Mirzya, MS Dhoni, Pink: Box Office Collection Report

‘Mirzya‘ has opened very poorly at the box office on Friday. The all-India average occupancy for the morning and noon shows was less than 10%. Due to the dull trailer and lack of awareness amongst the audience, it was a foregone conclusion that ‘Mirzya’ would open poorly, but there was hope that the film would garner good reviews. Unfortunately, even that hasn’t happened.

Why did Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan opt for a film like ‘Mirzya’ for his debut? The audience wants happier films that come with some entertainment value attached, but ‘Mirzya’ looked boring from the trailer and the audience simply weren’t interested. It seems to be a case of the actor signing the film looking only at the director’s track record - Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra after a classic like ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’.

‘Mirzya’ looks certain to be a big disaster and even recovering the marketing costs from domestic theatrical business could prove to be difficult, if the film does not show big growth on Saturday and Sunday.

‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story‘ opened very well last weekend, but could not sustain over the weekdays. The drops were big and if the film doesn’t hold over the weekend, it could even struggle to achieve ‘hit’ status. ‘MS Dhoni’ needs around 110 crore to attain hit status.

‘Pink‘ was excellent in its third week too and has sustained inspite of a big film like ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ releasing in theatres. The film is looking at a 67 crore finish, which would give it ‘super hit’ status.
