Most disappointing Bollywood films in the First Half of 2015

Tevar (January 2015): Superman Salman ka fan Arjun Kapoor started off the year for Bollywood with Tevar. It was a remake of a cult South Indian film and the director Amit Ravindernath Sharma tried to put his own stamp into Tevar but unfortunately, the film turned out to be too long and boring for the general audience. It wasn’t too bad a film, but the negativity for the genre, sealed the fate of Tevar in its first weekend itself.

Shamitabh (February 2015): An R Balki film starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush about a mute man who becomes a huge superstar with the help of someone else’s voice. Darn, the premise and concept of Shamitabh held so much promise, but sadly the film fell flat with its jargon of prolonged soliloquies. Again, it wasn’t a bad film but it suffered because of the weight of expectations attached to it.

Roy: Roy cannot be called a disappointing film because we hardly had any expectations from it. Pre-release there were murmurs in the inner circles about the quality of the film. However, it turned out to be even worse than we had expected. It was the worst snoozefest of a film Bollywood has made in a long long time. Nothing worked for Roy, except for Sooraj Dooba Hain, Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan and a stunningly beautiful Jacqueline Fernandez.

Mr. X: Emraan Hashmi’s bad patch continued with this Vikram Bhatt directed Sci-fii film. Mr X tried to evoke memories of the classic Mr. India by giving it a modern twist and the makers seemed subtly confident about the fate of the film. But unfortunately, it turned out to be a mess with some of the shoddiest visual effects work we have seen in the last few years.

Bombay Velvet: The biggest money loser and the biggest disaster of Hindi cinema of all time. Why would anyone in their right senses invest more than Rs 100 crore on a film like Bombay Velvet, directed by Anurag Kashyap, is beyond us. The burgeoning budget talk, and the delays had lowered our expectations but we didn’t think Kashyap could make an illogical, stupid film. Alas, Bombay Velvet turned out to be just that. It was the most non-Kashyapy Anurag Kashyap film when all we needed was the typical Anurag Kashyap flair to spruce things up!

Hamari Adhuri Kahani: Oh, what a disappointment. Mohit Suri who could do no wrong finally went wrong with this overtly melodramatic sappy excuse of a film. We expected a well acted, well rounded and entertaining film but it only turned out to be half-well acted and not at all entertaining unless Vidya Balan’s stream of tears from her eyes is your definition of entertainment. The narration was sloppy and couldn’t do anything to raise the quality of Hamari Adhuri Kahani, even though the basic premise of the film was a truly promising one. Both Emraan and Vidya deserved a better film, considering their acting talent!

As with every year, 2015 has had its share of damp squibs. If you have watched any of these films, tell us which Hindi film from the first half of 2015 disappointed you the most.

When you’re at it, also let us know what was the worst film of the year so far according to you! Do note that there a difference between ‘Disappointing’ (meaning big films that were expected to be good) and ‘Worst’ (Unwatchable). The poll below is about the ‘Worst’ film in the first half of 2015.

    So The ßest – Baby/TWMR / Nh10 .

    Worst – Mr.X

  • Hamari Adhuri Kahani was a nice watch for me,i quite enjoyed it..just because it was a bit cliched,I don;t think it deserved bashing like this!!

Have’nt seen Roy,Bombay velvet,MrX so can’t say..Friend watched or rather I should say slept while watching Roy!!

Watched Tevar on laptop fast forwarding it,finishing 2hr20min film in 1hr.It was a dull affair.

  • Tevar, or Ek Paheli wins it for me.

At least, they tried something with Bombay Velvet, which, unfortunately, went horribly wrong, probably the biggest disappointment considering the hype.

    For me,

    Worst film – Tevar/Ek Paheli

    Biggest disappointment – Bombay Velvet

  • Expectations leads to disappointments
To me biggest disappointment was badlapur
Though the movie had brilliant performance from its star cast
but still it promised to be a revenge thriller
and in the end it turned out to be a slow drama.
I didn’t expected much from bombay velvet .didn’t saw it , simply because I thought everyone will vote for it. I also did the same.
But honestly I didn’t expected much from any of the movie mentioned except hak and Mr X

  • Yes DDD was also big disappointmen
Expected something like ZNMD but in the end it disappointed
To me it was a boring and lengthy affair
    @indicine include it

  • @indicine …according to u worst films are boxoffice under performer? Even films like Andaz Apna Apna failed at boxoffice but doesn not it means that its a worst film. HAK & Shamitabh was a nicest film of 2015.And Indicine ..its really shame on u guys who judge films according to boxoffice performance !

  • @Nipun first watch the movie before you go to your pseudo critcs like masand and chopra who don’t like masala films and have formed hatred to akshay. bcoz akki don’t attend their interviews and laugh with their stupid jokes like karan, ranbir and ddd team. I have seen many srk, , salman and aamir fans who liked gabbar. you have developed a blind faith in them, they are not experts if they were they would’ve been film makers. I will rather trust someone like shaurap gupta who doesn’t lick someone’s ass to be on good times with them like masand. indicine please post.

