Most disappointing Bollywood films in the First Half of 2015

Tevar (January 2015): Superman Salman ka fan Arjun Kapoor started off the year for Bollywood with Tevar. It was a remake of a cult South Indian film and the director Amit Ravindernath Sharma tried to put his own stamp into Tevar but unfortunately, the film turned out to be too long and boring for the general audience. It wasn’t too bad a film, but the negativity for the genre, sealed the fate of Tevar in its first weekend itself.

Shamitabh (February 2015): An R Balki film starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush about a mute man who becomes a huge superstar with the help of someone else’s voice. Darn, the premise and concept of Shamitabh held so much promise, but sadly the film fell flat with its jargon of prolonged soliloquies. Again, it wasn’t a bad film but it suffered because of the weight of expectations attached to it.

Roy: Roy cannot be called a disappointing film because we hardly had any expectations from it. Pre-release there were murmurs in the inner circles about the quality of the film. However, it turned out to be even worse than we had expected. It was the worst snoozefest of a film Bollywood has made in a long long time. Nothing worked for Roy, except for Sooraj Dooba Hain, Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan and a stunningly beautiful Jacqueline Fernandez.

Mr. X: Emraan Hashmi’s bad patch continued with this Vikram Bhatt directed Sci-fii film. Mr X tried to evoke memories of the classic Mr. India by giving it a modern twist and the makers seemed subtly confident about the fate of the film. But unfortunately, it turned out to be a mess with some of the shoddiest visual effects work we have seen in the last few years.

Bombay Velvet: The biggest money loser and the biggest disaster of Hindi cinema of all time. Why would anyone in their right senses invest more than Rs 100 crore on a film like Bombay Velvet, directed by Anurag Kashyap, is beyond us. The burgeoning budget talk, and the delays had lowered our expectations but we didn’t think Kashyap could make an illogical, stupid film. Alas, Bombay Velvet turned out to be just that. It was the most non-Kashyapy Anurag Kashyap film when all we needed was the typical Anurag Kashyap flair to spruce things up!

Hamari Adhuri Kahani: Oh, what a disappointment. Mohit Suri who could do no wrong finally went wrong with this overtly melodramatic sappy excuse of a film. We expected a well acted, well rounded and entertaining film but it only turned out to be half-well acted and not at all entertaining unless Vidya Balan’s stream of tears from her eyes is your definition of entertainment. The narration was sloppy and couldn’t do anything to raise the quality of Hamari Adhuri Kahani, even though the basic premise of the film was a truly promising one. Both Emraan and Vidya deserved a better film, considering their acting talent!

  • @Gabbar AKA Gobar, less than 8 hits? Lol. Your 60 Cr club star started his career with disaster movie and followed with few more disasters and have his first hit after 5 or 6 disasters and few flops. Lol. HR is far ahead of your greedy gobar actor who cant dance as good as hrithik, neither he can act as good as hrithik. Isn’t akki a papa’s boy? How was he born then? Everyone is papa’s boy, so your statement doesnt make any sense. HR is class actor and does class movie and 3rd biggest crowdpuller worldwide only behind srk and aamir. While your 60 cr club star is competing with varun and Sid. LoL.
