perfect look as British cum Indian girl does justice to the role.

Negatives: The liberal usage of English Language at vital points, though there are sub-titles in Hindi to interpret the scene, curbs its prospects.

The movie is a complete family entertainer. With increasing fans for Akshay overseas, it will be a huge hit. Back home, this package has everything to entice the Indian audience. No doubt, this movie will fetch fortune.

Rating: ★★★½☆ (Don?t miss it)