  • Gabbar n tevar both are pathetic ! Other movies are also bad but at least they try something different !
So far This year is pathetic one for movie-goers!
    Hope upcoming movies won’t disappoints

  • Non of these I watched in this year is satisfactory besides TWMR.because TWMR not only a seems like A CLASSIC one but also it has great entertaining film.I have watched only these film in theatre.and don’t know about which us the worst I think till now it should be tevar or MSG, I can guess and also think so.and soon d grade bhojpuri bhaijaan will be added to this disappointed or debacle list.

    Baby
    Badlapur
    TWMR

and this year is the surprising year for me that I have watched more Hollywood movies than Bollywood at theatres.really Bollywood is degrading day by day.

Next movies I planned to watch at thetare are

    Brothers
    Welcome 2

    DILWALE

and if any movies I found best then surely watch at theatre.and statutory warning for all audiences not to watch any film especially non actor salman’s film in EID/DEEWALI,if you want your IQ and intellectuality will remain higher as always.

  • Havnt watch BV Alone Msg ek paheli leela n mr x
But those i have watched i must say roy was the dissappointing one
Shamitabh on the hand i liked very much..i wonder why it flopped..its concept was novel.all acted very well..akshara too deserves a thumbs upp.. n dhanush n big b dont need any kind of appreciation
Tevar was poor.. but yeah the most pathetic movie i will say is hawaizaad.. i dont know what the director was thinking while making this film…from cinematography to story to acting everything gone wrong foh this one…it could have been a masterpiece

  • Bombay Velvet
@indicine if VARUNS BADLAPUR and Abcd2 can raise his rankings high @ box office probably to 8 or 9 and Besharam Roy and Bombay velvet are huge dissappoinment esp BV(worst hindi cinema history) than that means without even d release of BROTHERS Akshays GIB and BABY shd easily swift Akki above Rhanbir according toYOUR monthly actors ranking which I don’t concur much wit cos I already know d top 6 Rhanbir is still far behind until d veterans retires but for d sake of many idolized fans with d rankings I think already Akki is supposed to b have dusted Rhanbir already with Drishyaam too If well received with profits n applauds she take Ranbir to 7th(his ideal place) and He ranbir shd now see VARUN SID SHAHID and ofcourse RANVEER as REAL big THREATS!!
Really media created star but no doubts still have a very promising future with good choice of scripts and less overconfidence

  • Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra should co-direct all movies, only then will I rate films 5 stars without generosity..

If one of them directs, it’s a generous 4 stars.

P.S. Even though I ‘generously’ clapped while watching Gabbar and cried on Majeev Rasand’s shoulder during the hospital scene, I won’t include it in my Top 5, because I hate Akshay Kumar. He does 4 films when my favourite actor finished one schedule of Mohenjo Daro.

  • By the way, my childhood idol was critic Khalid Mohammed.. but I stopped reading his reviews after watching Fiza.

  • Haha look at Navin uncle,Baby and Gabbar are worst for this buddha uncle. Well one can expect this as he likes C grade films jai ho,bodyguard, ready and keeps on dancing on dhinka chika all day long.

    Typical tapori buddha!

  • @Nipun, Gabbar worse than BV, REALLY??? Gabbar better than all HR movie expect KHNP,KMG and ZNMD. We also can remind you Nong bong, manipulated K3, Angrypath, Kite kiss barbara, Mosquitoes spray and many more. @Nipun, take your critics beside and watch lootera and wait for sequal. Rofl your opinion every time against Salman and Akki movie others one good for you. I already come to comment here….!!!

  • Have’nt seen DDD but one thing i can definitely deduce from its b.o performance is that it is one of the most overrated and preachy films of the year, the way some celebs were going crazy for it..

  • Bombay Velvet leading the poll has’nt come as a surprise for me as it has for some people,Ranbir is the most popular star as far as this list is concerned, also it was the biggest disaster..most people have’nt watched many of these films,so obviously they will turn up to vote for BV..they will definitely not vote for less popular films like khamoshiyaan, alone etc.

  • Mr x , shamitabh, hamari adhuri kahani are not bad films, others deserve to be in list but they forgot to add dil dhakne do.in my opinion, it was most boring film while hak and Mr x were entertaining. Indicine, u do not know meaning of entertainment

  • I must say only BHOJPURIS and SEMIBHOJPURIS like @ultron and @myamar can give crappy replies for me comment.

It makes me LOL when I see these bhojpurians, who are habituated with watching Ready,Bodyguard, dabbang 2 , calling Krrish 3 the worst film. Lol.

    @Babaji:
I didn’t know much about how to review a film during Jai Ho time. Jai Ho would have got the same generous 2 from me, had it released today.

  • @babaji, Bodyguard and ready are c grade movie but they are Blockbuster, one of them Highest grosser of year.
Jai ho is c grade but still Semi-hit.
Baby is excellent movie which i already watch 6 time. Best movie of 2015 till date is BABY
Gabbar is good movie which i already watch 3 time because it entertain me. @babaji, go back reply to your @nipun.

  • Bombay Velvet is topping the poll thanks to Insecurity, lack of knowledge and hypocrisy of people.

  • @Myamar Nangu:
Guzzarish and Agneepath were good films. Kites and Krrish 3 was an experiment and was fairly well-appriciated films. Bang Bang is the only Let down among Hrithikfilms. BTW, talking about films quality doesn’t suit you.

  • @Nipun, for me Jai ho better than manipulated K3. Bodyguard better than all jadoo boy movie expect 7 movie.
